A patron of the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas risked $100,000 on the Milwaukee Bucks to win their first-round series against the Detroit Pistons.
Whenever the Bucks close out the series, he or she will collect a measly $500.
While it may seem ridiculous to you or I to risk six figures on a 200-1 favorite, one bettor apparently viewed it as a free $500, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report.
“Basically, he stole 500 bucks from us,” Westgate sportsbook director John Murray said, according to the Review-Journal. “If Giannis gets hurt or something, it could’ve been dicey.
“I think the guy just saw an opportunity to put 500 bucks in his pocket and had the bankroll to do it.”
The Bucks led the Pistons, three games to zero, heading into Game 4 on Monday night. Milwaukee was a 12.5-point favorite to close out the series sweep about two hours before tipoff.
It’s usually hard to find value in huge NBA playoff series favorites. If Milwaukee and Detroit played a best-of-seven series 200 times, would the Bucks win all 200 series?
Perhaps the bettor was onto something, though. The Bucks won the first three games by 16, 21 and 35 points, respectively.
While I bet nothing at all on the Bucks to win the series, this individual likely will cash a nice $500 return without breaking much of a sweat.
As the saying goes, sometimes it takes money to make money.
