Honest question about dinner checks

Iv'e been a shut in for most my 39yr life but have made friends lately, still i have fears of going out to dinner with couples due to the fact i dont know how to handle the check....

If i say to a new friend " hey do you and your wife want to go to dinner with me and my wife" does that mean i have to pick up the check?

Lets say the answer is no, what happens when the check shows up and it's $100 do we just split it and then split the tip?

Or do we add up what we eat and drank and split it that way including 15% tip?

by your standards, maybe so, but at least i wasn't "shut in for most my 39yr life", and i already had the answers to the questions you ask before i left home at 17.

bottom line, you're a cheapskate concerning yourself with this question. if you invite someone out to dinner, you carry the freight, period. and don't stare at his wife, or you may get more than you bargained for ...

(usually, a friend will offer to get the tip for you when you pay. naturally, you tell him ... "by all means")

StarnetGypsy.... that was a very informative responce i thank you......it will help me get over the fear i had though you were wrong about me being cheap but thats fine as the question was answered.....i will post another one of "my lifes questons" in a day or so and hope for a similiar responce.

You ask - you pay. If you're splitting it, don't be a cheap prick, pay 50% unless you have a Pepsi and they have filet mignon and lobster.

ask for the check, wait 2 minutes, then get up and go to the mens room.

Hang out about 10 minutes.

Come back and voila! someone else had to deal with it and the problem is solved.


Alternatively, when you say you are going to the bathroom, just walk right out the door. Only works if you don't really want to talk to those people ever again.

Signed and re-signed. Done it all my life, never had an issue. If they insist on splitting or fronting the bill, either ask once if they are sure or just let em do it. Depends on how you want to "play your cards" so to speak.
