Denver vs. Oakland
Game Total: 42.5

The Broncos remain one of those teams that looks great statistically, but doesn’t dominate the final score. You can’t argue with Denver’s numbers this year, the #1 ranked defense in the NFL along with a Top 10 offense led by a running game that is positively explosive, regardless of who gets the carries. Yet Denver’s last ATS victory came back on opening day against the Chiefs – Mike Shanahan’s club hasn’t covered a single pointspread since. We saw this same trend out of the Broncos last year – great statistical numbers that didn’t reflect themselves in the final score. In fact, the Broncos have only five ATS pointspread covers in their last 16 games. The constant? QB Jake Plummer, who single handedly cost them the cover last week with an ill-fated off the back foot throw into the end zone, returned 101 yards for a 14 point swing against Carolina. But the Raiders aren’t a much more attractive option. Since taking over as the starting QB two games ago, Kerry Collins has a 1:6 TD:INT ratio, consistently making poor throws into coverage. Facing the Broncos top rated CB tandem of Champ Bailey and Lenny Walls isn’t likely to help Collins from committing those costly turnovers. Oakland has not been able to run the football either. But the Raiders defense was embarrassed in their loss at Indy last week – I’d expect them to step up here, making the Under an attractive play between a pair of teams that are stronger defensively than offensively.

Recommendation: Under
