Civil War in Iraq?

Not really interested in whether you supported the war before, or even now. Nor who you "blame" for the current situation. More interested in whether people believe there is a Civil War right now in Iraq and if not, are we headed there.

Of course there's a civil war going on in Iraq right now. O'Reilly just reported that 3438 Iraqis were killed last month(July). Iraqis killing other Iraqis...that is the definition of a civil war.

By that definition there is a civil war going on in just about every country in the world. There were 18,000 murders in the US last year, is there a civil war going on in the US? If the Bloods are killing the Crips in LA does that mean there is a civil war in the US?

Iraq is having a large amount of sectarian terrorism, violence and murders but I think for it to be a civil war by the historical context of that term, there would have to be a more organized factional effort to try and overthrow the new government. From what I have seen, the effort appears to be just disorganized terrorism and score-settling between rival sects of Islam. I think a true civil war is possible if the US leaves before the new government, which has been fully-functional for only less than a year, has the strength to stand on its own.

I dont know if its Civil War yet, would say no. But getting real real close. At this point I dont know if it would even be necessarily bad.

A certain amount of score-settling and blood-letting is almost inevitable when a totalitarian regime is deposed. Especially one that had been in control so long. The end of the Colonial Era in Africa is a classic example of this.
