Charlotte star guard LaMelo Ball broke his right ankle in the third quarter of last night’s home win over the Detroit Pistons, the team announced after the game.
The 21-year-old Ball has sprained his left ankle three times this year, limiting him to 36 games. He’s been outstanding when healthy, though, averaging career-highs in both scoring (23.3 points per game) and assists (8.4 APG). The third-year point guard is also averaging 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
In only 21 minutes last night, Ball buried 6-of-7 launches from 3-point land and finished with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Charlotte (20-43 straight up, 28-32-3 against the spread) won its fifth straight game both SU and ATS with last night’s 117-106 win over Detroit as a seven-point home favorite. However, the Hornets are in 14th place in the Eastern Conference, 9.5 games back of Washington for the final spot in the play-in tournament.
Therefore, Charlotte isn’t going to rush Ball back and it’s more than fair to assume he’s done for the season.
