| Most of the poker discussion seems to be going on in the mess hall. I have a feeling there are a few decent players lurking here, but the emphasis is obviously on sports discussion and entertainment. I'm just a noob here myself, so I'm still reading and searching the forum to get a better feel for the landscape. Search function = good! Maybe you can post your questions or find some decent poker related info to post up and see if anyone has anything to add. |

| What limits do you guys play? I just started, too, mostly to pass the time in between sporting events--opened a small account on Stars ($1K roll) and an even smaller one on Full Tilt, but I have no idea what I'm doing (I was playin hi/low omaha earlier and thought I could use four on the board and only one of my hole cards and came out looking like a total moron). The games on Stars seem really nitty at $5 NL and $10 NL but start to get aggro and swingy at $25 NL (for instance, I would hardly ever get three bet preflop at $5 and $10 NL, but, as soon as I went up to $25 NL I was gettin three bet from all sides). I had a hand the other day at $25 NL where some guy three bet me pf with 1010 (I was initial raiser with AQ off suit) and I called, got it all in when I hit the nut straight on the turn and managed to survive the river (villain hit a set of tens on the flop and instacalled my turn shove). But, what I want to know is, should I have called his preflop three bet with AQ off suit to begin with? I am clueless when it comes to preflop action, especially at 6 max. Do any of you guys play higher stakes (i.e., $50 NL, $100 NL, $200 NL, etc.)? If so, I wouldn't mind watching you play when you're on (so, maybe I could learn a few things about the game). |

Regarding opponents, I just bought Pokertracker and have begun using it to gain information on the regs, but, I have no clue how to use the stats. Someone told me that the VPIP and the PFR numbers have to be pretty close (to be considered a solid player)? Does anyone else use PT? Is that the best program or is there a better one out there? |

| OK. That's a fair answer. IMHO, it's a little sloppy to mix terms of games that are completely different (LHE vs. NLHE). Raise, re-raise, and ott make more sense to me. No big deal, since I have to truck half-way across the globe to play anyway. I found this interesting: "I want to get to the point where certain situations become standard with particular holdings in specific positions." You can't be that predictable, especially at 6-max. If you're playing any kind of stakes on-line, you're probably being had. Casino action is not that much different. Just my personal opinion... Now, who wants to meet me at the Stardust for a 30 - 60 game? Anyone? ![]() |
