Apple's big reveal: Apple (AAPL) is expected to unveil new iPhones and
an updated Apple Watch at its annual press conference in Cupertino, California.
The iPhone is traditionally Apple's biggest cash cow, but investors will want to learn
more about the company's other revenue sources — its media business and services
like iTunes and iCloud.
Apple will likely give the dates for upcoming software updates, such as iOS 12 and Mac OS Mojave,
and possibly share news about AirPods, its AirPower charging pad, and the iPad Pro line.
The event, which will be livestreamed, kicks off at 1 pm (Eastern)

Europe on tech:
The European Parliament is expected to vote on new copyright rules that could mean major changes for tech platforms.
Supporters say reforms are needed to restore the balance of power between content producers and Big Tech.
But critics warn of dire consequences:
They say the proposal could signal the end of internet memes, or lead to the closure of Google News.
Big tech companies including Google (GOOGL) have been lobbying against the rules.

Separately, the European Commission has called for fines to be imposed on
tech companies that fail to remove terror content within an hour of it being flagged.

Carney warns:
Bank of England Governor Mark Carney has warned that another financial crisis could happen.
"Could something like this happen again?" he told the BBC on the 10th anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers.
"Could there be a trigger for a crisis? If we're complacent, of course it could."
One big risk cited by the influential central banker was China.
"Their financial sector has developed very rapidly, and it has made many of the
same assumptions that were made in the run up to the last financial crisis," he said of the country.
Also on Wednesday, the Brookings Institution will host a panel discussion on the financial crisis with
former Fed chairman Ben Bernanke and ex-Treasury secretaries Tim Geithner and Hank Paulson.

Global market overview: US stock futures were edging higher.
European markets opened up, while stocks in Asia ended lower.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.3% after slipping into bear market territory on Tuesday.

Oil futures were trading 1% higher at around $70 per barrel.
A weekly report on US crude inventories will be released at 10:30am(Eastern)

Companies and economics: Shares in Hermes (HESAF) gained 2.6%
after the maker of Birkin bags posted record profitability in the first half of the year.
The company attributed the performance to "positive momentum in continental China.

Central banks take the stage:
The European Central Bank, the Bank of England and the Turkish Central Bank will make policy decisions on Thursday.
The ECB and Bank of England are expected to hold interest rates steady, but there could be more drama in Turkey.

The Turkish lira has lost 40% against the dollar this year and inflation has spiked to nearly 18%.
But the central bank has failed to react, raising concerns that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan,
who opposes higher rates, is influencing monetary policy.
The lira dropped ahead of the meeting, which investors view as a major test of the central bank's independence.

Kroger (KR) has stepped up its efforts to push back against online competition.
It has launched forays into China, a home delivery service and visions of a plastic-bag-free future last month alone.
Earlier this year, it signed an exclusive deal with UK online supermarket Ocado to use its technology in the United States.
Traditional retailers are struggling to keep up with the changing habits of their shoppers.
British department store John Lewis provided another example on Thursday, reporting a 99% drop in profits in the first half of the year.

China trade talks: The Trump administration has offered China a new chance to talk trade as US officials prepare
to impose steep tariffs on a huge range of Chinese goods. The Chinese Commerce Ministry said it welcomed the invitation.
President Donald Trump said last week that new tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods could go into effect "very soon"
and warned that another, even bigger wave of measures is "ready to go on short notice if I want."
The two economic superpowers have already imposed tariffs of 25% on more than $50 billion of each other's exports.

No deal Brexit planning:
The UK government is holding a cabinet meeting to plan for life after Brexit
and consider the implications of dropping out of the European Union without a deal.
It will then release another batch of notices advising businesses on how to prepare
for a no-deal Brexit, an outcome that businesses have warned against.
The notices will include information on cell phone charges while
traveling abroad and environmental standards.
The pound was flat against the dollar.

Cnn Money:

Big week for trade: President Donald Trump is planning to impose a fresh round of tariffs
targeting about $200 billion in Chinese goods as early as Monday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The timing of the announcement is fluid, two people familiar with the plans have told CNN.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Beijing could scuttle a visit to Washington by a top economic policy official
if Trump moves forward with the tariffs.
"China is not going to negotiate with a gun pointed to its head,"
the newspaper quoted a senior Chinese official saying.
New US tariffs would mark a significant escalation in the trade war with China,
which has promised to retaliate with measures targeting American exports worth $60 billion.

Another problem at Tesla? The electric-car maker has struggled to ramp up production of its Model 3.
But CEO Elon Musk says he's now having trouble getting the vehicles to customers.

"We've gone from production hell to delivery logistics hell," he told a Twitter user who complained
that the Tesla (TSLA) she had ordered was stuck at a railway depot.
While it's not clear how many cars are waiting to be delivered,
Musk said this problem is "far more tractable" that production delays.
"We're making rapid progress," he said on Twitter. "Should be solved shortly.

Amazon investigates:
Amazon is investigating allegations that some of its employees have offered to leak confidential information

Amazon (AMZN) staff members are reportedly peddling internal data and other advantages that independent merchants
can use to try to get higher rankings for their products in searches on the site.
The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the story, said the practice is "particularly pronounced in China."
An Amazon spokeswoman told CNN that the company has launched an investigation into the claims.

Global market overview: US stock futures were slightly higher.
European markets dropped in early trade. Major indexes in China shed more than 1%.
Japanese markets were closed for a holiday.
US stocks were flat on Friday. But all three major indexes advanced 1% on the week.

The Indian rupee dropped further on Monday despite government efforts to stop its slide.
India announced a series of measures to prop up the currency over the weekend,
but the proposals were light on detail.
The rupee has fallen more than 10% against the US dollar this year,
stoking inflation in the world's fastest growing major economy.

Trade war escalates:
The Trump administration has announced a new round of tariffs on Chinese goods worth $200 billion that will go into effect next week.
President Donald Trump had urged his advisers to press forward with the tariffs, even as Washington and Beijing worked to restart trade talks.
Trump's decision threatens to upend the possibility of a diplomatic breakthrough with Chinese negotiators.
The United States will charge a 10% tariff on the imports, increasing to 25% at the end of the year.
\The additional tariffs are on top of penalties enacted earlier this year on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods.
Taken together, it means roughly half of the products that China sells to the United States each year will be hit by American tariffs.
The Chinese government said it would retaliate.

Global market overview: Markets were calm despite another escalation in the trade war between the world's two biggest economies.
US stock futures were pointing up and European markets opened mostly higher.
Asian markets ended the session mixed.

"It seems as if the latest tariff announcement was largely priced in,"
said Hussein Sayed, chief market strategist at FXTM.

Cnn Money:

Trade war developments:
Global markets appear largely unfazed by the latest escalation in the trade war between the United States and China.
The Trump administration announced Tuesday it will hit $200 billion worth of Chinese goods with new tariffs.
China immediately retaliated, saying it will impose tariffs on US goods worth $60 billion.

Started the week looking like Ceceil copper on a 3-2 low outside curve ball.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang calmed the waters on Wednesday, announcing China
"will never go down the path of stimulating exports by devaluing its currency."
Investors were worried China might start fighting the trade war through the yuan.

US stock futures were flat on Wednesday. European markets opened higher.
Asian markets were mixed, but stocks in China and Hong Kong ended the session higher.

Danske Bank in trouble:
Shares in Denmark's largest bank dropped over 5% after an internal investigation uncovered
a large number of suspicious accounts and transactions at its branch in Estonia.
CEO Thomas Borgen said he will step down once a replacement is found.
Danske Bank (DNKEY) said the investigation into potential money laundering had found
"a large number of non-resident customers in Estonia that we should have never had."

Brexit talks:
EU leaders are gathering in Salzburg for an informal summit that could produce a breakthrough in deadlocked Brexit negotiations.
British Prime Minister Theresa May will make a pitch to her fellow European leaders for a continued close relationship between
the United Kingdom and the European Union. Businesses are increasingly worried about the possibility of the United Kingdom
dropping out of the union without a deal.
The issue of the border between Norther Ireland and Ireland will be high on the agenda —
both sides have said they want to avoid the return of a hard border.
Companies and economics: Herman Miller (MLHR) will release earnings after the US close.

Nintendo (NTDOF) stock gained 2.4% in Tokyo after the company launched
a new paid membership service, Nintendo Switch Online.
Shares in Sony (SNE) advanced 0.5% after the company announced it
would release a miniaturized version of its PlayStation Classic in December.

British developer and home improvement company Kingfisher (KGFHF)
reported a 15% drop in profits in the first half of the year.
It attributed the loss to a poor performance in France.

The Bank of Japan left interest rates unchanged on Wednesday, in line with expectations.

UK inflation rose unexpectedly in August to 2.7%, from 2.5% in July.
Economists had expected the rate to drop to 2.4%.

Nestle plans for the future: Nestle (NSRGF) says it's exploring the sale of its skin health business.
The company's board said in a statement that "future growth opportunities of Nestle Skin Health

The board has been under pressure from activist investors, including hedge fund billionaire

Jack Ma's warning:
Alibaba's Jack Ma says the escalating trade conflict between the United States and China has

This promise can't be completed."

Brexit tension:
The first day of an informal gathering of EU leaders in Salzburg failed to yield a breakthrough on Brexit.
Britain and the European Union have not yet been able to agree the terms of Britain's impending exit

Aston Martin is targeting a price of £17.50 ($23.08) to £22.50 ($29.68) per share for its IPO, giving the
luxury carmaker an implied value of up to £5.1 billion ($6.7 billion).
Some analysts aren't so sure.
"We love the brand. We respect the management team.
But we simply can't see how a Ferrari multiple looks realistic," wrote analysts at Bernstein.

Shares in Canadian cannabis company Tilray (TLRY) jumped 38% on Wednesday, hitting a market cap of $20 billion.
Marihuana will become legal in Canada next month and the stunning rise in the share price is partially fueled by
retail investors hoping to cash in.

Equifax (EFX) has been fined £500,000 fine ($659,000) by the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
The regulator said the credit scoring company failed to protect the personal information of up to
15 million UK citizens during a cyberattack in 2017.

DOW +251.22 Thursday (+)

Cnn Money:

Markets surge: The Dow Jones industrial average surged 1% and closed at a record high on Thursday.
It's the index's first new record since January.
The milestone shows that Wall Street is mostly unfazed by the escalating trade clash between the
United States and China, the world's two biggest economies.
The Dow closed at 26,657. It has spiked about 3,300 points since hitting a recent low on April 2.
Investors are betting that the strong US economy will help minimize the impact of tariffs.
The S&P 500 gained 0.8% on Thursday and the Nasdaq added 1%.

Momentum could continue on Friday. US stock futures were higher, and European markets opened with gains.
The Shanghai Composite jumped 2.5% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng increased 1.7%.

Sky (SKYS) has been the subject of an extended fight between Comcast (CCZ) and 21st Century Fox (FOX).
Fox is now backed by Disney (DIS), which is in the process of buying most of Fox's entertainment assets.
The UK Takeover Panel is set to hold an auction for Sky on Saturday if there's no resolution to the long-running
takeover battle by close of business on Friday.
It's rare for a UK takeover to be decided by auction but the process is designed to produce final bids from each
suitor that can then be evaluated by shareholders.

New Apple products: Apple's new iPhone models are hitting stores.
The smartphone has been Apple's (AAPL) biggest cash cow for years and investors are watching its sales closely.
The 5.8-inch iPhone XS starts at $999 in the United States, while the iPhone XS Max costs $100 more.
The "affordable" iPhone XR ($749) ships next month.
The company is also releasing iOS 12, Apple Watch and software updates to its HomePod and tvOS devices.
Companies and economics: Uber is in talks to buy UK-based food delivery company Deliveroo, according to
Bloomberg and the Financial Times. Both companies declined to comment.
A deal could spark a wave of consolidation in the crowded food delivery industry in Europe.
Shares in JustEat (JSTTY), another UK-based player, tanked 6.7% on the reports.

Shares in India's Yes Bank plunged 34% after the Reserve Bank of India
said the bank's chief executive has to step down by the end of January 2019.

Jet Airways stock dropped as much as 7% after a rough couple of days for the struggling Indian airline.
It was questioned by India's tax authorities on Wednesday, and around 30 passengers complained of
nose and ear bleeds due to low pressure on a flight Thursday.

Canadian inflation data will be published at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Shares in GE (GE) dropped 3% on Thursday after the company said one
of its gas turbines recently suffered a glitch at a Texas power plant.

DOW +86.52 Friday (+)

Cnn Money:

Sky shareholders cheer: A great day for Comcast is turning into an even better one for Sky shareholders.
The American cable giant outbid 21st Century Fox (FOX) and its powerful backer, Disney (DIS),
on Saturday in an auction for control of the European pay-TV broadcaster.
Comcast's (CMCSA) final bid was £17.28 ($22.65), valuing Sky at £30.6 billion ($40.1 billion).
That was way up on its previous offer of £14.75, and Sky's closing share price on Friday.
The stock moved fast Monday to catch up, gaining over 8.5% to £17.22 ($22.58) in early London trading.
Two big unanswered questions: What will Fox to do with the 39% of Sky it owns?
And what will Comcast shareholders think of the price CEO Brian Roberts paid for Sky?

A bigger conflict:
The trade fight between the United States and China intensified Monday
as the two economic superpowers hit each other with their biggest round of tariffs yet.
The Trump administration imposed new 10% tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods just
after midnight ET, spanning thousands of products, including food seasonings, baseball gloves,
network routers and industrial machinery parts.
China retaliated immediately with new taxes of 5% to 10% on $60 billion of US goods
such as meat, chemicals, clothes and auto parts.

Huge gold deal:
Barrick Gold (ABX) has acquired Randgold Resources (GOLD) in an all-share deal that creates
a mining giant with a major presence in the United States and Africa.
Barrick shareholders will own 67% of the new company, while Randgold shareholders will own 33%.
The market value of the combined firm is $18.3 billion.
Randgold CEO Mark Bristow will become president and chief executive of the merged company.
John Thornton of Barrick will be executive chairman.

Global market overview: US stock futures were lower.
European markets were down in early trading.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 1.5%,
while benchmark indexes in Shanghai and Tokyo were closed for holidays.

Companies and economics:
Shares in Thomas Cook plummeted nearly 25% after the UK tour
operator warned that unusually hot weather would dent its earnings.

Ascena Retail Group (ASNA) will release earnings after the US close.

DOW -69.84 Tuesday (+)

Cnn Money:

Fed rates decision: The US Federal Reserve is expected to raise its benchmark interest rate by
a quarter of a percentage point for the third time this year, to a range of 2% to 2.25%.
If it happens, it will be he eighth hike since late 2015. Four more moves before the end of 2019 may be in the cards.
At the same time, the Fed is trimming its $4.5 trillion balance sheet — an experiment that could contribute to higher
borrowing costs as foreign central banks follow suit and unload bonds.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell will hold a news conference after the decision is issued at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Investors want to hear more about how the central bank is contending with risks to economic growth,
including the ballooning trade war and rising oil prices.
Nike fails to convince investors: Shares in Nike (NKE) were poised to open lower after the company released earnings on Tuesday.
Nike reported double-digit growth in sneaker and clothing sales, digital sales and profit in the second quarter compared with the
same time last year. But that still wasn't enough to impress investors.
Shares in Nike have climbed about 36% this year.

New leader at Daimler: German carmaker Daimler (DDAIF) has announced its succession plan.
Ola Kšllenius will replace Dieter Zetsche as chief executive and head of Mercedes Benz in 2019.
Kšllenius has been in charge of the company's research and development since 2017,
and was widely seen as a possible successor to Zetsche.
Zetsche won't going away, however: Shareholders will be asked to make him chairman
of the carmaker's Supervisory Board starting in 2021.

Global market overview: US stock futures were higher.
European markets dropped in early trading, while stocks in Asia closed mostly higher.
Earnings and economics: CarMax (KMX) will release earnings before the open.
Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) is will follow after the close.

Shares in GE (GE) fell 4% on Tuesday to a nine-year low after French energy company EDF
reportedly shut down a GE turbine at one of its power plants.

Shares in Nissan (NSANF) dropped 4.1% in Tokyo after the company admitted it had
"extremely low awareness" about testing of emissions.
The carmaker acknowledged irregularities relating to emissions tests earlier this year.

DOW -106.93 Wednesday (-)

Cnn Money:

Fed aftermath: A decision by the US Federal Reserve to increase interest rates for
the third time this year has produced a cautious reaction from investors.
The rate hike on Wednesday was a sign of increased confidence in the US economy.
Unemployment is low, economic growth is strong, and inflation is relatively stable.
Fed policymakers led by Chairman Jerome Powell unanimously agreed to raise the
federal funds rate a quarter percentage point, to a range of 2% to 2.25%.
Bank stocks were particularly hard hit. Shares in Wells Fargo (WFC),
Bank of America (BAC) and Goldman Sachs (GS) shed nearly 2%.

H&M shines online:
Swedish fashion retailer H&M (HMRZF) reported a big improvement in online sales in its third quarter,
a crucial metric for traditional retailers that face competition from online giants like Amazon (AMZN).
H&M said its sales overall rose 9% in the quarter, while online sales jumped 32%.
Shares in the company shot up 10% in Stockholm.
Profits slid more than expected, however.
H&M blamed the weakness on problems with a new logistics system in some of its biggest markets.

Facebook spat: WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton has harshly criticized Facebook over its approach to privacy.
Acton said in an interview with Forbes that he was unhappy with Facebook (FB)'s approach to monetizing WhatsApp.
"I sold my users' privacy to a larger benefit. I made a choice and a compromise.
And I live with that every day," he said in the interview.
The Acton interview comes just days after Instagram founders
Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger announced they will leave the company.
Reports suggest they too had disagreements with Zuckerberg over the direction of their app.
WhatsApp and Instagram are among Facebook's most high profile acquisitions.

Global market overview: US stock futures were mixed.
European markets were opened mostly higher, while stocks in Asia ended lower. US oil futures gained 1.3%.

Earnings and economics: Carnival (CCL), McCormick (MKC), Rite Aid (RAD)
and Scholastic Corp (SCHL) will release earnings before the open.

The euro was trading 0.5% lower against the dollar as Italy's populist government prepared to unveil its budget proposal.
The plan spark a major conflict with the European Commission, which insists on eurozone countries keeping their deficit at 3% of GDP or less.

The International Monetary Fund announced Wednesday it will increase the size of Argentina's bailout to $57.4 billion through 2021.

DOW +54.65 Thursday (-)

Cnn Money:

More trouble at Tesla: The Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit against Tesla CEO Elon Musk
on Thursday accusing him of making "false and misleading" statements to investors.
The commission is asking a federal judge to prevent Musk from serving as an
officer or a director of a public company, among other penalties.
The complaint hinges on a tweet Musk sent on August 7 about taking Tesla private.
"Am considering taking Tesla private at $420," Musk wrote. "Funding secured."
The SEC said he had not actually secured the funding.
The lawsuit could prove costly for Tesla (TSLA). Shares in the company dropped 11% in premarket trading.

Ryanair strikes: Shares in Ryanair (RYAAY) swung between losses and gains
after the budget airline canceled 250 flights across Europe because of strikes.
The carrier already suffered this summer from a sharp rise in fuel costs and strikes by air traffic controllers and pilots.
Its shares are down around 12% since the start of the year.
Rival low-cost airline EasyJet (ESYJY) said Friday that it expects profits to rise this year,
noting that it has "benefited from Ryanair cancellations."

Shaky Italy:
Italian bond yields jumped Friday, suggesting investors are starting to worry more about the country's ability to pay its debts.
Italy's populist government agreed Thursday to put forward a budget proposal that would result in a much higher deficit than last year's,
putting it on course for a clash with the European Commission.
"Italy is bringing itself into a precarious position," said Holger Schmieding, chief economist at Berenberg.
"Because Italy's underlying fundamentals are shaky, it may not take much to trigger a major sell-off in Italian bond markets
that would weaken banks, tighten financing conditions and dampen economic growth further," he added.
The main stock index in Milan dropped more than 2% on Friday morning, significantly more than other major European markets.

Global market overview: US stock futures were flat early on Friday.
European markets opened lower, while markets in Asia closed mostly higher.
Earnings and economics: BlackBerry (BB) plans to release earnings before the open Friday.

Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) plunged 21% on Thursday after reporting poor same store sales.
At one point the shares were down as much as 25%, hitting an 18-year low.

DOW +18.38 Friday(-)

Cnn Money:

Tesla reaction: Shares in Tesla shot up as much as 15% premarket after Elon Musk agreed to step down
as chairman and pay a $20 million fine to settle a case brought last week by US regulators.
The US Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit against Musk last week, claiming he misled investors
by claiming he had secured funding to take Tesla (TSLA) private. Shares in the electric car-maker plunged 14% on Friday.
Musk, who remains CEO, neither admitted nor denied wrongdoing under the settlement announced on Saturday.
With the lawsuit settled, investors will turn their focus on whether the company can sustain and surpass its
long-promised target of building 5,000 Model 3s per week. A critical production report is due Tuesday.

Ryanair warning: Shares in Ryanair (RYAAY) opened 8% lower after the company issued a profit warning.
The discount carrier slashed its earnings guidance for the current fiscal year to between €1.1 billion ($1.27 billion)
and €1.2 billion ($1.39 billion), down from an earlier range of €1.25 billion ($1.45 billion) to €1.35 billion ($1.56 billion).

Ryanair said that strikes and flight cancellations in September had resulted in lower traffic and higher costs.
It warned that customer fears of further cancellations had led to reduced bookings, forcing the airline to cut fares in the third quarter.
The stock is down more than 20% in 2018.

Change at Goldman: Monday marks the end of an era at Goldman Sachs (GS),
with Lloyd Blankfein being replaced as CEO by David Solomon.
Solomon, who has served as the company's president and chief operating officer, comes in at a tricky time.
He will need to deal with lower revenue from Goldman's trading desk, which collects client fees to buy and sell bonds,
commodities and currencies.

NAFTA revamped: Canada agreed Sunday to sign on to a trade deal between the United States and Mexico,
revamping the three-country North American Free Trade Agreement after more than a year of tortuous negotiations.
The new deal will give US farmers greater access to Canada's dairy market and address concerns about potential US auto tariffs,
officials from both countries said.
The agreement with two of the United States' biggest trading partners fulfills President Donald Trump's campaign pledge to
renegotiate NAFTA and avoids his threat to exclude Canada if the talks failed.
The Canadian dollar and the Mexican peso were trading lower against the US dollar on Monday.

Global market overview: US stock futures were pointing higher.
European markets opened with gains.

Stocks in Asia were mixed.
Japan's Nikkei ended the session higher, while Korea's Kospi and India's Sensex were down.
Markets in China and Hong Kong were closed for a holiday.

Earnings and economics: Stitch Fix (SFIX) plans to release earnings after the close.

Cnn Money:

Google is losing its ad boss:
A rare leadership reshuffle at Google has put its massive advertising business under the control of a new executive.
Sridhar Ramaswamy is leaving Google to join Greylock Partners, the venture capital firm announced Monday. Prabhakar Raghavan
will replace him at the top of the search company's advertising business, according to multiple media reports.
A veteran of IBM (IBM) and Yahoo, Raghavan will now lead a business that generates tens of billions in sales each quarter.
Google (GOOGL) and Facebook (FB) gobbled up more than 60% of digital ad spending in the United States last year,
according to research firm eMarketer. That figure is expected to grow.

Pepsi turns the page: Pepsi's final earnings report under longtime CEO Indra Nooyi will be released before the open.
Nooyi will step down on Wednesday, but remain as chairwoman of the board of directors until early 2019.
The India-born executive will be succeeded by the company's global operations chief, Ramon Laguarta.
Sales grew 80% during Nooyi's 12-year tenure, and she spearheaded Pepsi's transition to a greener,
more environmentally aware company. But the stock could use a caffeine boost: It's down 7% this year.
Laguarta has served as president of Pepsi (PEP) since September 2017, overseeing global operations,
corporate strategy, public policy and government affairs. He is also an immigrant, having been born in Spain.

Tesla production deadline: Can Tesla navigate through its many controversies and still meet its sales targets?
We're about to find out.
Tesla is expected to report as soon as Tuesday how many cars it made in the third quarter
and how many it was actually able to deliver to customers.
Three months ago, investors and Tesla fans waited to see if the company
could hit its target of building 5,000 Model 3 cars in a week.
It just made that goal, building 5,031 in the last week of June.
Experts say the third quarter report is much more important to the company and its future.
Consistently hitting the production target is key to Tesla's ability to turn a profit and repay its debts.

Oil price surge: The price of Brent crude briefly ticked above $85 to its highest level in nearly four years,
sparking speculation that it could top $100 for the first time since 2014.

Recent price hikes have been driven by the November 4 deadline set
by the Trump administration for countries to halt purchases of Iranian crude.

US stock futures were lower.

European markets were off by less than 1% in early trading.
Asian markets ended mixed, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropping 2.5% as traders returned from a holiday.

Cnn Money:

Aston Martin IPO:
Aston Martin is joining the ranks of listed automakers with an IPO that values the British company at more than $5 billion.
The favorite carmaker of fictional British secret service agent James Bond has priced its shares at £19.00 ($24.70),
giving it a valuation of £4.3 billion ($5.6 billion).
The final share price is 16% below the top of the range that Aston Martin had targeted, reflecting investor doubts
about whether the carmaker should be valued in the same league as Italian rival Ferrari.
In going public, the British company is also asking investors to overcome fears about US threats to tax foreign autos
and the potential for Britain's planned exit from the European Union to disrupt supply chains and markets.
Shares dropped as much as 6.6% in early London trading on Wednesday.

Italian relief:
Italian bonds have recovered some ground after Italian media reported that the country's government is close
to agreeing a budget with smaller deficits than feared.
The euro strengthened 0.3% against the US dollar and the main stock market in Milan gained over 1%.
Italian bonds have suffered in recent months as the populist government appeared ready to clash with
the European Commission over plans to increase public borrowing.
Still, that doesn't mean investors can rest easy.
Analysts at Capital Economics warn that a prolonged period of higher bond yields still poses a risk to the country's banks.
"In that case, banks would probably have more trouble funding themselves in wholesale markets," the analysts wrote Wednesday.
"And the current government seems much less likely to step in and help struggling lenders than previous administrations."

Global market overview: US stock futures were edging higher.
European markets opened up, while stocks in Asia were lower. The Shanghai Composite was closed for a holiday.

Earnings and economics: Lennar (LEN) will release earnings before the open. Pier 1 Imports (PIR) will follow after the close.

Shares in Tesco (TSCDF) dropped 5% in London after the UK supermarket chain reported earnings that disappointed investors.
The mega retailer launched a new discount chain last month, called Jack, that could help it fend off competition from German discounters.

Turkish inflation reached 24.5% in September, according to new data. The lira slipped 1% against the dollar.

Cnn Money:

The race to driverless cars: SoftBank (SFTBF) and Toyota (TM) are forming a joint venture that will use
driverless-car technology to offer new services, such as mobile convenience stores
and delivery vehicles in which food is prepared en route.
SoftBank will own just over half of Monet, the new business, while Toyota will hold the rest.

It's the latest in a series of driverless development partnerships announced by tech companies and carmakers.
SoftBank's $100 billion Vision Fund, its tech-focused investment arm, had already committed $2.3 billion to
General Motors' self-driving car unit GM Cruise.

On Wednesday, Honda (HMC) and General Motors (GM) said they were teaming up to create a new generation
of fully autonomous vehicles. BMW (BMWYY) has joined the board of Apollo, an autonomous driving project
from Chinese internet firm Baidu (BIDU).

Facebook under investigation:
The Irish Data Protection Commission has launched a formal probe into a Facebook (FB) hack that affected as many as 50 million accounts.
The commission will investigate whether the company complied with its obligations under new European data protection laws that came into
effect in May. Facebook said last week that it closed the loophole, but 90 million users were forcefully logged out of their accounts as a precaution.
Irish regulators are investigating because Facebook's international headquarters is in Dublin.

There are still many unanswered questions about the hack: Who carried it out? And what were they trying to access?

3Bonds sell-off:
The yield on 10-year US Treasuries has spiked to the highest level in seven years following the release of positive economic data.
US hiring data published Wednesday was stronger than expected, and momentum could continue Thursday if initial claims numbers add
to the optimism. A strong US economy and the expectation of rate hikes by the Federal Reserve are fueling the trend.

"The underlying message is that the US economy isn't just in fine fettle, it's on fire," said Kit Juckes, strategist at Societe Generale.
CNN means business: On Thursday, CNNMoney becomes the all-new CNN Business, covering the companies, personalities,
and innovations driving business forward.

This new initiative will focus on the single biggest financial story of our generation:
how technology is upending every corner of the global economy, forcing businesses, workers,
and society itself to adapt rapidly, or be left behind.

Global market overview: US stock futures were lower.

European markets dropped in early trade following a negative trading session in Asia. The Shanghai Composite was closed for a holiday.
Earnings and economics: Constellation Brands (STZ) will release earnings before the open. Costco (COST) is set to follow after the close.

Shares in Danske Bank (DNKEY) opened 3% lower after the Danish lender said it had received requests for information from
the US Department of Justice in connection to its money laundering scandal.

DOW -200.91 Thursday (+)

Cnn Money:

Jobs, jobs, jobs: The US Labor Department will release its September jobs report...
Analysts expect employment growth was strong yet again.
Economists surveyed by Refinitiv predict the US economy added 185,000 net new jobs last month.
That would be only slightly less than the 194,200 average monthly gain over the past year.
The wage growth figure will be crucial. If it hits 3% for the first time since April 2009
it may unnerve investors worried about an overly aggressive Federal Reserve.

Samsung's bumper quarter: Samsung (SSNLF) announced Friday it expects to deliver the highest quarterly earnings ever.
The South Korean firm said its operating profits will reach as much as 17.6 trillion won ($15.6 billion) for the three months
ended in September. That's a jump of more than 20% from the same period a year earlier.
The world's largest smartphone maker will report full results at the end of the month.
Samsung shares ended the trading session unchanged on Friday. The stock has fallen about 12%
so far this year, weighed down by concerns about future demand for memory chips.

Trouble for China tech:
Shares in Chinese tech hardware makers took a hit after Bloomberg News reported that the Chinese military
hid tiny microchips in computer motherboards that were sold to major US companies including Amazon (AMZN)
and Apple (AAPL), allowing hackers to access any network that included the affected equipment.
Amazon and Apple both strenuously denied the report, which didn't link any Chinese tech companies
with the alleged infiltration. But in Hong Kong trading, computer maker Lenovo (LNVGF) plunged 15%
and telecom hardware maker ZTE (ZTCOF) sank 11%.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry didn't respond to a request for comment on Friday, which is a public holiday in the country.
The Shanghai Composite was closed.

US stock futures were pointing lower.
Markets in Europe and Asia were also down.
The Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 closed 0.8% lower on Thursday.
The Nasdaq plunged 1.8% and Netflix shed 3.6%.

Earnings and economics: A report on the US trade balance will be released at 8:30 a.m.
Unilever (UL) announced Friday it has given up on a plan to move its headquarters out
of the United Kingdom and use Rotterdam as its sole legal home.
Shares in the global consumer goods company dropped 0.7% in London after it said the change
"has not received support from a significant group of shareholders."

DOW -180.43 Friday (+)

Cnn Money:

China boosts lending: Chinese stocks dropped sharply Monday after China's central bank freed up 750 billion yuan
($109 billion) for new lending in an attempt to prop up economic growth.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite dropped 3.7% after being closed all last week for a public holiday.
The Chinese yuan slipped 0.4% against the US dollar.
The Chinese economy has lost momentum this year following government efforts to try to rein in high levels of debt.
It's also coming under pressure from US tariffs on more than $250 billion of Chinese exports.
Larry Hu, an economist at investment bank Macquarie, said the move by the central bank is "far
from enough to turn the economy around" because banks may still be reluctant to lend.
He said further stimulus was likely.

H&M's digital push: H&M (HNNMY) is teaming up with Swedish fintech company Klarna to step up its online game.
Critics say the Swedish retailer has been slow to embrace e-commerce, and weak sales in physical stores have
caused alarm recently.
H&M plans to apply Klarna's tech to payments made online, in stores and via mobile.
The partnership may also help simplify the delivery and returns process.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but H&M said it would take an equity investment in Klarna.

Global market overview: US stock futures were pointing lower. Markets in Europe and Asia suffered losses.
The VIX volatility index (VIX), which tracks short-term market turbulence, spiked 9%.

US oil futures dropped over 1% to $73.60 per barrel after media reports indicated that
the Trump administration is considering some waivers on Iran oil sanctions.

Companies and economics:
Shares in French Connection spiked 26% on Monday after the fashion retailer's board announced it was exploring a sale.

The British Chambers of Commerce released a survey of 5,600 companies that shows the "UK economy is stuck in a rut."
The lobby group said services firms are having the most trouble recruiting since the survey began in 1989.

German industrial production was much weaker than expected in September,
according to official data released Monday. Germany's DAX dropped 0.8%

DOW +39.73 Monday (-)

Cnn Money:

Google's big event: Google is holding its gadget event on Tuesday.

Hardware is a small part of Google's business, but Android and Google Assistant are crucial to the future of Alphabet, Google's parent company.
Google (GOOGL) is expected to debut a new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phone, more Google Home devices (perhaps a speaker with a screen) and showcase i
ts plans for mobile and voice software.
The event threatens to be overshadowed by other Google news.
On Monday, the company shuttered its long ailing social network Google+ for consumer use after it reportedly failed to disclose a security bug.

Microsoft bets on Grab: Microsoft is teaming up with the ride hailing and payment startup Grab.
As part of the deal, Grab will adopt Microsoft Azure as its preferred cloud platform.
In exchange, Microsoft (MSFT) will make a strategic investment in Grab.
The two companies did not reveal the size of the investment.
Grab is a key player in southeast Asia, where it recently bought out Uber's regional business.
Grab was valued at around $11 billion in August, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.

Trade war downgrade:
The International Monetary Fund has cut its economic growth forecasts for the United States and China as the countries clash over trade.
Despite healthy momentum in the United States, IMF economists now expect growth there to slow to 2.5% next year from 2.9% this year.
They cut the 2019 forecast by 0.2 percentage points because trade conflicts.
China's growth is now expected to drop to 6.2%, from 6.6% this year.
The new 2019 forecast is 0.2 percentage points lower than the fund's previous forecast,
reflecting the waves of new tariffs that have taken effect since then.
The more pessimistic forecast comes as the clash between Washington and Beijing
threatens to keep escalating and cause damage in other countries.

Global market overview: US stock futures were lower.
European markets opened higher following a mixed trading session in Asia.

Companies and economics: AZZ (AZZ) and Helen of Troy (HELE) will release earnings before the open.
Aviva (AVVIY) announced that Mark Wilson is stepping down as CEO.
Wilson led the UK insurance company through a transformation that included the £5.6 billion ($7.3 billion) purchase of rival Friends Life.
Mexico's inflation report will be released at 9 a.m. ET.
UK retail sales growth has slumped to the lowest in five months, according to the British Retail Consortium.
