Your right Ctown, I thought the race was over when I saw practice on FX. My mistake. Also I said I thought I heard them mention Dave was goin back when I meant Sadler. As soon as I heard that they showed the 38 in the garage. Is the 38 changing engines. Help please. I really think Matt will have to change engines.

going to the back doesnt bother me, watched marlin beat me here last year from dead last. so if theyhave the car it doesnt matter much just takes longer to get there.i think kenseth was fine. ctown what did they say on line when u were watching but he went back out and posted thefastest lap of theday after fixing the oil line i think, could be wrong but i think he did.

Will the DeWalt team take any chances. I took a chance when I took Stewart after I seen that. It wasn't long after Marlin came from behind to win that someone else did it a few races later. My memory ain't what it used to be but the books took notice of that and did'nt change their lines after that when drivers of any calibur went back.

just a heads up, i think what fx played for happy hour was really sat. 1st prac. thatsracin.com has kenseth fastest in hh not nadeau. when it comes to fox its crazy they have 5 channels and they still can't bring us live action. jerks!

Hey Doc, looks like you started an awful lot of love on this board for the 38, I didn't really understand it until I saw it was all you Virginia boys that liked him. I've also seen more talk this week about people being upset at how WELL their guys qualify, one of these days someone is gonna have to explain that to me... Anyway, my picks are on the way. I can't say I'm especially happy with them this week though cuz this was a tough race to 'cap... Good luck everyone...

I'm in full agreement w/ LK this week......very tough race to cap, as more than a fair share of winners can come from drivers that offer no value whatsover. Grabbing the 38 pre-Q was nice, but he doesn't look nearly as good now as he did on Friday. Sure looks like the 24 will once again be a real pain come Sunday...or Monday...whichever. 48 looked decent on the sheet, but seemed to lack a long run time. This one should be interesting to say the least........couldn't pick 1 or even 5 drivers that I would say for definatly win this race. GLTA

LK, The love of the 38 has dropped dramatically since the pole grabbing speed backed up by the poor practice results. Those two combos usually not a good sign of a winner. Don't dis-respect Sadler too much though hoss he is going to a solid contender inthe seasons to come. Win Bets: 3* Matt Kenseth 8-1 (+16*) 2* Jimmie Johnson 12-1 (+15*) 2* Sterling Marlin 12-1 (+15*) 2* Ryan Newman 9-1 (+9*) 2* Ward Burton 18-1 (+27*) Seven of the last Nine winners at Darlington, with Jarrett being the exception, could have been easily captured by just observing Happy Hour times and betting the fastest times. Ward Burton’s 2000 win in this race paid off, as he was second in Happy Hour. Burton also won the 2001 Southern 500, where he started in 37th position. He could have been had at 30/1 in that race. Jeff Burton dominated the 1999 season at Darlington when he swept the season. In the '99 Southern 500, Jeff Burton qualified 15th but was fastest in Happy Hour. Last season, Sterling Marlin was fastest in Happy Hour and won the race. He started 11th, stayed near the front all day and then dominated for the last 63 laps. This weekend Kenseth was fastest in HH with the 48 second, 24 third, and the 12 & 40 in the top 10 as well. The 22 has been near the front all weekend, and as I said earlier this week loves this track. With the speed chart numbers, and that fact I’ll take him at 18-1. I really battled leaving the 24 out, but for a couple of reasons I took my chances. First of all Gordon hasn’t been that dominate in some time, and second he is the favorite of the race. That usually spells death on the circuit, and the 24 has had his share of bad luck bite him. At 5-1 he cost just too much, and I hope I don’t regret saying that Using HH speeds isn't the best way to cap a race at all, but it has seem to work recently here at this track. Match Ups: 3* Ward Burton over Rusty Wallace –115 3* Jimmy Spencer over Ricky Rudd –105 3* Joe Nemechek over Bill Elliott +115 3* Matt Kenseth over Kurt Busch –140 3* Jamie McMurray over Greg Biffle –125

| Hey Doc, just a little correction on Sterling Marlin last year (which someone else mentioned already). He was slated to start 11th, but blew an engine and had to move to the back to start the race and then blew through the field (if you remember, for a while last year anytime a guy blew an engine and moved to the back it was almost an automatic bet for me as long as the books bumped his odds. That cashed in 3 times last year at great odds every time, although it seemed to get less important as the year moved on). Kurt Busch now gets a fresh race engine and has had his moments here at Darlington (although he usually seems to run into walls before finishing them), so I'd be surprised if he didn't at least make a run to the front. With the Roush engine problems lately I didn't include him in my win bets, so that's why I think those looking for value from someone coming from the back might look to Nemechyk at 50-1. Also, just to add to your take on the 22, you pointed out that Ward Burton runs strong here and blah blah blah, and I agree with everything you said. One other thing to point out on him is that he now has Stoddard as his crew chief, who knows a thing or two about dialing in a car here since he was in charge of the 99 when he was winning and/or leading the most laps just about every time out here a few years ago. I'm actually toying with the idea of dropping a unit or two on the 22 just in case... I certainly don't envy you having had to make a decision on the 24 at only 5-1. I saw 7-1 and that made things a lot easier. By the way, if anyone important to my career is reading this, I AM NOT actually betting on this stuff, this is for entertainment purposes only...
