Bookmaker posts props on John Beilein’s next job

John Beilein’s time in Cleveland did not go as he had planned.

Beilein resigned as the Cavaliers’ head coach on Wednesday after just a nine-month tenure. He was previously the long-time collegiate head coach at Michigan.

“I have given my all to this organization, but after much reflection, I have decided that it is best that I step back and resign from my position as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers and assist the organization in a different capacity,” Beilein said in a statement.

Cleveland got off to a 14-40 start to the season under Beilein, which was second-worst in the NBA to Golden State (12-43). Beilein became just the third first-year NBA head coach in the past 30 years to not make it through his first season.

Offshore sportsbook BookMaker has posted a prop for Beilein’s next job. The 67-year-old coach was at Michigan from 2007-2019 and was widely regarded as one of the best coaches in college basketball.

The prop for Beilein’s next destination has a deadline of June 6. If he has not taken a new job or announced retirement, that is when it will be graded. The prop is scheduled to lock on March 20.

BookMaker is not expecting Beilein to take a new job, as he is a -291 ‘chalk’ to not be a head coach on June 6.

Texas continues to underwhelm with Shaka Smart at the helm, so the Longhorns are +963 to hire Beilein. Florida’s outlook under Mike White is still hanging in the balance, but the Gators are +1667 to grab Beilein by the prop deadline.

The other college that is listed as an option for the prop is Indiana, which is 30/1. The Hoosiers are currently on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament under Archie Miller.

Beilein’s NBA experiment is not expected to continue, as he is 50/1 to take another NBA job by this summer. Retirement is always a possibility and is listed at +795. He is +288 to be a coach at any job other than the ones listed.
