DOW +9.23 Monday (+)

Cnn Money:

Oil slick: Political turmoil in the Middle East has driven crude oil prices to $57,
their highest level in more than two years.

Investor attention has focused on Saudi Arabia, where scores of princes,
high-profile businessmen and government officials were arrested over the
weekend in a crackdown on corruption.

The threat of conflict with Iran has also unnerved markets. Saudi is fighting a proxy war
with its regional rival in Yemen, and there have been signs of escalation in recent days.
"Conflicts within the Middle East are becoming a major influencer on energy markets,
and a further surge in [oil] prices will likely be due to political risk," said Hussein Sayed,
chief market strategist at trading platform FXTM.

Stock market movers --
Priceline, TripAdvisor, 21st Century Fox: Shares in Priceline Group (PCLN)
and competitor TripAdvisor (TRIP) were down 9% in premarket trading after
the companies released earnings on Monday.

21st Century Fox (FOX) stock could be volatile following reports that said the company
was recently in talks to sell key assets to Disney (DIS).
CNBC reported that the deal would have seen Fox selling its movie studio,
television production unit and entertainment networks to Disney.
Fox would keep its news and sports holdings and its broadcast network.
Several reports said the talks were no longer active,
but 21st Century Fox shares gained 10% on Monday.
21st Century Fox (FOXA) declined to comment. Disney (DIS) did not immediately
respond to a request for comment.

Earnings: Royal Caribbean (RCL), SeaWorld Entertainment (SEAS),
Coach parent company Tapestry (TPR) and Weibo (WB) are all reporting
quarterly earnings before the open.

Fossil (FOSL), Marriott (MAR), Planet Fitness (PLNT), Take-Two Interactive (TTWO),
Snap (SNAP) and Zillow (ZG) will follow after the close.

Shares in tobacco company Imperial Brands were trading higher
in London after the company gave a well-received quarterly update.

Toyota (TM) released earnings showing car sales increased in the first half of the fiscal year,
but operating profit declined because of higher expenses and marketing activities

U.S. stock futures were holding steady after the main indexes rallied to
new record highs on Monday.

European markets were mixed in early trading, but the moves were small.

Many Asian markets ended the day with solid gains.
The Nikkei was a standout performer, rising by 1.7%.

DOW +8.81 Tuesday (+)

Cnn Money:

The Trump rally:
It's been a full year since Americans picked Donald Trump to be their next president.
And it's been a fantastic 12 month for stocks: The S&P 500 has soared over 20% since Election Day in 2016,
its third-best performance during a president's first year since World War II, according to Sam Stovall of CFRA
Research. The Nasdaq and Dow have have gained roughly 30% over the same period.
Stocks have continued to power higher even though President Trump has struggled to move his legislative
agenda through Congress.
Will the rally continue? U.S. stock futures were flat on Wednesday.
Trump, who is in the middle of a lengthy tour of Asia, may face a tougher road ahead.
Democrats won races large and small in Tuesday's election, starting with the New Jersey
and Virginia governor's races.

Fox reports: 21st Century Fox (FOX) will release
its latest earnings after the closing bell on Wednesday.
The report comes at interesting time for Fox. Its shares jumped on Monday after a report
revealed the company had recently been in talks to sell most of its assets to Disney (DIS).
It's also sorting through a complicated deal in the U.K.,
where regulators are reviewing its proposed $15 billion takeover of Sky.
Sky warned on Tuesday that it could shut down Sky News if the deal is not approved.

Global market overview: European markets were mixed following a similar result in Asia.

The British pound fell against other major currencies as a series of controversies engulfed
Prime Minister Theresa May's fragile government.
The most urgent flap involves international development secretary Priti Patel and unauthorized
meetings that she held with Israeli officials.

In the U.S., the Dow Jones industrial average closed at a record high on Tuesday.
The Nasdaq dropped 0.3% while the S&P 500 was flat.

Earnings and economics: Cars.com (CARS), Energizer (ENR), Humana (HUM),
MGM Resorts (MGM), TEGNA (TGNA), Vitamin Shoppe (VSI), and Wendy's (WEN)
will release earnings before the open Wednesday.

CenturyLink (CTL), Papa Murphy's (FRSH), Roku (ROKU),
and Tribune Media (TRCO) will follow after the close.

Dow Futures currently off -7.00

Last couple of days, the Dow just managed slight gains,
taking a chance here considering how the Market has been rallying.

DOW: +6.13 Wednesday(-)

Cnn Money:

Retail trouble: Macy's (M) and Nordstrom (JWN) will report results on Thursday
and Wall Street is bracing for more signs of a retail apocalypse.
The department stores are likely to paint a gloomy picture about their busiest
and most critical time of the year.
Morgan Stanley recently warned that sales will outright decline during the holiday
quarter at both companies.
It's yet another sign that the rise of Amazon (AMZN, Tech30) and resurgence of
Walmart (WMT)have taken a toll on many traditional retailers.

Trump deals in China: U.S. and Chinese officials are touting more than $250 billion
in deals signed during President Trump's visit to China.
The agreements span energy, aviation and technology. However, a number of the
deals signed were only framework agreements, meaning the details are still up for negotiations.
Boeing (BA) and Qualcomm (QCOM, Tech30) have both announced deals during the trip.

AT&T and Time Warner: AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner (TWX) has hit a serious snag.
Negotiations between the companies and the U.S. Department of Justice have turned so
contentious that now both sides are arguing publicly over what the dispute is even about.
Both sides agree that there was a pivotal meeting on Monday between AT&T (T)
CEO Randall Stephenson and DOJ's antitrust chief Makan Delrahim.
The two men discussed asset sales that might satisfy the government's concerns,
but sources offer differing accounts of that conversation.
CNN, which is owned by Time Warner, is one of the assets that has been mentioned
in multiple reports.
"Throughout this process, I have never offered to sell CNN and have no intention of doing so,"
AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said in a statement on Wednesday.

Burberry falls: Shares in Burberry (BBRYF) fell more than 10% in London after the company
said it does not expect sales to increase until fiscal 2021.
CEO Marco Gobbetti also said that he wants to shift the fashion brand upmarket —
a change analysts say could be costly.
"The transition is bound to be painful," said Luca Solca, head of luxury goods
at Exane BNP Paribas.Burberry announced in late October that long-time creative
director Christopher Bailey would be leaving the company.

Global market overview:
U.S. stock futures were in negative territory.

European markets were mixed, following a similar session in Asia.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed at a new record high for a fifth day
in a row on Wednesday. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq also hit all-time highs.

Earnings and economics: Disney (DIS) will release its fourth quarter results
after the close. CEO Bob Iger warned in September that earnings could be flat this quarter.

Canada Goose (GOOS), DISH Network (DISH), Kohl's (KSS), Norwegian Cruise Line (
NCLH), Office Depot (ODP), Party City (PRTY), Time (TIME), and TransCanada (TRP)
will release earnings before the opening bell.

Franklin Covey (FC), Kona Grill (KONA), Lions Gate Entertainment (LGFA), News Corp.
(NWSA), Noodles & Co (NDLS) and NVIDIA (NVDA, Tech30) will follow after the close.

China inflation data came out slightly above expectations on Thursday,
with prices rising 1.9% over the previous year in October.

The European Commission will publish its Autumn European Economic Forecast.

DOW -101.42 Thursday (+)

Cnn Money:

Trump in Asia:
President Trump brought his hard-line economic nationalism to a meeting of Pacific Rim
leaders on Friday.

"We are not going to let the United States be taken advantage of anymore,"
Trump said at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Vietnam.

It's a familiar message from Trump, who earlier this year withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership
-- the landmark trade accord negotiated by the Obama administration.
The remaining 11 countries are trying to keep the gargantuan deal going even without the U.S.

Corporate tax cuts:
Senate Republicans on Thursday unveiled the substance of their tax reform bill, one week
after their House colleagues released their own legislation.
The bills contain significant differences that must be ironed out.
The Senate bill, for example, would reduce the corporate tax rate to 20%, but delay the
implementation of the lower rate until after December 2018.
The Dow Jones industrial average reacted to the news by dropping over 100 points.
Brexit talks: Another round of Brexit negotiations is underway in Brussels,
but little progress is expected.

Britain and the European Union remain at loggerheads over the divorce bill,
citizens' rights and what do do about the Irish border.
The two sides must make more progress on these issues before discussions pivot
to their future trade relationship.
Business groups warn they need more clarity -- and soon.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were lower.
Markets in Europe and Asia were mixed.

DOW -39.73 Friday (+)

Cnn Money:

Changes at GE:
General Electric will deliver a major update on its strategy on Monday.
John Flannery, the company's new CEO, is under pressure to restore
investor confidence in the face of a serious cash crunch.
GE has lost a third of its market value so far this year, making it
the biggest Dow loser by a long shot.
The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Flannery will announce plans
to focus on the company's three biggest business lines -- aviation, power
and health care.
That means the conglomerate could be looking to exit its other businesses,
including lighting and diesel trains.
GE (GE) shares were 1% higher in premarket trading.
Another possible announcement: GE could deliver just the second cut to
its coveted dividend since the Great Depression.

More trouble for May: The British pound was 0.5% lower against the dollar after a
turbulent weekend for Prime Minister Theresa May.
May, who leads an already fragile government, is under increased pressure
after two ministers left her cabinet. She reportedly also faces a rebellion from
other cabinet members over her plans
for Brexit.
Another problem: The Sunday Times reported that as many as 40 members of
parliament have agreed to sign a letter of no confidence in the prime minister.
The pound was trading just above $1.30, or 13% below the its position ahead
of the Brexit referendum in June 2016.

Oil in focus: Oil ministers from major energy producers are meeting this week
at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference.

OPEC and its allies agreed large scale production cuts a year ago,
in order to get rid of the world's oil glut and support prices.
They have extended the agreement until March 2018.

The question now is whether the cuts will be extended even further.

Global market overview:
U.S. stock futures were up.

European markets opened higher,
while markets in Asia finishing the session mixed.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed 0.2% lower on Friday,
pushing its loss for the week to 0.5%.
The index had posted gains in each of the eight previous weeks.

The S&P 500 shed 0.1% and the Nasdaq closed flat.

Company news: Mattel (MAT) was up more than 20% in extended trading
following reports rival Hasbro (HAS) had offered to buy the company.

Shares in British defense contractor Ultra Electronics dropped as much as 23%
after the company's CEO stepped down.

French energy firm EDF dropped 6% in Paris after cutting its profit forecast.

Tyson Foods (TSN) is set to release its earnings before the U.S. open,
while Famous Dave's (DAVE) will follow after the close.

DOW -30.23 Tuesday (-)

Cnn Money:

Aircraft deals: Airbus (EADSF) has signed a deal to sell 430 jetliners
to Indigo Partners, one of the largest orders in the history of commercial aviation.
The private equity buyer, which has set up ultra-low cost airlines around the world,
made the massive commitment for the single-aisle A320neo family airliners at the Dubai Air Show.
The jets will be spread out across Frontier Airlines in the U.S., Mexico's Volaris, Wizz Air of Hungary
and newcomer JetSmart of Chile.
Airbus shares jumped 3.3% in Paris.

Rival manufacturer Boeing (BA) quickly struck back, announcing an order from FlyDubai
for 737 MAX airplanes with a list price value of $27 billion.
The deal includes a commitment by the low-cost airline to buy 175 planes,
with options on a further 50.

Markets in the red:
Global markets slumped on Wednesday,
and U.S. stock futures were pointing to a negative open.
U.S. crude futures were trading 1% lower.

The CNNMoney Fear & Greed Index, which looks at volatility and six other key market barometers,
has moved from greed to neutral. The next stop could be fear.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed 0.1% lower on Tuesday,
while the S&P 500 dropped 0.2% and the Nasdaq shed 0.3%.

Japan's winning streak: Japan's economy grew 1.4% in the third quarter t
hanks to strong employment, solid domestic consumption and export growth.
The country has now posted seven straight quarters of expansion,
its longest period of uninterrupted growth since 2001.
The Japanese yen strengthened against major currencies.
It's not all good news: Economists warn the world's third biggest economy
might start running into capacity constraints. Japan's growth story has also
been overshadowed by a series of corporate scandals and low wage growth for workers.

Earnings and economics:
Target (TGT) plans to release earnings before the opening bell,
while Cisco Systems (CSCO, Tech30), Stein Mart (SMRT) and L Brands (LB)
will follow after the close.

The U.K.'s unemployment rate was just 4.3% in the three months to September.
But prices are rising faster than wages as the country negotiates its departure from the European Union.

DOW -138.19 Wednesday (+)

Cnn Money:

Tax bill crunch time: Republican efforts to make drastic changes to the U.S. tax code
are center stage in Washington.
It's a full court press: President Trump is expected to meet with congressional leaders,
and the House will start debate on its bill.

If successful, the tax overhaul would be the Republicans' first substantial legislative
victory under Trump.
The major question for investors is whether the House and Senate Republicans will be
able to reconcile their competing versions of the plan without losing votes.

One sign of trouble:
Sen. Ron Johnson became the first Republican to formally come out against his party's
plan on Wednesday.

Markets rebound: Global markets are swinging higher after several days of rough trading.

U.S. stock futures were up and European and Asian markets were higher.
Oil prices rebounded to gain 0.3%

Volkswagen goes electric: Shares in Volkswagen (VLKPY) opened 2% higher in Frankfurt
after the automaker announced plans to spend, together with a local partner, $12 billion
on electric cars in China.

China is Volkswagen's biggest single market. The company delivered 303,800 vehicles in
the country in October, an annual increase of 9.2%.

Stock market movers: Cisco Systems (CSCO) shares were higher in extended trading
after the company said it expects revenue to jump after two years of declines.

Earnings and economics: Best Buy (BBY), J.M. Smucker (SJM), Viacom (VIAB)
and Wal-Mart (WMT) will release their earnings before the open, while Gap (GPS),
Haynes Intl (HAYN) and Williams-Sonoma (WSM) will follow after the close.

The Bank of England is holding a forum in Liverpool. Officials will discus the state
of the U.K. economy and how the central bank's policies affect Britons.

Cnn Money:
Fox hunt: Shares in Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox (FOX) surged in extended trading
after it became clear the media giant has multiple suitors.
Comcast (CMCSA) and Verizon (VZ) have both held discussions about acquiring most of
the company, according to sources familiar with the talks.
One of the sources cautioned that discus
sions are at a "very early" stage, but that Murdoch seems genuinely motivated to sell.

Tesla surprises: What will investors think of this?
Tesla (TSLA) unveiled two electric vehicles on Thursday.
The first is an all-new version of its Roadster sports car that can go from a stop to 60 miles
an hour in 1.9 seconds. The $200,000 car will have a range of 620 miles and a top speed of
over 250 miles an hour.
The second is a new semi-truck, which CEO Elon Musk said can go zero-to-60 in five seconds
with an empty trailer. With a full load, the truck can still reach
that speed in 20 seconds, much faster than any diesel-powered truck.

Oil leak in U.S.: TransCanada (TRP) shares could take a hit after the firm
announced an oil leak from its Keystone Pipeline in Marshall County, South Dakota.
A total of 210,000 gallons of oil leaked out before crews shut down the pipeline
Thursday morning. The amount of leaked oil is equivalent to one-third of an Olympic swimming pool.
Officials are investigating the cause of the leak.
Nebraska officials are expected to announce a decision in the coming days
on whether the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline, a sister project, can move forward.

Global stock market overview: U.S. stock futures were lower after a stunning rally on Thursday.

Stocks soared thanks to strong quarterly results and healthy outlooks from Cisco Systems (CSCO)
and Walmart (WMT). A tax reform bill -- which has a long way to go -- was approved by the House.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose nearly 200 points to snap a two-day losing streak.
The S&P 500 added 0.8% and the Nasdaq jumped 1.3% to hit a record high.

European markets dipped in early trading on Friday.
Asian markets ended the day with mixed results.

Earnings and economics: Retailers Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF), Buckle (BKE)
and Foot Locker (FL) will release earnings before the opening bell on Friday.

Shares in Ross Stores (ROST) are expected to surge at the open after the company
reported better-than-expected quarterly numbers.

Dow Futures -28.00

Cnn Money:

Trouble in Berlin:
Germany's DAX was trading lower after Chancellor Angela Merkel's plans
to form a new government were thrown into disarray when a smaller party
walked out of talks.
Merkel, who was trying to form a majority government in the wake of
national elections in September, now faces a series of tough choices.
Her party could try again to form a coalition, or resort to a Merkel-led
minority government. Another possibility is for snap national elections early next year.
The economic impact is likely to be limited, however.
"The economy is in such good shape with 2.5% growth, strong business confidence,
full employment and a fiscal surplus that few major decisions need to be taken for the
time being," said Holger Schmieding, chief European economist at Berenberg Bank.

Brexit jobs losses:
The European Union will announce new host cities on Monday for two coveted agencies
that are leaving Britain because of Brexit.
The European Medicines Agency and the European Banking Authority, which employ roughly
1,000 people, had been based in London.
It's one of the first concrete examples of organizations and jobs leaving Britain
because of Brexit.

Markets in fear mode: The CNNMoney Fear & Greed Index has swung into "fear" territory.

The gauge of investor sentiment, which tracks volatility and six other key market barometers,
had been indicating "greed" for several weeks.
U.S. stock futures were pointing lower.
Still, It's been at least a decade since things were going this well for Wall Street.
The Nasdaq is up 26% this year, compared to a 15.5% jump for the S&P 500
and an 18% gain by the Dow.

Global market overview:
European stocks were mostly lower in early trading.
Asian markets ended mixed.

U.S. oil futures edged higher to trade around $56.80 per barrel.

Bitcoin has surged above $8,000, the latest in a series of milestones
to be topped by the digital currency. A year ago, Bitcoin was trading at around $740.

Earnings and economics: Urban Outfitters (URBN) will report earnings after the closing bell.

European Central Bank President Mario Draghi is speaking at 9:00 a.m. ET in Brussels.

DOW +72.09 Monday (-)

Cnn Money:
AT&T takeover trouble: Shares in AT&T (T, Tech30) and its takeover target,
Time Warner (TWX), could be on the move Tuesday after the U.S. Department
of Justice filed a lawsuit to block the $85 billion acquisition.
The DOJ argues that the deal violates antitrust law because AT&T would likely
"use its control of Time Warner's popular programming as a weapon to harm competition."
Time Warner is the parent company of CNN.
The government alleges that the deal "would result in fewer innovative offerings
and higher bills for American families."

AT&T had been preparing for a legal challenge. It immediately disputed the
government's claims on Monday and said it will fight the case in court.
David McAtee II, AT&T's general counsel, said in a statement:
"Today's DOJ lawsuit is a radical and inexplicable departure from decades
of antitrust precedent. Vertical mergers like this one are routinely approved
because they benefit consumers without removing any competitor from the market.
We see no legitimate reason for our merger to be treated differently."
AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson also sharply criticized the DOJ's decision.
"I've done a lot of deals in my career, but I've never done one where we have
disagreed with the Department of Justice so much on even the most basic of facts,"
Stephenson said Monday. "The rule of law is at issue here."

Fed focus:
The outgoing head of the Federal Reserve, Janet Yellen, is set to speak at
New York University on Tuesday.
Yellen told President Trump in a letter on Monday that she will step down
from the Fed's Board of Governors when her successor is sworn in as Fed chair.
Trump recently selected Jerome Powell for the top job instead of nominating Yellen
for a second term.

Stocks in the spotlight -- CBS, Dish, easyJet, Tencent: Investors will be monitoring
a public spat between CBS (CBS) and Dish Network (DISH).
CBS warned Dish customers Monday of a blackout that could deprive viewers of NFL
and college football games over Thanksgiving.
CBS said that "unless agreements are reached,
" Dish viewers should be prepared to lose the network starting Monday at 11:59 p.m., MT.
The two sides have been sparring over fees CBS wants from Dish for retransmission.
Dish responded by telling customers, "we are actively working to reach a fair deal before
the contract expires knowing that only CBS can force a blackout of its channels."

Shares in easyJet (ESYJY) were 5% higher in London trading as investors cheered the
latest financial results from the budget airline.

Chinese social media giant Tencent (TCEHY) is garnering attention after
the firm's shares shot up by about 2%. The company's market valuation has
now eclipsed that of Facebook (FB).

Earnings:
Campbell Soup (CPB), Cracker Barrel (CBRL), Dollar Tree (DLTR), Lowe's (LOW)
and Signet Jewelers (SIG) will report earnings ahead of the opening bell.

Salesforce (CRM), HP (HPIL) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) are among
the companies reporting after the close.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were little changed.
The main indexes posted gains on Monday, and are within spitting distance
of record highs set earlier this month.

European markets were quiet in early trading.

Asian markets ended the day with gains. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index performed
especially well with a 1.9% gain.

DOW Market Closed for Thanksgiving

Cnn Money:

Black Friday: U.S. stock markets will close early on Friday,
but retailers are hoping that shoppers go all day and night.
Shoppers are expected to spend more than ever before during the coming weeks --
an average of $967 each, according to the National Retail Federation.
That's up 3% from last year.
But it's the first time that Americans plan to shop more online than in big box stores
like Walmart (WMT) or Target.

It's been a terrible year for traditional retailers so far.
Store closings have more than tripled to a record 6,700 and several prominent retailers
such as Toys R Us, Gymboree, Payless Shoes and RadioShack have filed for bankruptcy.

German politics: Europe's top economy may be closer to forming its next government.
According to reports in German media, the opposition party SPD say it's now open to
coalition talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Merkel has struggled to form a government since her election victory in late September --
and some fear another election could be required.
Meanwhile, a key measure of business confidence published by Germany's IFO hit a record
high in November. A survey of Eurozone purchasing managers released Wednesday
showed a sharp jump in business confidence and hiring at its highest level in 17 years.
Investors cheered the news. Germany's DAX jumped 0.2%
and the euro gained against major currencies.

Oil nears $60: U.S. crude gained more than 1% Friday to trade at $58.50,
its highest level in 29 months.
Prices have increased this week after the Keystone pipeline was disrupted.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were edging higher on Friday,
but trade quickly: Markets close at 1:00 p.m. ET.

European markets opened mixed. Most Asian markets posted gains.

Stock market movers:
Shares in Mitsubishi Materials plunged as much as 11% in Tokyo after the firm
came clean about faking quality data on parts used in aircraft and cars.
The practice stretched back a year.

DOW +31.81 Friday (+)

Cnn Money:

Cyber Monday: U.S. retailers are hoping for a major splurge on Cyber Monday.

The online shopping bonanza is expected to bring in as much as $6 billion,
according to Adobe Digital Insights, which tracks online spending at America's
100 largest retail websites.
Digital sales have been strong this holiday shopping season:
American shoppers spent a record $5 billion online in 24 hours on Black Friday,
a 16.9% increase over last year, according Adobe Digital Insights.
The performance is welcome news for embattled retailers who were having a dismal 2017.
Store closings have more than tripled this year to a record 6,700.

Dollar under pressure:
The U.S. dollar was trading lower against major currencies on Monday.
Investors are looking ahead to a U.S. Senate vote that could come later
this week on tax reform.
If the legislation gets through the Senate, it will have to be reconciled
with the bill the House passed earlier this month.
That process could be messy, and progress could stall.
"The dollar would get a bit of a lift from anything that convinced markets
that a growth-supportive package was really likely but more muddle seems more probable,"
said Kit Juckes, a strategist at Societe Generale.
The dollar suffered its biggest fall on Monday against the euro, which got a boost from strong
eurozone economic data and signs that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is making progress in
forming a government.

Time's new owners:
Media firm Meredith (MDP) has agreed to buy the publisher Time Inc. (TIME)
for $2.8 billion.
Acquiring the legendary magazine business gives Meredith control of dozens
of big titles such as People, Sports Illustrated, Fortune and Entertainment Weekly.
Meredith already publishes several top magazines, including Parents, Shape
and Better Homes & Gardens.

Cnn Money:

Fed chair confirmation hearing: President Trump's nominee to lead the Federal Reserve,
Jerome Powell, goes before the Senate Banking committee on Tuesday.
Powell would be the first investment banker to lead the Fed, as well as
the first non-economist to take the helm in decades.
Analysts don't expect Powell to make any major shifts in monetary policy,
but he may loosen some regulations set in place after the financial crisis.
The confirmation process is expected to be smooth by Washington standards.

Oil down: U.S. crude futures added to their weekly losses, sliding another 0.9% on Tuesday.
TransCanada (TRP) said its Keystone Pipeline will resume deliveries on Tuesday following
a disruption caused by a leak. The pipeline is a key artery that carries crude into the
United States from Alberta.

Investors are likely to look ahead to an OPEC meeting scheduled for Thursday.
The key question is whether the cartel and allies including Russia will extend production
cuts beyond March.
It's been a year since the initial production cut agreement, and there are signs that the
global oil glut is disappearing.

British banks: The Bank of England has given the country's banks a clean bill
of health in new stress tests.
The central bank said that Britain's banking sector is "resilient" and could
"support the real economy through a disorderly Brexit."

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were flat.

European markets opened mostly higher,
while Asian markets ended their session mixed.

DOW +255.93 Tuesday (+)

Cnn Money:

Markets soar: U.S. markets had the best day since mid-September on Tuesday.
Investors were upbeat about the progress in the Senate on tax cuts,
and a strong performance by Federal Reserve nominee Jerome Powell
in his confirmation hearing.

The Dow Jones industrial average soared 1.1% on Tuesday, reaching a new record.
The S&P 500 added 1% and the Nasdaq gained 0.5%.

The pound's wild ride: The pound surged to its highest level against the dollar
in two months on reports that Britain and the EU are poised to agree a divorce bill.
Kit Juckes, a strategist at Societe Generale, described the reports as
"good news but not game-changing."
Next week will be key: Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to ask
the EU to certify that "sufficient progress" has been made on the financial
settlement, citizens' rights and the Irish border.
Only the can the two sides start negotiating their future trading
"Agreeing a way forward on the border between the Irish Republic
and the U.K. is a bigger challenge at this point, and still stands
in the way of moving on to the next stage of negotiations," said Juckes.

Bitcoin hits $10,000: Bitcoin (XBT) powered past $10,000 for the first time
on Wednesday. The virtual currency has seen a jaw-dropping rally of more than
900% since the start of the year.
Experts say that the gains in recent weeks have been driven by the expectation
that more major investors -- like hedge funds and asset managers -- are gearing
up to start investing in the digital currency.
However, some analysts are warning the rally is showing signs of a bubble.

Tiffany & Co. reports: Tiffany (TIF) will release its third quarter earnings...
The jeweler got a new CEO earlier this year, and has tried to lure shoppers with
a new luxury home collection and its first in-store cafe.
Investors are waiting to hear whether those efforts have started to bring
young people into stores. The stock is up over 20% since the start of 2017.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were flat.
European markets opened mostly higher, while markets in Asia
ending the trading session mixed.
U.S. crude futures slipped 0.5% ahead of a crucial OPEC meeting on Thursday.

Companies and economics: Royal Bank of Canada (RY) will release its earnings
report before the open, while Jack In The Box (JACK) and La-Z-Boy (LZB) are
set to report after the close.

Shares in the London Stock Exchange Group dropped 2% after it announced
that CEO Xavier Rolet has agreed to step down after a power struggle at
the top of the company.

DOW +103.97Wednesday (+)

Cnn Money:

Oil decision day: OPEC and other major crude producers are gathered in Vienna
to discuss whether to extend production cuts designed to rid the world of excess oil.
The curbs were first agreed a year ago by countries including Russia and are set to
expire in March 2018.
There are signs that the giant supply glut is starting to disappear,
but an extension -- possibly to the end of 2018 -- could help cement the trend.
U.S. crude futures were trading 0.4% higher at $57.50 per barrel.

U.S. tax progress: A final vote on the Senate tax bill is expected late Thursday
or Friday.
Republicans are racing to approve the measure, which survived a procedural vote
on Wednesday that allows debate to begin.

The House and Senate tax bills still contain major differences.
It's not clear whether the competing versions of the plan can be reconciled
without losing votes.

Bitcoin madness: The virtual currency hit a record of $11,350 on Wednesday,
then nosedived more than 18% to below $9,300 after two major exchanges
said they were struggling with a huge spike in traffic. By early Thursday,
t had recovered to trade around $10,400.
Some analysts are warnings of a Bitcoin (XBT) bubble, while others attribute
the gains in recent weeks to the expectation that more major investors will
soon join the rush.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were edging higher.
Asian markets ended the session lower. European markets were mixed in early trading,
with the FTSE 100 dropping by 0.4%.

The pound gained 0.4% against the dollar amid growing expectations that the U.K.
will be able to reach an agreement on its financial settlement with the EU.
Earnings and economics: Barnes and Noble (BKS) and Kroger (KR) will release
earnings before the open.

Kroger reported sluggish sales growth and a slight drop in profits last quarter,
sending its stock down on fears that it is losing the grocery stores war to Amazon
(AMZN) and Walmart (WMT).

Manufacturing PMI came out slightly above expectations in China, a positive
signal for the world's second biggest economy.

DOW +331.67 Thursday (+)

Cnn Money:

Dow hits 24,000:
The Dow Jones industrial average closed above 24,000 on Thursday,
smashing yet another milestone.
Reminder: The index first hit 23,000 barely a month ago.
The Dow has spiked nearly 6,000 points since President Trump was elected.
It has notched 80 daily records over the period.
The S&P 500 added 0.8% and the Nasdaq gained 0.7% on Thursday.
Both are near record highs.

Friday could be more restrained:
U.S. stock futures were pointing lower.

Tax bill hurdle:
The dollar is under pressure after U.S. tax reform hit a snag in the Senate.

Senate Republicans had hoped their tax bill would easily win approval this week,
but there are now concerns over its cost.
Sen. Bob Corker, a Republican from Tennessee, has made clear that he will not vote
for a tax bill that increases the deficit.
The problem: A new analysis shows the bill would add more than $1 trillion
to the federal budget deficit over the next decade.
Republicans, who had been on track to pass the bill along party lines,
are now considering whether to include future tax increases.

Oil up:
U.S. crude futures were trading 0.5% higher at $57.70 per barrel.
The gain comes after OPEC and other major oil producers including Russia
agreed to extend their production cuts until the end of 2018.

OPEC and its allies first agreed to slash output in late 2016,
a response to oversupply and an oil price crash.
There are signs that the global oil glut is now shrinking.

Global market overview: European markets opened lower,
while Asian markets ended the session mixed.

Bitcoin (XBT) continued its wild ride,
swinging as high as $10,050 and as low as $9,400.

Gold reversed some of its weekly losses, edging 0.2% higher.

Earnings and economics: Big Lots (BIG) will release earnings before the U.S. open.

Canada will release third quarter GDP and November unemployment data at 8:30 a.m.

DOW -40.76Friday (+)

Cnn Money:

Massive pharma deal: CVS Health (CVS) is buying Aetna (AET)in the largest health insurance
deal in history.
The $69 billion acquisition -- $77 billion including debt -- would drastically remap the health care industry.
CVS is a major drugstore chain and prescription drug insurer, while Aetna is one of the nation's largest health
insurers.
Buying Aetna puts CVS in a better position to compete with other integrated health care providers,
such as UnitedHealthcare (UNH) and pharmacy benefits manager Optum.
The acquisition is not a done deal. It will have to be approved by antitrust regulators, who have been
skeptical of similar health care mergers.
Aetna shares were higher ahead of the open. CVS shares were sharply lower.

Brexit crunch lunch: British Prime Minister Theresa May will meet European leaders Jean-Claude Juncker
and Donald Tusk for lunch in Brussels.
The meeting could be a crucial turning point in Brexit talks.
May is hoping that the European Union will soon certify that "sufficient progress" has been made on three
key issues: The Irish border, citizens' rights and a financial settlement.
If a breakthrough is achieved, Britain will be able to start work on the hundreds of trade, regulatory and
legal agreements that are needed to ensure its economy can avoid significant disruption after March 2019.

Tax plan: The U.S. dollar has strengthened after the Senate
passed a sweeping tax overhaul bill early on Saturday.
Just one Republican, Bob Corker of Tennessee, voted against it on deficit concerns.
However, the Senate bill differs from the tax bill passed by the House in mid-November.
Those differences now must be reconciled and a final piece of legislation voted on by both chambers.

Wall Street is betting that companies will use spare cash from the tax cuts to purchase boatloads of stock
and beef up their dividends.
Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were higher.

European markets posted gains in early trade,
while Asian markets ended the session mixed.

The dollar added 0.3% against a basket of major currencies.
U.S. crude oil futures dropped 1% to dip below $58 per barrel.
