Brexit crunch:
The Bank of England will give its latest update on the state of the U.K. economy on Thursday
and decide what to do about interest rates.
The central bank is in a bind. Inflation is racing ahead and unemployment levels are at record lows.
But prices are rising much faster than wages, and the economy is slowing, hurt by anxiety among
businesses and consumers over the impact of Brexit.
John Lewis, one of the country's leading department store chains, said Thursday its first half profits
halved because of weaker consumer demand and the fall in the value of the pound.
Most analysts expect the bank to keep interest rates at record low levels when it announces its decision
at 7 a.m. ET. But the devil is in the detail: investors will be paying close attention to the number of officials
voting for the first hike in a decade.

Tesla's new truck: Tesla is set to unveil its new semi-truck next month,
CEO Elon Musk said. The new Tesla Semi will do a test ride on October 26.
"Worth seeing this beast in person," Musk tweeted late Wednesday. "It's unreal."
The launch date is a bit later than Musk had suggested earlier this year.
In April, he said Tesla (TSLA), which has missed self-imposed deadlines in the past,
would reveal the battery-powered truck in September.

Trump blocks China tech deal: President Trump on Wednesday stopped the takeover of American
chip maker Lattice Semiconductors by a private equity firm with ties to China.
The deal was blocked over national security concerns, including "the potential transfer of intellectual property."
The Trump administration launched an investigation last month into whether China is unfairly getting hold of
American technology and intellectual property.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were edging lower early on Thursday.
European markets opened mostly lower, while Asian markets ended the session mixed.

Stock market movers: Equifax (EFX) was down almost 2% in extended trading, after slumping 14.6% on Wednesday.
The company is facing mounting criticism for the way it has handled a huge data breach, which compromised the
personal information of as many as 143 million Americans.

Earnings and economics: Oracle (ORCL) is set to release its latest earnings report after the close on Thursday.

North Korea: In a major show of defiance, North Korea fired a ballistic
missile over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido on Friday.
The launch is the second to fly over Japan in less than a month,
and the first since North Korea's sixth nuclear test and new United Nations
sanctions on the country.
An emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council has been called for Friday.
Investors have been paying close attention to the crisis, but market reaction to
the latest launch was relatively muted.
The Shanghai Composite lost ground, but major stock indexes in South Korea
and Japan posted gains. The Japanese yen, often considered a safe haven,
dropped against other major currencies.

European markets opened in negative territory,
with London's FTSE 100 shedding 0.3%.

U.S. stock futures were lower.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 hits stores: Samsung (SSNLF) is determined to shake
last year's fiery Note 7 debacle with the new Galaxy Note 8.
The $929.99 smartphone will hit stores on Friday.
Although the Galaxy Note 8 will offer new camera and photo editing tools, Samsung
is focusing on build quality rather than novelty with this model.
It's part of Samsung's mission to regain customer trust after it was forced to pull the
Galaxy Note 7. The recall cost the company more than $5 billion.

SoftBank eyes Uber: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that SoftBank(SFTBF)
is nearing a deal to invest as much as $10 billion in Uber.

The Japanese firm is seeking to buy a 17% to 22% stake in Uber at a steep discount,
according to the newspaper.

DOW +64.86 Friday (+)

CnnMoney

Records keep rolling in: U.S. markets can't be held back.
American stock futures were pushing higher on Monday after every major index hit all-time highs on Friday.
The Dow Jones industrial average looks set to notch a seventh day of gains on Monday, and the S&P 500 is
set to push further above its Friday close of 2,500 points.
CNNMoney's Fear & Greed Index, which tracks seven indicators of market sentiment, is now in "extreme greed" territory.
Big tech stocks continue to lead the way, despite the fact that many industry leaders are at odds with President Trump
regarding his stance on immigration, climate change and other policies.

Lindsey Bell, an investment strategist with CFRA, wrote last week that investors are sticking with tech stocks because
gridlock in Washington shouldn't affect businesses like Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Facebook (FB) and Amazon (AMZN).
Looking further afield, nearly all European markets were posting healthy gains in early trading.
Most Asian markets ended the day in positive territory.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index shot up by 1.2%.

In commodities, crude oil futures are also rising by nearly 1% to trade above $50 per barrel.
Market turbulence: Shares in European airline Ryanair (RYAAY) are dropping by 3% on the Irish Stock Exchange
after the company announced it would cancel up to 50 flights per day over the next six weeks.

It said it was canceling less than 2% of its schedule to improve flight punctuality and ensure pilots
and cabin crew are able to use their vacation days.

Bitcoin bump: Bitcoin prices are surging on Monday after tanking late last week.
One bitcoin is now worth nearly $4,000, up about 33% since last week's low, according to data
from digital currency website CoinDesk.
Two of China's most prominent bitcoin exchanges, BTC China and Via BTC said Thursday they
would halt trading this month, sending the price of the virtual currency crashing.

DOW +63.01 Monday (+)

CnnMoney

Waning momentum?: Stock markets are looking flat after a record setting run in recent days.
The Dow Jones industrial average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all hit record high levels on Monday.
But U.S. stock futures were holding steady ahead of the open, and trading in European markets
was relatively muted.

Most Asian markets ended the day in negative territory.
Japan's Nikkei index bucked the trend with a gain of 2%,
closing at its highest level in over two years.
Japanese exporters have been helped by a fall in the value of the yen.
No time for toys: Toys 'R' Us is filing for bankruptcy and that's causing
a domino effect among toy makers.

Shares of Hasbro (HAS), Mattel (MAT) and Jakks Pacific (JAKK) took big tumbles on Monday
as investors anticipated the bankruptcy filing that came late in the day.
The three toy makers each generated nearly 10% of their sales from
Toys 'R' Us in their most recent fiscal years.

What to watch -- Trump, Equifax, Federal Reserve: President Trump is expected to address the United Nation's
General Assembly around 10:30 a.m. ET. Wall Street will be watching for any market-moving comments.
Investors will be watching Equifax (EFX) again. Shares are slated to drop by another 3% at the open as investors
worry about continued fallout from a huge data breach at the firm.
Equifax shares have dropped 34% since the breach was revealed earlier this month.

And the Federal Reserve is beginning two days of meetings on Tuesday to discuss monetary policy.
Markets will have to wait until Wednesday for announcements on interest rates and what the Fed plans
to do with the vast stock of Treasuries and other securities it bought to spur the economy
since the global financial crisis.

Earnings: Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) and FedEx (FDX) are the main firms that Wall Street will be watching
on Tuesday as they plan to release earnings after the closing bell.

FedEx was hit by a massive malware attack in late June, along with many other firms.
FedEx warned that operations at its TNT Express subsidiary were disrupted and the financial impact "could be material."

In Europe, Norway's giant sovereign wealth fund announced Tuesday that its investments are now worth $1 trillion.
The government pension fund invests the country's oil wealth for future generations.
Big merger in doubt?: An activist investor has built up a 15% stake in Switzerland's chemical firm Clariant (CLZNY)
and is vowing to fight its planned $20 billion merger with Huntsman (HUN), another chemical specialist.

White Tale Holdings, an investment partnership created by hedge funds Corvex and 40 North, has written to Clariant's
board, urging them to rethink the deal.

The central bank will announce its latest interest rate decision at 2pm(Eastern),

The Mexican peso is holding steady following the 7.1-magnitude quake.

Market movers: Shares in Adobe Systems (ADBE) and Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) are set to drop
at the open after the companies reported disappointing results.

Talk of a merger between Sprint (S) and T-Mobile (TMUS) has investors calling their brokers.

and the upward momentum could continue on Wednesday.

Gun shares shoot up: Gun stocks could be on the move following a news report that said President Trump
plans to ease firearm export regulations.
Shares in Sturm Ruger (RGR) rose by 13.7% on Tuesday. American Outdoor Brands (AOBC), previously

overseas.

U.S. stock futures are stuck in neutral after all three key indexes hit new records on Tuesday.

European market moves were muted in early trading.

Techies splash cash: Google announced Thursday it's paying $1.1 billion to get its hands
on smartphone expertise from struggling Taiwanese manufacturer HTC.
Under the deal, Google (GOOG) will bring on board about 2,000 HTC engineers and technical staff.
It will also license some of the Taiwanese firm's intellectual property in a separate agreement.

Google said the move shows its commitment to developing smartphones and other devices.
Elsewhere in tech, Apple (AAPL) and Dell are part of a group that is buying Toshiba's (TOSYY)
prized memory chip business for $18 billion.
The Japanese conglomerate is offloading major assets
to try to deal with a crippling financial crisis.
The memory chip business is its crown jewel, and had
attracted interest from tech companies like Taiwan's Foxconn.

Banking on insurance:
Chinese life insurance firm AIA Group is getting into Australia and New Zealand in a big way.
It's buying Commonwealth Bank of Australia's life insurance business for $3 billion.

Stock market overview:
The Dow Jones industrial average and S&P 500 hit all-time highs on Wednesday.
The Dow has posted gains in each of the past nine trading sessions.
But momentum may be fading -- U.S. stock futures were weak on Thursday.

European stock markets climbed in early trading, though the gains were small.
Most Asian markets ended the day with losses.

Stocks to watch -- Ryanair, Manchester United: Shares in budget airline Ryanair (RYAAY) dropped
by 3% on the Irish Stock Exchange as investors worry about flight cancellations.
The airline recently announced it would cancel up to 50 flights per day over the next six weeks.
It said it was canceling less than 2% of its schedule to improve flight punctuality and ensure pilots
and cabin crew are able to use their vacation days.

Manchester United (MANU) will report earnings before the opening bell in New York.
Shares in the soccer team are traded in the U.S.

iPhone 8 hits stores:
Two new iPhones go on sale in Apple (AAPL) stores around the world today.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus got less attention than the flashy tenth anniversary iPhone X when
they were unveiled last week. But both versions of the 8 come equipped with wireless charging
and new cameras, and will get to customers much sooner than the X, which
won't start shipping until Nov. 3.
Some analysts have suggested the later delivery for the iPhone X could mean Apple won't see
a spike in iPhone sales until 2018.
Apple's annual sales declined in 2016 for the first time since 2001.

It's all politics: The U.K. and Germany are in the spotlight Friday
as British Prime Minister Theresa May is set to give a high-profile speech
about Brexit and German Chancellor Angela Merkel heads into a Sunday election.

May will try to get faltering Brexit negotiations back on track on Friday as she makes a speech in Florence, Italy.
She is likely to commit Britain to continue paying into the European Union budget in return for continued access
to its free trade area for two years after Brexit, according to multiple British media reports.

Meanwhile, Merkel is expected to wrap up campaigning. Opinion polls show she is on track to win a fourth term.

Eyes on oil: OPEC oil ministers meet in Vienna with some of their counterparts from non-OPEC oil producers.
They are meeting to decide whether to extend an agreement to curb production -- which is due to expire in
March 2018 -- or to sit tight to see what happens to oil prices in the coming months.
U.S. crude futures are currently trading around $50 per barrel.

Stock market overview: The enthusiasm that helped markets set records this week has drained away.
U.S. stock futures were slipping lower, and European markets were mostly negative in early trading.

Most Asian markets ended the day with losses after North Korea warned Thursday that the country
could test a powerful nuclear weapon over the Pacific Ocean in response to President Trump's threats
of military action.

Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho told reporters that the ultimate decision,
however, was up to his boss, Kim Jong Un.

DOW -11.77 Tuesday (-)

(CNBC)
U.S. stocks closed narrowly mixed Tuesday as technology stocks recovered some of their losses.
The Dow Jones industrial average closed nearly 12 points lower at 22,284.32 in its first four-day losing streak since June 23.
McDonald's had the greatest negative impact on the index, while Apple had the greatest positive impact.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite was the best performer, shaking off a nearly 1 percent decline
in the iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (IBB) and rising 0.15 percent to 6,380.16.

Information technology closed up 0.4 percent to lead three S&P 500 advancers,
while telecommunications was the greatest laggard.
The benchmark index closed less than 0.2 points higher at 2,496.84.

"Investors are being a little more cautious, some profit-taking going on, and also wanting to see if the
president can get the Affordable Care Act repealed and [enact] any tax reform," said Quincy Krosby, chief market strategist
at Prudential Financial. But, she said, investors may show little conviction on stocks until earnings season.

DOW +56.39 Wednesday(-)

CnnMoney

U.S. stocks rose on Wednesday, with the Dow industrials ending a four-day losing streak
and the small-cap Russell 2000 notching a record close as President Donald Trump and
congressional Republicans touted a sweeping tax overhaul.
Republican leaders unveiled a plan to overhaul the U.S. tax code that looks to sharply
reduce tax rates on businesses and many individuals. One of the reasons markets have risen
throughout 2017 is the prospect of tax reform passing, which is expected to be a tailwind for markets.
However, the Republican-controlled Congress was unable to pass health-care reform despite several attempts
and versions, and it is unclear how likely it was that tax-reform could be passed.

Also, Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen on Tuesday said the central bank won’t dawdle with raising
interest rates. The news was positive for banks, which typically do better in periods of higher rates,
due to the positive impact they have on net interest margins.
However, St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said the economy was likely to remain on a slow-growth
track with subdued inflation, meaning the Federal Reserve can hold interest rates steady.

DOW +40.49 Thursday(-)

CnnMoney

U.S. stock benchmarks posted slight gains on Thursday, but the advance was enough to record a trio of all-time highs
for three closely followed benchmarks: the Russell 2000, Dow transports and the S&P 500.
The Trump administration’s tax-overhaul proposal continued to fuel some buying appetite for equities.

What’s driving the market?
Talk of lower taxes and other proposed changes to tax policy were seen as key drivers.
However, not everyone on Wall Street is banking on legislation happening soon.
In a CNBC interview on Thursday, and later at a news conference,
top White House economic adviser Gary Cohn extolled the virtues of the tax plan.

What are market participants saying?
“We shall wait and see how Trump’s plans evolve into legislation,”
said Deutsche Bank’s strategist Jim Reid in a note on Thursday.
“Our U.S. team’s early take is that they see a prospect of some reforms occurring at the corporate level
(particularly for small corporates), but the potential for substantive reform of personal tax is much lower.”

What are the data?
The latest economic data painted a mixed picture of the economy.
Jobless claims rose by 12,000 in the latest week, although this spike was tied to Hurricanes Irma and Harvey,
which devastated Florida and parts of Texas.
Separately, a read on second-quarter economic growth was raised to 3.1% from 3%.

CNN MONEY:

Mass shooting in Vegas:
At least 50 people were killed in a shooting outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino
on the Las Vegas Strip during a music festival on Sunday night.
Shots were being fired from the 32nd floor of the resort, according to police.
MGM Resorts International (MGM), the owner of Mandalay Bay, dropped 3.7% in premarket trading.
Wynn Resorts (WYNN), another casino operator in Las Vegas, was off by nearly 1.2%.

Crisis in Catalonia:
Markets are sorting through the aftermath of a contested independence referendum in Catalonia
that was marred by violence on Sunday.
The euro dropped 0.7% against the dollar, and the yields on Spanish 10-year bonds increased.
The main stock market in Madrid opened 1.4% lower before trimming its losses.
The referendum was not recognized by Spain's national government,
which sought to stop the vote.
Hundreds were injured when riot police raided polling stations.

Monarch collapse: Britain is rushing to help more than 100,000 travelers get back home after the
collapse of the Monarch airline on Sunday.
It's the country's largest-ever airline collapse, with the aviation authority estimating that around
300,000 future bookings have been canceled.
British transportation authorities said they are chartering more than 30 planes for the repatriation flights,
creating "a temporary airline from scratch."
Shares in Monarch's biggest competitors rallied on the news of its demise.
Budget carrier EasyJet (ESYJY) gained over 4%, while Ryanair (RYAAY) added 2.6%.

Brexit disagreements: The British pound dropped 0.7% against the dollar amid another round
of infighting in the governing Conservative Party.
Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, who campaigned in favor of Brexit,
appeared to publicly undermine Prime Minister Theresa May's plan for a transition period.
The British Chambers of Commerce urged the government to "demonstrate competence and coherence
-- not division and disorganization."
"Public disagreements between cabinet ministers in recent weeks have only served to undermine business confidence,
not just on Brexit negotiations, but also on the many issues where firms need to see clear action from government closer
to home," BCC Director General Adam Marshall said in a statement.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were higher ahead of the open.
Most European markets were in positive territory, and Asian indexes posted gains.
Markets in China are closed this week.

CNN Money

Equifax in the hot seat: Equifax (EFX) will be on Capitol Hill on Tuesday
for the first of three consecutive days of hearings over its massive security breach.
It promised to be a public flogging: The credit reporting firm revealed Monday that
an additional 2.5 million Americans may have been affected by the hack, bringing the
total number to 145.5 million.
Equifax said last week that it's investigating three executives who sold shares worth nearly
$2 million shortly after the massive data breach was discovered, but before it was revealed to the public.

Wells Fargo hearing: Wells Fargo (WFC) will also face lawmakers on Tuesday.
CEO Tim Sloan plans to tell Congress that management failed to take decisive action to head off
the scandal that has rocked the bank for the past year.
Wells Fargo has identified 3.5 million potentially fake bank and credit card accounts that were
created to help meet management targets.

Angry Birds flops: Rovio Entertainment, the Finnish maker of Angry Birds,
made its official debut on the Nasdaq Helsinki.
But the IPO has failed to take flight.
Rovio shares dropped by nearly 4% to just under €11 ($12.90) on Tuesday.
The company is now in danger of losing its $1 billion valuation.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were pointing higher.
European markets opened in positive territory,
while most Asian markets ended the session higher.
Markets in mainland China were closed.

DOW +84.07 Tuesday(+)

CNN Money:

Equifax grilling: Equifax (EFX) will be on Capitol Hill on Wednesday for a second day of hearings
over its massive security breach.
The hack of the credit reporting company compromised some of the most sensitive personal information
of up to 145.5 million Americans.
"The criminal hack happened on my watch... I take full responsibility,"
former CEO Richard Smith testified Tuesday.
Federal agencies, state officials and members of Congress are currently investigating Equifax over its
data security practices, customer service response and the possibility of insider trading from executives.

Google product launch: Google (GOOGL) is widely expected to unveil a new version of its Pixel phone
at an event on Wednesday.
In September, the tech giant said it will pay $1.1 billion for access to smartphone expertise from
Taiwanese manufacturer HTC.
The move showed that Google is serious about beefing up its smartphone business.

Spain in turmoil: The political crisis in Spain has intensified after Catalonia's leader, Carles Puigdemont,
told the BBC on Tuesday that his government would unilaterally declare independence by "the end of this
week or the beginning of next."

The King of Spain lashed out at Catalan authorities after hundreds of thousands of locals took to the streets
to vent their fury over the violent police crackdown on Sunday's contested independence referendum.
The main stock market in Madrid dropped by over 2% on Wednesday,
but the euro remained resilient.

Markets winning streak: U.S. markets closed at new record highs on Tuesday after solid outlook from
Delta (DAL) lifted airline stocks including United Continental (UAL) and American Airlines (AAL).

U.S. stock futures were lower on Wednesday.
Global market overview: European markets opened mixed.
Asia ended its session mostly higher. Markets in mainland China are closed this week.

DOW +19.97 Wednesday(+)

Spain on the brink: Spanish markets were volatile Thursday as the country grappled with its
worst political crisis in decades.
Officials in Catalonia have warned they could declare independence from Spain within days after
Madrid interfered in an independence referendum.
The leader of the Catalan separatist government, Carles Puigdemont, said late Wednesday that the
Spanish government's policies have proved "catastrophic" for Catalonia.
He also accused the King of Spain of "deliberately ignoring the millions of Catalans who don't think like him."
Spain's benchmark index posted a small gain in early trading after dropping by nearly 3% on Wednesday.

Saudi King in Russia: King Salman is making the first ever trip to Russia by a Saudi monarch, arriving in Moscow
for a visit with President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders are expected to discuss economic cooperation and the possible
extension of a deal to slash oil production.
U.S. crude futures inched higher to trade around $50 per barrel.

Car sales slump: New car sales in the U.K. fell 9% in September, the sixth consecutive monthly decline.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, which publishes the data,
said economic and political uncertainty, as well as confusion over diesel vehicle bans led to a fall in consumer confidence.
"September is always a barometer of the health of the U.K. new car market so this decline will cause considerable concern,"
SMMT CEO Mike Hawes said in a statement.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were flat on Thursday.
Markets in Europe and Asia were mixed.

DOW +113.75 Thursday

CNN Money:

Jobs report: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release its September jobs report at 8:30 a.m. ET.
Economists expect the report will show that employers added only 90,000 jobs in the month.
That's well below the average growth of 175,000 jobs a month so far this year.
But it's mostly because the numbers will include the effects of several weather disasters.
Hurricane Harvey shut down activity in Houston for days, and Hurricanes Irma and Maria
have hit businesses in Florida.
Employers added 156,000 jobs in August -- a slowdown from previous months.

Pound under pressure: The British pound has had a very rough week, shedding 2.5% against
the dollar since Sunday. The currency has declined 13% since the Brexit vote.
Prime Minister Theresa May turned in a lackluster performance at an annual meeting of
her Conservative Party earlier this week, raising questions about her leadership.
The pressure on May increased another notch on Friday when a political rebellion
aimed at removing her from power burst into the open.
May has pledged not to step down, but her position seem less stable by the day.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were flat early on Friday.
European markets were mixed in early trading, with British and German
indexes in posive territory. Worries over a potential declaration of independence
in Catalonia weighed on Spanish stocks.
Asian markets ended the session higher.

Stock market movers -- Costco, Netflix: Costco (COST) share were down 3%
in extended trading after its earnings report missed estimates on Thursday.
Netflix (NFLX) was 1% higher in extended trading after it
hiked prices on its standard and premium streaming subscription services.

Cnn Money

Spotlight on Spain: Investors are closely monitoring the most serious
political crisis to hit Spain in four decades.
The benchmark Spanish stock index jumped 1% early Monday, a signal
that investors believe reconciliation between the separatist government
of Catalonia and Madrid is more likely.
The Catalan government has threatened to declare independence following a controversial referendum.
But Catalans opposed to a break with Spain flooded the streets of Barcelona on Sunday.
Businesses are now reacting to the increased uncertainty:
The lenders CaixaBank and Banco Sabadell have both announced plans to move their headquarters out of Catalonia.
"Last week's decision of the top two Catalan banks to shift their headquarters to other parts of Spain is just a foretaste
of the calamities that could befall Barcelona," Holger Schmieding, an economist at Berenberg Bank, wrote in a research note.

May survives (for now): The British pound has bounced back after a very bad week, gaining 0.4% against the dollar on Monday.
The currency had been hit by fears of even more political and policy uncertainty after Prime Minister Theresa May delivered
a disastrous performance at her party's annual meeting last week.
By Friday, a plot to remove her from office had burst into the open.
It appears to have failed, but deep uncertainty about Britain's future remains.
The fifth round of Brexit talks between the U.K. and the European Union is scheduled to start on Monday.
The two sides have not yet started discussing their future trading relationship.
May is scheduled to meet with business leaders on Monday.
Consumer spending data published by Visa showed that outlays fell again in September
as households were squeezed by rising inflation.

DOW -12.60 Monday(-)

CNN Money:

Catalonia crunch time: The benchmark stock market in Spain opened 0.5% lower on Tuesday
ahead of the highly-anticipated appearance of Catalan President Carles Puigdemont in the
regional parliament.
Puigdemont had been expected to formally declare the region's independence from Spain.
But there is intense speculation about whether he will go ahead with such a provocative move.
A huge rally against independence in Barcelona at the weekend exposed deep misgivings about
his tactics among some sections of Catalan society. Some businesses have protectively moved
their legal homes out of the region.

IMF outlook:
The International Monetary Fund will publish its Global Economic Outlook at 9:00am(Eastern)
In July, the IMF lowered its U.S. growth forecast to 2.1% for 2017 and 2018.
That's well below the 4% growth President Trump promised on the campaign trail, and significantly
lower than the 3% rate he has targeted since assuming office.
Investors will be watching whether the IMF updates its forecasts for U.S. and global growth.

May on Plan B: British Prime Minister Theresa May told parliament on Monday that her government
is preparing for all possible outcomes of divorce talks with the European Union,
including one where the U.K. crashes out of the bloc without a trade agreement.

The government published a document that outlines plans to keep trade flowing if no deal materializes.

Global market overview: U.S. stock futures were edging higher.
European markets opened mixed, while most Asia market posted gains.

Company news: British defense firm BAE Systems (BAESF) announced Tuesday that it will cut
nearly 2,000 jobs in the U.K. as it slows production of its Eurofighter Typhoon fighter.
Shares were 0.8% lower in early trade.

Shares in Japan's Kobe Steel (KBSTY) dropped as much as 22% in Tokyo after the company
admitted that it had falsified data relating to the quality of some of its aluminum and copper products
used in cars and airplanes.
