Chiefs listed as favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champs

Patrick Mahomes will be seeking a third Super Bowl ring for the Chiefs next season.

Travis Kelce is going to have a difficult time convincing people that the Chiefs were doubted entering the 2023-24 season.

FanDuel Sportsbook opened Kansas City as the +600 ‘chalk’ to win back-to-back Super Bowls when they released their 2024 Super Bowl odds earlier this week. The Chiefs, despite Kelce’s inaccurate interpretation that no one believed in them, had the third-shortest preseason odds (10-1) to win the 2023 title at WynnBET.

There are four other teams priced inside of 10-1 in the 2024 Super Bowl market, including the Bills (+850), Eagles (+900), Bengals (+900) and 49ers (+900). Philadelphia and Kansas City were the top seeds in the NFL this past season, so it is not surprising to see them headlining next year’s futures market.

Kansas City has now won a pair of Super Bowls in its five seasons with quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the helm. He took home Super Bowl MVP honors in the win over the Eagles, and he should have Kelce back as his top target this coming season.

The Eagles could lose free agents Fletcher Cox and Miles Sanders in the offseason, but they have enough cap space to bring them back. They also have two first-round picks to fill any holes, and head coach Nick Sirianni has established himself as one of the best coaches in the league.

Buffalo and San Francisco both failed to come through in the playoffs, but that does not discredit them heading into next season. The Bills should have a healthy Von Miller back from the season-ending injury that he suffered on Thanksgiving, while Tre’Davious White should be able to put his ACL injury in the rearview mirror.

They also have quarterback Josh Allen, who is tied with Mahomes and Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow for the shortest MVP odds for next season at +700. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (+900), Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (+1200) and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (+1300) are some of the other top contenders in the market.

San Francisco will have to answer some quarterback questions, as it used Trey Lance, Jimmy Garoppolo and Brock Purdy this season. Purdy stepped up with an incredible run during his rookie season, but he is unlikely to be the starter next year. Regardless, the 49ers will still have Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle, giving them a plethora of weapons to go along with the NFL’s best defense from 2022.

Some of the mid-level contenders in the futures market include the Cowboys (15-1), Ravens (16-1), Chargers (20-1), Packers (25-1), Jaguars (25-1), Lions (25-1) and Jets (25-1). The Cardinals (180-1), Colts (180-1) and Texans (200-1) currently have the longest odds at FanDuel.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is the -150 favorite to be the first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, while Ohio State’s CJ Stroud is +300.
