BetOnline lists the Knicks as favorites to land D-Mitchell

BetOnline has installed the New York Knicks as favorites to trade for Donovan Mitchell.

The Utah Jazz originally shut down trade rumors surrounding All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, but they are now willing to listen to trade scenarios, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Tuesday.

Utah recently traded big man Rudy Gobert to Minnesota in a blockbuster deal, getting Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverly, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler and four future first-round picks back in return. The Jazz ultimately acquired six first-round picks in a 24-hour span.

The asking price for Mitchell would likely be even steeper, but the Jazz are reportedly at least open to the idea at this point.

“Change is inevitable in the NBA,” Jazz general manager Justin Zanik said in a press conference on Saturday. “…Things evolve in the NBA, so I couldn’t sit here and say anybody is untouchable. We’re trying to build a championship team, but there’s no intent [to trade Mitchell], at all.”

Mitchell has averaged 23.9 points and 4.5 assists during his five-year tenure with Utah, earning All-Star honors in each of the past three seasons. He has four years and $134.9 million remaining on the max contract extension that he signed during the 2020 offseason. His final season is a player option for $37.1 million.

With the reports of Utah being open to a Mitchell trade coming out this week, offshore sportsbook BetOnline has released odds for potential landing spots. The Knicks are listed as the -105 favorites to acquire Mitchell if he is traded—all wagers would push if he is not dealt.

New York has plenty of first-round picks to include in a trade package, but it would also need to offer several of its young stars. Some experts have speculated that it could take RJ Barrett to make the deal attractive enough to Utah.

The only other team that would appear to be seriously in the conversation is Miami, which has the second-shortest odds (+400) to snag Mitchell. Miami has limited draft picks available, but it has players such as Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson. Those two guys likely will not be enough to land Kevin Durant in another potential trade, but they could be a strong starting point in a Mitchell trade.

Boston and Brooklyn are both listed at +700 to trade for Mitchell, while the Lakers and Warriors are both +900. The Nets are expected to get a large haul once Durant is traded, which could be enough to interest Utah in a deal.

The other teams listed in the Mitchell prop market at BetOnline are the Kings (10-1), Raptors (10-1), Cavaliers (12-1), Hornets (14-1) and Pelicans (14-1).
