Cnn Money:

Hong Kong and London (CNN Business)
European stock markets cheered the US midterm election results that
will force President Donald Trump to share power with his Democrat opponents.
The outcome left the two houses of Congress split between the Republicans and Democrats but delivered little in the way of surprises.
Markets in Asia swung between small gains and losses as investors digested the results early Wednesday, before ending the day mixed.
By the time European trading began, the focus had shifted to the positives of a divided Congress the prospect of a period of government inactivity.
"This was the most benign result possible from this midterm election," wrote analysts at Gavekal Research.
"Historically, legislative gridlock has been modestly positive for US equity markets.
Simply put, changes in regulation generally prove costly."
Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei index ended 0.3% lower, while the Shanghai Composite dropped 0.7%.
But London's FTSE 100 index, Germany's DAX and France's CAC 40 all gained more than 1% in morning trading.
And US futures were indicating a clearly positive start to the day on Wall Street.
The elections are shaping up to have significant political consequences for the world's largest economy.
Democrats are set to win a majority in the House of Representatives while Republicans will retain control of the Senate.
But investors are betting that there won't be any major changes in policy.
"I don't think the outcome is a big surprise," Larry Fink, the CEO of money management firm BlackRock,
said Wednesday at a Bloomberg business conference in Singapore.
Markets suffered "a big setback" in October and are now "trying to restabilize," Fink said.
Digesting the results of the midterms "will be part of that restabilizing process," he added.
Getting used to gridlock
Gridlock in the United States means neither party is likely to be able to enact sweeping legislation.
While that may mean Republicans and President Trump fail to cut taxes further, it also means the current tax cuts can't be rolled back. A sweeping Democrat win may also have encouraged the party to push for a higher federal minimum wage.
The main US indexes had closed up just over 0.5% on Tuesday as voters went to the polls.
With Congress divided, America's fiscal, regulatory and monetary policies will likely stay the same.
Investors typically don't mind gridlock, cynically figuring it means Washington can't mess anything up.
"Past performance does not guarantee future responses, but sound fundamentals, not politics, are likely
to continue to drive economic performance," commented analysts at Berenberg bank.

DOW +545.29 Tuesday (+)

Cnn Money:

Fed meeting: The US Federal Reserve will announce the result of its two-day meeting on Thursday.

Analysts say it's unlikely the policy meeting will produce any big surprises.
The Fed is expected to stick to its plan to raise interest rates in December, and continue hiking rates gradually in 2019.

Tesla shuffle: Tesla (TSLA) announced late Wednesday that Australian telecoms executive Robyn Denholm will replace CEO Elon Musk
as head of its board of directors, effective immediately.
Denholm, currently the chief financial officer of Australian telecommunications firm Telstra, is already a member of the Telsa board.
She will join Tesla full time after serving a six-month notice period.
Musk was forced to step down as chairman of Tesla and pay a $20 million fine earlier this year to settle charges brought
by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

China's exports soar: China's vast export industry appears to be shrugging off the effects of the trade war with the United States,
at least for now. Chinese exports surged 16% in October compared with the same month a year earlier, beating analyst forecasts.
The spike in exports was despite October being the first full month that US tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods were in effect.
But economists say China isn't completely out of the woods yet, with those tariffs set to increase from 10% to 25% at the end of this year.
The surge in October could reflect people looking to beat the December tariff increase, and was helped by the fall in the value of the yuan
against the dollar this year.

Global stock market overview: Asian markets were mixed on Thursday,
while major markets in Europe opened about 0.3% higher before losing a little ground.
US futures were dipping after an impressive run Wednesday following the midterm elections.
The Dow and S&P 500 both went up about 2% on Wednesday and the Nasdaq surged 2.6%,
as investors cheered a result that saw Democrats take control of the House while Republicans retained the Senate.
A divided government will likely ensure that US economic policies remain unchanged.

Companies: Japanese conglomerate Toshiba (TOSBF) saw its stock jump nearly 13% in Tokyo
Thursday after announcing a major restructuring plan that will see it sell major assets
and cut 7,000 jobs over the next five years.
Toshiba also plans to buy back up to 40% of its own shares.
AMC Entertainment (AMC), Disney (DIS) and Yelp (YELP) will report earnings after the close on Thursday.

DOW Futures currently -79.00

Another tricky spot, some profit taking.
Guessing that Market sells off on profit taking,
with any rally be suppressed by uncertainty before Fed rated decision at 2pm.
Of course the Bulls could keep charging, there lies the rub.

DOW +10.92 Thursday (-)

Cnn Money:

Oil bears: US oil prices are under pressure again after falling into a bear market on Thursday.
US crude futures fell 0.6% to just above $60 per barrel early on Friday.
They've slumped more than 20% since hitting a high of $76 on October 3.
Global benchmark Brent crude is also nearing a bear market, having fallen by almost 19% over the same period.
Analysts blame the slump on a combination of factors. Investors are worried that a global economic slowdown
will eat into demand for energy. The Trump administration's decision to waive temporarily the threat of punishment for
some countries that continue buying oil from Iran has contributed to the slump.
Higher production in Texas and Saudi Arabia is adding even more pressure.

UBS lawsuit: Shares in UBS (UBS) dropped 3% on Friday, after the US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against
the Swiss bank over its sales of residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) in 2006-2007.
"Investors who bought RMBS from UBS suffered catastrophic losses, which not only caused direct harm
to those investors, but also contributed to the financial crisis of 2008," United States Attorney Richard Donoghue said in a statement.
UBS said it will contest the claims made by the DoJ, which it said were "not supported by the facts or the law."

Netflix bets on Asia: Netflix (NFXL) is stepping up its game in Asia, where it has been lagging behind local competitors such
as India's Hotstar, which is being bought by Disney (DIS) as part of the 21st Century Fox (FOXA) deal.
The streaming company announced 17 new original productions from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, India and South Korea on Thursday.
Nine will be in India.
Netflix said it believed the new content will resonate globally.
"More than half of Asian content hours viewed on Netflix this year are viewed outside the region, so we have confidence
that our upcoming slate of Asian productions will find fans in their home countries and abroad," said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix.

Global market overview:
US stock futures were pointing lower early on Friday after the Federal Reserve reinforced market expectations of a rate hike in December.
The Fed left rates on hold on Thursday, but its statement indicated policymakers believe the US economy is strong. The optimistic tone made
investors believe a December hike is firmly in the cards.
"The [Fed] meeting ... has left the market with a 75% chance of a December hike priced in and that seems, if anything, a little low,"
noted Kit Juckes at Societe Generale.
European markets opened lower, following a negative session in Asia.

Earnings and economics: MoneyGram (MGI), Tribune Media (TRCO) and Rockwell Collins (COL)
are set to report earnings before the opening bell on Friday.
US producer prices data will be published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics at 8:30 a.m. ET.
The University of Michigan preliminary consumer sentiment report for November will be released at 10 a.m. ET.
Latest UK GDP data showed the British economy grew 0.6% in the three months to the end of September, unchanged from the previous quarter.
Shares in Volkswagen (VLKAF) dropped 2.8% in Frankfurt after the carmaker said global sales of Volkswagen branded vehicles dropped 6.2% i
n October compared to the same month last year. The company partly blamed trade tensions between the United States and China,
where its sales fell by almost 10%.

DOW -201.92 Friday (+)

Cnn Money:

SoftBank's IPO plans: SoftBank is gearing up for one of the world's biggest IPOs ever.
The Japanese company said Monday it plans to sell 2.4 trillion yen ($21 billion)
worth of stock in its mobile telecoms unit.

SoftBank (SFTBY) will also have the option of selling another 240 billion yen ($2.1 billion) of shares if
investor demand is strong. That would make the IPO bigger than $23 billion.
It would be the world's biggest listing since Alibaba (BABA) went public in New York in 2014.
The listing is set to take place on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on December 19.
The IPO is a key part of CEO Masa Son's efforts to reposition SoftBank as a global tech investor.

Oil surges:
Oil prices jumped early on Monday after Saudi Arabia said it would cut production next month.
Speaking at a conference in Abu Dhabi, Saudi energy minister Khalid Al Falih said the kingdom's oil
output would fall by 500,000 barrels per day in December.
Members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies could reduce supply further next year.
"The consensus among all members is that we need to do whatever it takes to balance the market," Al Falih said.
"If that means trimming supply by a million [barrels per day], we will do it."
Brent crude, the international benchmark, jumped as much as 2.4% to $71.80 per barrel.
US crude futures were 1.6% higher, trading just above $61 per barrel.

Global oil prices tumbled into a bear market last week, down more than 20% from their peak.
Fears of a global economic slowdown and a decision by the United States to allow some countries
to keep buying Iranian crude oil following the reintroduction of sanctions have hit market sentiment.

Brexit troubles:
The pound dropped as much as 1.2% against the dollar on Monday as
Prime Minister Theresa May found herself under growing pressure over her plan for Brexit.
Boris Johnson, the former UK Foreign Secretary, said cabinet members ought to mutiny over the plan.
Writing in the Daily Telegraph, he said May's plan would turn the United Kingdom into "a vassal state."
The warning came just two days after Boris' brother Jo Johnson, an opponent of Brexit,
resigned from the UK government over Brexit. He said the 2016 referendum campaign
was based on a "fantasy set of promises" that could not be delivered.
Britain is set to leave the European Union in March next year.
A divorce agreement between the two sides has not yet been finalized,
stoking fear among investors and businesses of a chaotic no-deal Brexit.

Global market overview:
US stock futures were mixed early on Monday.
European markets opened mostly lower, except for London's FTSE 100, which got a boost from the weaker pound.
The index contains many international conglomerates that benefit when the pound drops.
Stocks in Asia were mixed. Equities in China and Hong Kong were higher, while Korea and India recorded losses.
The Dow Jones industrial average closed 0.8% lower on Friday, but still ended the week 2.8% higher, its best week since March.
Companies and economics: Eventbrite (EB) is set to report its latest result after the closing bell on Monday.
The company is weathering a rough market for tech companies.
Alibaba (BABA) was trading lower premarket despite smashing the record for its online retail blitz known as Singles Day.
China's biggest e-commerce company said sales topped $30 billion over a 24-hour period Sunday, soaring past last year's record
of about $24 billion.
Diageo (DEO) said Monday it is selling a portfolio of 19 spirit brands to Sazerac for $550 million
in order to focus on premium US brands.
The stock was little changed after the announcement.
Shares in British American Tobacco (BTI) dropped 8.3% in London on Monday
on reports that menthol cigarettes might be banned in the United States.

Dow Futures currently -8.0

DOW -602.12 Monday (-)

Cnn Money:

Tech rout:
Tech stocks were hit hard Tuesday amid concerns about slowing demand for Apple iPhones.

Apple suppliers in Asia found themselves under pressure. Japan Display was down 9.5%,
Hon Hai Precision Industry (HNHPD), known as Foxconn, dropped 3% and Taiwan Semiconductors (TSM) lost 2.5%
The slump was triggered by a 5% slide in Apple (AAPL) shares on Monday after supplier Lumentum (LITE)
cut its earnings and sales forecast
because of weak demand. JPMorgan also cut its target price on Apple's stock.
That caused widespread pain. Amazon (AMZN) shed 4.5% on Monday and Tesla (TSLA) fell more than 5%.
Facebook (FB), Google (GOOGL), Netflix (NFLX) and Microsoft (MSFT) dropped over 2%.
The Dow closed the session down 2.3%. The S&P 500 shed 2% and the Nasdaq slumped 2.8%

Amazon decides: Amazon has chosen New York City and Northern Virginia to split duty as its second headquarters,
according to the Wall Street Journal. The official announcement could come as early as Tuesday.
The development projects will bring the cities a huge infusion of jobs and tax revenue,
but are almost certain to draw fire from critics concerned about their impact on infrastructure and property values.
3. Global market overview: US stock futures were pointing higher.
European markets opened in positive territory, while stocks in Asia were mixed.
US crude futures dropped 2% to trade at $58.70 per barrel. Crude is on track for 12 consecutive days of losses,
the longest slide since oil futures trading was introduced on the NYMEX in March 1983.
The historic slump knocked oil into a bear market — barely a month after it hit four-year highs.

Earnings and economics: Aramark (ARMK), Home Depot (HD) and Tyson Foods (TSN) will release earnings before the opening bell.
SurveyMonkey (SVMK) and Tilray (TLRY) will follow after the close.
Shares in Vodafone (VOD) jumped almost 6% after the UK telecoms firm said it would slash costs and create a virtual company
to manage its towers. Vodafone also froze its dividend.

Properly spanked by the Market yesterday, bounce back or continue south?

Dow Futures currently +52.00

Perhaps sidelines, some sort of straddle would be best.
Feel downside risk too great, but a healthy gains a real possibility.

DOW -100.69 Tuesday (+)

Cnn Money:

Tencent earnings: WeChat owner Tencent (TCEHY) is set to report earnings after the closing bell in Hong Kong.
The technology and entertainment conglomerate is having a tough year. Its stock is down about 30% so far in 2018.
The company was hit hard by a Chinese government crackdown on gaming last month. China is the world's biggest gaming market,
and Tencent is the world's biggest gaming company.

Global slowdown:
Worries about a global slowdown have increased after Japan and Germany said their economies contracted in the third quarter.
The problems plaguing the economies are different, but their size means the pain cannot be ignored: Japan boasts the world's
third largest economy, while Germany is ranked fourth.
The German economy contracted 0.2% in the third quarter compared to the previous three months,
its first decline in more than three years.
Data showed the slowdown was mainly due to weak exports and a fall in consumer spending.
Global trade tensions and new vehicle emissions tests have also hit the country's massive car industry.

Japan said its GDP shrunk 0.3% in the third quarter.
The country recently enjoyed its longest streak of economic growth in decades, but momentum has stalled this year.
Inflation remains below the central bank's target of 2% despite a massive stimulus program and unusual policies like negative interest rates.

There were other reasons to worry about Europe:
New data showed the eurozone economy grew 0.2% in the third quarter,
just half the rate reported for the previous three months.
Growth in the wider European Union also slowed.

Global market overview:
US stock futures were pointing lower.
European markets opened lower, following a negative session in Asia.
Italian banks were under pressure after the country's government refused
to cave to pressure from the European Commission to slash its planned budget deficit.

US crude futures have stabilized after dropping 7% on Tuesday.
It was crude's worst day since September 2015 and a record 12th consecutive decline.
Oil was trading up 0.8% on Wednesday at $56.00 per barrel.

Earnings and economics:
Macy's (M) is set to report results before the opening bell.
The retailer's stock is up more than 40%, but investors are worried the momentum is slowing.
Blue Apron (APRN) said Tuesday it will cut 4% of its workforce in order to become more profitable.
The company is shedding customers and reported a $34 million loss in the third quarter.

The pound was jittery ahead of a crucial meeting of Prime Minister Theresa May's cabinet.
The European Union and the United Kingdom have agreed a draft Brexit divorce,
but a key test comes later on Wednesday when May will seek her divided cabinet's backing.

DOW -205.99 Wednesday (+)

Cnn Money:

Uber losses accelerate: Uber continues to bleed money as it races toward a much-hyped IPO next year.

The tech firm said Wednesday that it lost $1.07 billion in the three months ending in September,
up from a loss of $891 million in the previous quarter, as it invested in newer services ranging from food deliveries to scooters.
Uber posted sales of $2.95 billion for the quarter, up about 5% from the prior quarter and an increase of more than a third from
the same period a year earlier.
The results highlight the challenge Uber faces in trying to generate the kind of rapid sales growth that investors expect
from a newly public technology company without inflating its losses.
Uber has repeatedly said it expects to go public in 2019.

China makes an offer:
The Chinese government has presented an offer to the United States to try to push forward stalled trade talks,
according to two people briefed on the discussions.
The opening bid falls short of many of the core demands the White House has repeatedly detailed as must-haves in
trade talks with Beijing, including addressing technology transfers and intellectual property theft, one of the people briefed told CNN.
Instead, the proposal has been described as a rehash of previous commitments Chinese leaders have publicly announced, like selectively
lifting tariffs.
"What they are offering is not new," this person said. "I think the two sides remain at an impasse.
The channels are now open again, but there's a lot of work to get to — whether it's a modest de-escalation or ceasefire."
Talks have been revived ahead of a planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart,
Xi Jinping, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires.

Brexit in chaos: The UK government's top official on Brexit, Dominic Raab, resigned on Thursday,
throwing the UK-EU divorce deal negotiated by Prime Minister Theresa May into doubt.
The pound fell by 1.6% to below $1.28 on news of the resignation. It was trading flat earlier in the morning.
May said in a brief statement on Wednesday that she had secured the support of her cabinet to move ahead with the deal,
which must also be approved by parliament. Now all bets are off, and the risk that Britain crashes out of the European Union is rising.
There's also a slim chance Brits may eventually be asked to vote again on Brexit.

Fed chair on economic challenges: Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell says the US economy is robust.
But headwinds could build next year.
"I'm very happy about the state of the economy now," he said Wednesday in Dallas.
"Our policy is part of the reason why our economy is in such a good place right now."
The central banker said markets need to be prepared for more rate hikes.
"If you look down the road, you see challenges ahead," he added.
One key issue is whether the United States can weather an emerging
global economic slowdown that has already ensnared three of the world's top four economies.

Global markets: US stock futures were higher.
European markets opened in positive territory, building on momentum that started in Asia.

WednesdayBitcoin extended its losses on Thursday, after falling more than 10% on Wednesday.
It's now trading around $5,500, far from the heights it reached during its meteoric rise at the end of 2017.

Dow Futures currently +27.00

DOW +208.77 Thursday (-)

Cnn Money:

Tech troubles: It's shaping up to be a rough day for tech stocks.

Shares in Nvidia plunged nearly 17% in extended trading after the company's third quarter results
came in significantly lower than expected. Shares in rival chipmaker AMD (AMD) slumped 5% after hours.
The pain extended to Asia, where shares in gaming company Nintendo (NTDOY) dropped more than 9%
on Friday and SoftBank (SFTBF) stock dropped over 3%.
Some of the unease can be attributed to a sharp decline in the price of bitcoin.
Nvidia (NVDA) specializes in making hardware for video game consoles and digital currency mining.

Brexit chaos: Investors are closely monitoring political developments in the United Kingdom,
where Prime Minister Theresa May is fighting to keep her Brexit deal alive.
The pound was flat Friday after falling as much as 2% against the dollar during the previous trading session.
UK bank stocks including Lloyds (LYG), Barclays (BCS) and Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) were hit for a second consecutive day.
Investors are worried that Britain could crash out of the European Union without a deal on Brexit.
That would trigger new trade barriers and likely plunge the United Kingdom into recession.
"If the deal as proposed fails to pass parliament, the chances of a no-deal Brexit increase,"
said Kit Juckes, a strategist at Societe Generale.

Global market overview: US stock futures were pointing lower.
European markets opened higher, while stocks in Asia were mixed.
Markets in Hong Kong and Korea gained, while Japan's Nikkei moved lower because of the tech rout.
The Dow closed 0.8% higher on Thursday, snapping a four-day losing streak.
The S&P 500 added 1% and the Nasdaq gained 1.7%.

Companies and economics:
Viacom (VIAB) is set to release its latest earnings before the opening bell.
US industrial production data will be published at 9:15 a.m. ET.
Volkswagen (VLFAK) is set to unveil its electric vehicle investment strategy at a press conference at 6:30 a.m. ET.
The world's biggest carmaker previewed the strategy earlier this week, announcing that two of its factories in Germany
will become electric vehicle plants by 2022.
Shares in California electric utility PG&E (PCG) were volatile in premarket trading. The stock plunged to its lowest level
in more than 15 years on Thursday over concerns about potential liabilities tied to the Camp Fire.

Cnn Money:

Bracing for Brexit:
The global growth fears that have rocked the US stock market will only deepen if the United Kingdom crashes out of the European Union.
The odds of a messy Brexit, where Britain leaves the European Union without a transition deal, have increased significantly.
Such an outcome would be destabilizing and create enormous uncertainty.
And it would likely plunge the UK, the world's fifth-largest economy, into recession.
The timing would be terrible. Germany and Japan, the No. 3 and 4 economies, are already contracting.
And China is grappling with a slowdown.
All of this will act as a brake on the United States, which is growing steadily but is likely to decelerate in 2019 regardless.
The pitfalls of Brexit came back into sharp focus last week after UK Prime Minister Theresa May suffered the resignation
of key government ministers opposing her bid to reach a divorce deal with the EU.
The risk that parliament fails to agree to the Brexit terms sent the pound tumbling 2% on Thursday.
UK banks fell sharply. Royal Bank of Scotland's (RBS) US-listed shares lost 14% last week, while Barclays (BCS) shed 8%.
"Rejection of the deal would increase the odds of a no-deal Brexit significantly and would be strongly negative for markets,"
Bill Witherell, chief global economist and portfolio manager at Cumberland Advisors, wrote to clients.
That's the last thing Wall Street needs.
A bout of volatility has knocked the S&P 500 more than 7% lower since hitting a record high on September 21.
Beyond signs of a global slowdown, investors are concerned about the US-China trade war, the impact of the
Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes, the abrupt plunge in oil prices and a looming slowdown in corporate profit growth.
Those headaches have sparked an exodus from momentum stocks like Facebook (FB), Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN).
Another worry: the US dollar has continued to strengthen. The greenback is up about 5% this year against a basket of currencies.
The strong dollar makes American goods sold overseas more expensive. And it hurts multinational companies when they convert foreign revenue.
A chaotic Brexit threatens to make the dollar even stronger, against not just the pound but the euro too.
"The Eurozone economy is simply not in good enough shape to shrug it off," Societe Generale strategist Kit Juckes wrote to clients.
None of this means a messy Brexit will happen and infect the US stock market. There is still a good chance that the UK will reach
a resolution that eases the economic fallout.
US investors are certainly hoping so. Their worry list is already getting full.

Black Friday:
The official kickoff to the holiday shopping season begins this week.
Buoyed by low unemployment, a strong economy and high consumer confidence, the National Retail Federation forecasts
an uptick in consumer spending.
The organization says shoppers will spend 4% more this holiday season, from $967 last year to $1,007 this year.
Last year, 174 million people went shopping in-store or online between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
"Retailers expect strong demand this year, and are prepared with a wide array of merchandise
while offering strong deals and promotions
during the busiest and most competitive shopping season of the year," NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said.

Retail earnings:
More retailers are reporting earnings this week, including Urban Outfitters (URBN), Best Buy (BBY), Kohl's (KSS), Gap (GPS),
TJ Maxx owner TJX (TJX) and Target (TGT).
L Brands, which is the parent company of Victoria's Secret, Bath and Body Works, and Henri Bendel, reports on Monday.
The company is severely struggling: its stock is down 40% for the year.
It previously announced it was shuttering its 123-year-old Bendel accessory unit.
Another part of the company's problem is its lingerie retailer, Victoria's Secret.
Younger customers have deemed it uncool and switched allegiance to more inexpensive bra brands.
Last week, unconfirmed reports indicated that CEO Jan Singer has resigned.
The announcement of Singer's departure might be shared on Monday.

Soup shocker:
Investors will be eagerly awaiting Tuesday's earnings report amid a fierce proxy fight Campbell Soup (CPB) for control of the board.
Activist investor Daniel Loeb wants to replace five members of the 12-person board. Campbell's management says it knows the company
best and can put it back on the right track. The struggling 149-year-old company has faced a slew of problems including poor sales,
an ill-fated acquisition of Bolthouse and the abrupt departure of its CEO this year.
If Campbell has a strong quarter, management may use the good results to bolster its case.
But if earnings disappoint, Loeb will be ready to pounce.

DOW -395.78 Monday (+)

Cnn Money:

End of a business legend:
The arrest of Carlos Ghosn in Japan on Monday is forcing three major automakers to make tough decisions about their leadership.
Ghosn, the chairman of Nissan (NSANY) Mitsubishi Motors (MMTOF) and Renault (RNSDF), was detained by Japanese authorities after
an investigation by Nissan revealed "significant acts of misconduct" over many years.
Nissan said the misconduct included significantly under-reporting his compensation and misusing company assets.
Ghosn is yet to respond to the allegations.
Ghosn is credited with rescuing Nissan and Renault, and stitching together three automakers into a global alliance.
But he's now likely to be ousted as chair of all three.
Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that he would meet with representatives from Renault on Tuesday to discuss
appointing interim management because Ghosn is "no longer capable of leading the group."
The French government owns 15% of Renault. Ghosn also serves as CEO at the carmaker.
Nissan's board will meet Thursday to remove Ghosn from his position.
Mitsubishi has also asked its board of directors to "promptly remove" Ghosn as chairman.
Shares in Renault dropped another 3.5% on Tuesday after getting rocked in the previous trading session.
Nissan stock shed 5.5% in Tokyo and shares in Mitsubishi declined nearly 7%.

Down goes bitcoin: The price of bitcoin has plunged 15% over the past 24 hours,
at one point reaching a low of $4,200. It continues to swing wildly.
As is often the case with digital currencies, the cause of the crash is unclear.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission recently cracked down on "initial coin offerings,"
and sales of crypto mining equipment appear to have slowed.
Bitcoin prices are now roughly 75% below record levels set a year ago at the height of a bubble.

Soup earnings: Investors are eagerly awaiting an earnings report from Campbell Soup (CPB)
amid a fierce proxy fight for control of its board.
Activist investor Daniel Loeb wants to replace five members of the company's 12-person board.
Campbell management says it knows the company best and can put it back on the right track.
The struggling 149-year-old company has faced a slew of problems including poor sales,
an ill-fated acquisition of Bolthouse and the abrupt departure of its CEO this year.
If Campbell has a strong quarter, management could use the good results to bolster its case.
But if earnings disappoint, Loeb will be ready to pounce.

Global market overview:
US stock futures were lower, signaling another tough day of trading on Wall Street.
European markets opened in negative territory on Tuesday. Germany's DAX led the retreat, shedding over 1%.
In Asia, Japan's Nikkei dropped 1.1% while benchmark indexes in Shanghai and Hong Kong lost roughly 2%.
The Dow dropped 1.6% on Monday and the S&P 500 shed 1.7%.
The Nasdaq tumbled 3% as tech stocks including Apple (AAPL), Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN)
and Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) suffered heavy losses.

Earnings and economics: Barnes and Noble (BKS), Best Buy (BBY), Campbell Soup (CPB),
Hormel Foods (HRL), Lowe's (LOW) and Target (TGT) are set to release earnings before the open.
Foot Locker (FL) and Gap (GPS) will follow after the close.
