The landscape of the NFL has changed drastically in the last month — including moves by Tom Brady, Philip Rivers and a change to the postseason format.
There are still moves to be made, though, including the NFL Draft later this month. Several high-profile quarterbacks are expected to be with new teams in 2020, which FanDuel has addressed with updated odds.
Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is on the market after he was cut in March. The Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year deal.
Newton could replace Rivers in Los Angeles. The Chargers are listed as +200 ‘chalk’ to sign Newton. Miami (+300) and Jacksonville (+350) are also in the mix. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and was the NFL MVP in 2015.
Andy Dalton is scheduled to make $17.7 million in Cincinnati this season. He is likely on the trading block, though, as the Bengals are expected to take Joe Burrow in the NFL Draft.
Dalton led Cincinnati to the playoffs in each of his first five seasons. He holds franchise records for completions (2,757) and touchdown passes (204). The Bengals are +230 to keep him around in 2020, which would most likely be as a backup to Burrow.
Jacksonville is a +175 ‘chalk’ to snag Dalton. The Bengals could cut ties with Dalton, as teams are unlikely to make a trade deal for him. Los Angeles (+300) is another possibility, as the Chargers look for Rivers’ replacement.
Jameis Winston might be the most sought-after quarterback left on the market. He was second in the NFL in touchdown passes in 2019, but he also threw a league-high 30 interceptions.
Jacksonville is yet again at the forefront of the conversation. The Jaguars are +220 ‘chalk’ to land Winston, while Miami follows at +370. The Saints (+430) could use Winston as a backup and potential successor to Drew Brees.
The Jaguars sent Nick Foles to Chicago in March, which puts Gardner Minshew in line to take over as the starter. There is clearly some uncertainty, though, as Jacksonville is seemingly in the conversation for all three quarterbacks listed above.
New England is going to be without Brady for the first time in 20 years. It seems fairly certain that the Patriots are going to roll with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham, as he is listed at -350 to be the starter in Week 1 of 2020.
Brian Hoyer will try to beat out Stidham for the starting job, but he is +300 to do so. Newton (+850), Dalton (+1200) and Winston (+1300) are all long shots to start the Patriots’ opener.
