Default North America/South America cup, comparable to Euro?

I don't see why No/So America don't put on an international cup similar to Euro 2008. Obviously, the schedule would line up, as this is time off. And pooling the No/So Amer would create a pretty nice group of teams.

Is there any reason this doesn't happen? Plus, why are any of the continental championships in North Amer and South Amer taken so less seriously? Is it b/c Brazil and Argentina are traditionally so much better than everyone else?

Isn't the Gold Cup the one where Brazil sends their U-20 team? What I'm saying is that I don't see why there's not a legitimate "America's international championship" every 4 years.

There is. It's called Copa America. All the S. American teams, plus Mexico, plus any other country that wants to pony up.
