Baylor is a +290 ‘chalk’ at DraftKings

MaCio Teague and the Bears are favorites to win the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

No. 2 Baylor is now a slight favorite over No. 1 Gonzaga in the college basketball futures betting market.

The Bears are 17-0 and have been playing a much tougher conference slate than the Bulldogs, who are rolling through the West Coast Conference. DraftKings has Baylor listed at +290 to win the title, while Gonzaga is +310.

There is a big gap between the top two teams and the field, as Villanova (9/1) and Michigan (10/1) have the next-shortest odds. Baylor is -250 to win the Big 12 Conference Tournament.

The Bears and Bulldogs are both locks to be No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament at -10000. DraftKings has Baylor at +200 to finish the regular season with an undefeated record. Its next four games are currently postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the program.

With Baylor and Gonzaga expected to occupy two of the top seeds in March, there are a host of teams vying for the other two spots. Michigan is listed at -200 to snag one of them—the Wolverines are at the top of the Big Ten with an 8-1 record in conference play.

Ohio State (+125), Alabama (+200), Villanova (+200) and Illinois (+225) are all candidates for the other No. 1 seeds as well. The Crimson Tide are a +200 ‘chalk’ to win the SEC Tournament, while Villanova is a -182 favorite to win the Big East tourney.

Baylor and Gonzaga are both listed as heavy -305 favorites to make the Final Four. Villanova (+100) and Michigan (+170) have the next-best odds to be one of the last four teams standing in March. DraftKings’ Final Four market does not have takeback prices, so the numbers are certainly inflated with a big hold.

BetMGM has seen Gonzaga move from 8/1 to 3/1 to win the title. Illinois opened at 80/1 and has dipped to 20/1, while Michigan has gone from 40/1 to 10/1.

“Gonzaga is the current betting favorite and has received the most support from bettors thus far to win the NCAA Tournament,” BetMGM’s Seamus Magee told BetQL. “Liability on Illinois, Michigan and Tennessee to win…Luka Garza is a clear favorite at -1000 to win the Wooden Award.”

Tennessee is currently priced at 30/1 to win the title at DraftKings.
