Default Barthez numero un pour Les Bleus!

You follow the French League...is it reasonable to put Bathez ahead of Coupet, or, for that matter, ahead of three or four others I can think of?

Pure bullsh!t. This is just another favour to Zizou from a spineless manager that is absolutelly clueless when it comes to puting the best players on the field. See his Micoud decisions for ample samples on the level of idiocy by this clown.

Barthez has never been a top class goalie, but the defense that played in front of him made him look like one. In my opinion Coupet is top 3 in the world while Barthez doesn't make the top 100

Landreau is ahead of Barthez, his profitle will grow exponentially at PSG next season. Last season I would have put Itandje up there too, but he has regressed. Rame at Bordeaux has been decent this year and in the past. Pele at Le Mans is the up and coming guy now, Arsenal have had their eye on him for a while. Cool at Auxerre is a veteran that can do the job as well. Revault at Toulouse is probably the best unknown goalie outside France, but he was injured the 2nd half of the season.

Here's the french roster for the WC announced today

Goalies
Fabien BARTHEZ (Marseille) - 35 ans - 77 sélections
Grégory COUPET (Lyon) - 33 ans - 18 sélections
Mickaël LANDREAU (Nantes) - 27 ans - 3 sélections

Defenders
Eric ABIDAL (Lyon) - 26 ans - 5 sélections
Jean-Alain BOUMSONG (Newcastle) - 26 ans - 18 sélections
Pascal CHIMBONDA (Wigan) - 27 ans - 0 sélection
William GALLAS (Chelsea) - 28 ans - 37 sélections
Gaël GIVET (Monaco) - 25 ans - 11 sélections
Willy SAGNOL (Bayern Munich) - 29 ans - 35 sélections
Mikaël SILVESTRE (Manchester United) - 28 ans - 27 sélections
Lilian THURAM (Juventus Turin) - 34 ans - 111 sélections

Midfielders
Vikash DHORASOO (PSG) - 32 ans - 15 sélections
Alou DIARRA (Lens) - 24 ans - 8 sélections
Claude MAKELELE (Chelsea) - 33 ans - 40 sélections
Florent MALOUDA (Lyon) - 25 ans - 10 sélections
Patrick VIEIRA (Juventus Turin) - 29 ans - 84 sélections
Zinédine ZIDANE (Real Madrid) - 33 ans - 99 sélections

Strikers
Djibril CISSE (Liverpool) - 24 ans - 27 sélections
Thierry HENRY (Arsenal) - 28 ans - 76 sélections
Franck RIBERY (Marseille) - 23 ans - 0 sélection
Louis SAHA (Manchester United) - 27 ans - 8 sélections
David TREZEGUET (Juventus Turin) - 28 ans - 61 sélections
Sylvain WILTORD (Lyon) - 32 ans - 77 sélections

Solid in goal, not sure I really like the defense or midfield, solid up front. I wanted to see Ribery on it, and I like that but there are two guys missing that make you go hmmm...

Where is Micoud and where is Giuly? Both have had outstanding seasons and can help this team a lot more than Saha and Dhorasoo ever will.

Cimbonda on the roster is an absolute joke. He gets named to the EPL all star team(deserved because I can't name one quality right back in the EPL) and all of a sudden he comes onto the squad with absolutely no national team experience? He's a clown and is hated in France for his antics to incite the crowds while at Bastia, not sure he has his head on straight.

For my money Steve Finnan is about the best right back in the EPL, which shows you just what a lack of quality full backs there are in England. Gone are the days of Denis Irwin and Paul Parker.

Paul Parker?...90`s squad right?Played for QPR if memory serves.
