The Iceman back on track, awaiting release of biography

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

Reported by: Ryan Foran

Central Coast superstar Chuck Liddell may be coming off one of his biggest wins ever. This after some questioned whether at 38-years-old, Liddell had lost his touch. But it turns out, the Iceman has plenty of fire left to burn.

The Iceman is back. After losing two straight fights, Chuck Liddell is back at his gym in San Luis Obispo after beating Wanderlay Silva in UFC 79 in Las Vegas in late December.

"This is a fight where it was just, get back out there and showing people that I can still do it. And get back out there for me, and just going out there and having fun, you know. And remembering all this training is what it's for, and so I can go out there and have a great time," said Liddell about his last bout.

To prepare for one of the most anticipated fights in the history of mixed martial arts, Liddell, a former Cal Poly wrestler, who donned his green and gold shorts at the weigh in, went back to his roots and added Cal Poly wrestling Coach Sammie Henson to his corner.

"Sammie brought back some of my attitude with my wrestling. And in the gym he brings a lot of intensity. He's an intense guy and helped me out with a lot of my wrestling conditioning and some of that stuff," said Liddell about Henson.

When asked about being brought on to help Chuck prepare for his latest bout Henson said, "I get him going. You know, I'm a pretty intense guy and I think he needed that kind of coaching and also just a fact of getting back to wrestling, taking everybody away from his fighting and his punching."

The Iceman says his next fight won't be until sometime in the summer. "By the end of '08 I'd like to have the title back. That is the goal. So, two more fights in '08 probably and the last one should be a title shot," said Liddell about the next time he'll be in the octagon.

In the meantime, Chuck will be promoting his new book called "Iceman: My Fighting Life," which will be released on January 29.

"I'm sure there will be a lot of things people don't know in the book. It covers quite a bit of my life despite everything,"said Liddell about his soon to be released biography.

The Iceman will be doing a book signing on February 17. It will take place at the Madonna Road Borders in San Luis Obispo at 7:00 p.m.

eh, I think Jackson was a fluke, he left his chin hanging out there and got caught. would bet chuck in the rematch

he did look like absolute garbage vs jardine

i would like to see him get another title shot, he doesn't have many fights left in him
