FREEHOLD, NJ - - Freehold Raceway held 18 qualifying races on Thursday in preparation of its summer/fall meeting that commences on August 7.

A total of 87 horses fulfilled the qualifying standards of 2:03 for pacers and 2:05 for trotters and will be eligible to race when the meet opens next Thursday.

The fastest mile of the day was turned in by DCPM Racing Stable's Reach For Eternity. The three-year-old daughter of Falcon Seelster led throughout, setting fractions of 29, 58, 1:27.1 en route to a five and three-quarter length tally in a brisk 1:57.3.

Freehold Raceway's track superintendent, Gary Wolff, was very pleased by the racing surface.

"After a couple of months, we had to put the track back to grade," Wolff said. "It came together nicely. The qualifiers went well and I got good feedback from several of the drivers this morning."

Pete Koch, Freehold's director of racing, was gratified by the turnout for Thursday's qualifiers.

"We had an overwhelming response to our first qualifying session," Koch said. "Included among our qualifying races today where a good number of two-year-olds that are preparing for our extensive fall stakes schedule.

A couple of the coveted stakes that juveniles will compete for this fall at Freehold include the $150,000 Battle of Freehold pace and the $150,000 Lou Babic Memorial for New Jersey sired pacers.

Freehold's summer/fall meeting will feature live harness racing action on a Tuesday through Saturday schedule into December. First post will be 12:30 p.m. daily.
