Mini Camp Ends With Some Good Performances
Paul Hamilton - Sunday, May 1, 2005 - 2:41 PM
Orchard Park, (WGR 550)- The Bills wrapped up mini camp this morning with J.P. Losman testing himself against a gusty Wilson Stadium wind. Losman said he threw the ball harder and came through well. Losman started camp rusty on Friday, but got better as the week- end went on. He had some nice looking hook ups with Lee Evans and second round pick Roscoe Parrish out of Miami. Parrish showed his speed and quickness as well as good hands all three days. 5th round pick CB Eric King from Wake Forest also played very well picking off a few passes and knocking down others.
Mike Mularkey says he'll go over all the practices on film before he decides how to move forward on the offensive line. All weekend long the starters were Mike Gandy, Bennie Anderson, Trey Teague, Chris Villarrial and the slimed down Mike Williams. His gut is almost gone and Mularkey says his RT spent much of the off season working with strength and conditioning coach Brad Roll.
Mularkey was quick to point out that Ron Edwards had a very good mini camp and DT. He's battling Tim Anderson to take the place of the departed Pat Williams.
With four tight ends hurt, the club only had two healthy ones for camp. Rod Trafford and rookie free agent out of Northern Illinois, Brad Cieslak got all the reps. Cieslak was excused from the end of camp rookie sprints in front of the team for obvious reasons.
Losman was the main focus of everybody. He was determined to put to bed the "lazy Californian" myth and he wanted to show teammates and coaches he knows the offense and can lead. Mularkey said he listened in on the huddle when Losman didn't know he was there and felt his second year QB hand command of the situation. Villarrial says Losman even corrected one of the coaches on a play call. Losman said he was comfortable with Parrish and Evans, but he wants to work with Moulds more. They missed each other more than they connected. Losman says he wants to learn how Moulds likes to run routes.
The team is off for three weeks until OTA's start the final week in May. Mularkey says he encouraged youngsters as well as All Pro's to remain in town to work informally with position coaches. Some like Losman have already been doing that for a few months. The Bills can not require players to stay. |
