HOULLIER: OWEN STAYS WITH US
Gerard Houllier has insisted Liverpool's determination to tie Michael Owen to a new contract will not be diminished even if Real Madrid bid a world-record £52million for the England striker.
Reports have suggested the Spanish giants are preparing a £25million swoop to partner Owen with England captain David Beckham.
But Houllier says the Merseysiders' desire to extend Owen's deal - which has 18 months to run - will be just as strong even if Real reverse the reported figures and table a £52million offer.
"Even if they phoned me with the figure quoted - or even if it was reversed we would still want to keep Michael," said Houllier.
"I am convinced he wants to stay, and at some point we will find a conclusion (to contract talks).
"There is no deadline. We want to keep Michael; we love him in Liverpool, and I am sure we will get an agreement at some stage."
Houllier plans to persuade Owen to stay and said: "Michael has already had three or four contracts here, and the main words are trust and care.
"Players look at the vision of the club, the environment, facilities and staff.
"Michael is only 23, and his best could come at 26 or 27. He tries to do what you ask him to and he has improved his heading and left foot."
Houllier is talking out of his arse - there is absolutely no way in hell that Liverpool would not agree to a 52 million quid offer. Even 25 mill sounds like a bad deal here. Compared to Ronaldo, Owen has hardly any skill whatsoever...
