Bilbao hosts Real Madrid on Saturday and the climate for this match is far different from Week 3's clash in Madrid. Last September Real was returning home after a very lucky 3-3 draw in Malaga, and were exhibiting the sloppy play that saw them fall behind 0-2 in the Real Madrid Cup opener against Sporting Lisbon. Bilbao came to town complacent, fresh off a 3-1 win over FC Barcelona. Real Madrid dominated the contest, easily earning all three points.

This time around Real Madrid is coming off a thrilling 4-3 win over Malaga, and are looking forward to a date with SS Lazio midweek in the Real Madrid Cup. Bilbao return home with their tail between their legs after a 7-0 debacle at Barcelona's Nou Camp. Expect the Basques to be grumpy.

Bilbao was my surprise pick to crack the top four this year and I couldn't have been farther wrong. This match and the next will be the season's gut-check for them as they'll have played each of La Coruna, Real Madrid, and FCB twice...are they going to shoot for an Intertoto spot, or just quit?

If only ScottLandau were a soccer bettor, because I'd really like to know the ATS record of teams after being whupped by 4+ goals in their previous game. Have to lean toward Real here, though I'm worried they'll be distracted by their upcoming game against Lazio, in the ManU Invitational.

Ok Pokerjoe...

A little Man U trivia for you that was sent to me on the weekend:

"Manchester United is one of the giants of European football. How many more European Cup finals has Man U been in than has Steaua Bucharest? How about Reims (a French club)?"

"Man U invitational." Indeed.

And now the answer:

Manchester United, Steaua Bucharest, and Reims have all reached the same number of European Cup finals--two. Reims, currently in France's part-time fourth division, reached the very first final in 1956, and returned in 1959. Steaua Bucharest remains one of Romania's stronger clubs.

Well, reasonably easy to do, depends how far you want to go back, and how many teams, and what sort of odds records you have

AV, the only odds record I've ever been able to find online is Don Best, for EPL and Serie A, Cris and Olympic only.

My New Year's Eve resolution this year, however, is to keep one for myself, probable the BetBrain average, probably for MLS, Mexico, EPL, Italy, La Liga, Le Champ and Boondy.

But if you know of one, please post the URL. I'd love to visit.

And of course, the results of such games are easily found, though it'd be tedious going through enough seasons to make a good sample. I did end up betting on the Basques against Real this last out, they being a peculiarly proud outfit generally, especially at home.

No, no such thing online really, you have to do it yourself.

Yes, all betting work is tedious in general.
