Tight Pussy
The old saying goes, "Curiosity killed the cat," but, in Homer's case, curiosity got her head stuck.
Last Thursday at about 4 p.m., the fire department received a call for a cat with its head stuck in a storm drain grate on Hanian Drive.
When the Engine 1 crew arrived, they found the two-year-old feline trying desperately to free her head from a two-inch square hole in the grate.
Firefighters, with the help of the Weymouth animal control officer, tried unsuccessfully to free the kitty. The rescuers decided to remove the entire 250-pound steel grate and transport it, and Homer, to the VCA animal hospital on Columbian Street.
The cat and her unwanted neckwear were carefully placed in the animal control officer's van for the trip to South Weymouth.
Veterinarians sedated Homer, lubricated her fur, and slipped her head from the grate.
Jacqueline Lang comforted Homer at the hospital following her ordeal.
After being held overnight, Homer was sent home where she is recovering. |
