Default Opening Day at The Wood

Race 1:
Looks like a great way to start the meet off...a 6 horse maiden claimer. Liked the Baffert firster in here but he looks pretty dead on the board. This 6 for Jones has scratched out of another race at least once, getting bet but not sure he is healthy. I'll take the 1, chased a ridiculous pace first out at MSW.

Win #1
Exacta Box #1-#5

Here's my .02

1 V Eight Rocket-P.Val gets off and don't like the drop or the rail. No works over the track a negative.

2 Silver Commander-Love the Trainer in this spot, great off a claim, brief rest, and Maiden Claimers. Like the confident class jump. Solid works since the claim too. Has raced against some real monsters in his short career, a few are derby bound. The Pick!!!

3 Wire Transfer-Should be closing to get a piece. Also wish he had a work over the track. 2nd or 3rd possibility.

4 Mei Sing Star-Don't like O'niel with first timers, even with P.Val getting on. I'll pass

5 Mind of Gold-Dead on the board but I would still use underneath.

6 Ice in the House-Didn't now about the late scratch. Would've been my co second choice.

I guess quite a few places are not taking Hollywood today for some reason.

Seems kind of lame that this could happen.

Think I'll play some Indiana Downs.....

The MidAtlantic Cooperative, which represents 17 racetracks and their various simulcast outlets in the purchase of signals, announced today it had rejected the latest offer for rates with Churchill Downs Inc.
Though this affects all six Churchill Downs-owned tracks, the timing is important because the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) is May 3.

Martin Lieberman, MidAtlantic's executive director, stated that the Cooperative could not accept Churchill's monetary demands.

"We stood ready to discuss and negotiate with Churchill Downs since early January," said Lieberman in a release. "Unfortunately, we were met with avoidance and numerous delays and then had two new and potentially more expensive proposals thrust upon us in the past two days."

Of particular concern, the release said, was Churchill's demand that the MidAtlantic racetracks pay unprecedented rates for the Kentucky Derby if a master agreement could not be reached.

Lieberman added, "We regret any inconvenience that this may cause our fans and hope that Churchill Downs will reevaluate this situation so that it can be resolved quickly."

MidAtlantic Cooperative member tracks include: Pimlico, Laurel Park, Philadelphia Park, Penn National, Pocono Downs, Charles Town, The Meadows, Delaware Park, Colonial Downs, Dover Downs, Harrington Raceway, Freehold, Atlantic City Race Course, Meadowlands, Monmouth, Rosecroft, and Ocean Downs.

Just what I figured.

They've had since January to work this out and it gets sprung on us on opening day.

Unfrickinbelievable.

I'm not sure which side to take in this simulcast disagreement. I'm tempted to take the side of Churhill because signals IMO have been undervalued in these deals, and the Midatlantic Cooperative helped ruin the Keeneland deal of dropping the takeout last year. I have to think Churchill has the leverage, running all the major tracks right now, obviously including the Derby. Customers would be driven offshore and to account wagering services if the standstill were prolonged. Would the lesser tracks in the cooperative be able to survive in these economic times?
