Actor Owen Wilson hospitalized after alleged suicide attempt.

Actor Owen Wilson was rushed to hospital on Sunday after allegedly attempting suicide.

Star magazine and the National Enquirer claim the 38-year-old actor was taken to St. John's hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. by ambulance after police and paramedics responded to a 911 call from Wilson's home shortly after noon.

According to the report, a family member found Wilson with a sliced left wrist. He also allegedly took an unknown quantity of pills.

Santa Monica Police refused to provide details but confirmed that a person was transported to hospital for treatment.

Wilson was reportedly transferred to another hospital in stable condition after his wrist was sutured and bandaged.

The star is currently filming Tropic Thunder in Hawaii with Ben Stiller and has two more films lined up. His movies include You, Me and Dupree and Starsky & Hutch. Wilson's relationship with Kate Hudson ended earlier this year.

It’s been a bizarre past week. Linday gets one day in the can, Nicole spends only 82 minutes in jail, Britney gets pulled over for speeding, Hulk Hogan’s son is involved in a near fatal car accident and Owen Wilson slits his wrists in his Santa Monica home.

We have learned that Wilson was transfered from St. John’s hospital to the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. His brother Luke was seen arriving to the latter on Sunday night. Star Magazine and The National Enquirer exclusively broke the story, which originally was reported as an “overdose” problem but as the story unfolded, it was learned that he had slit his wrists as well, both of them.

His condition is now stable.

Even though a lot are calling it a suicide attempt, the truth is that we really don’t know. He could have been under the influence of the overdose of medication pills he had just taken, which could have rendered him uncontrollable.

Owen Wilson recently split from Kate Hudson.

Owen Wilson asks to be allowed to "heal in private"

(Reuters) - Oscar-nominated film star Owen Wilson, best known for movies such as "Wedding Crashers," has asked the media to allow him to "heal in private" following numerous reports that he was hospitalized over the weekend.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement released to Reuters.

Various news reports surfaced late on Sunday that Wilson, 38, was in Cedars Sinai Medical Center in the Beverly Hills area, and some reports cited unnamed sources as saying he had tried to commit suicide.

But his spokeswoman, Ina Treciokas, declined to comment beyond Wilson's statement, and it was unclear exactly how or what the actor's problems were.

Fire and police officials confirmed they had responded to a "medical aid" situation at Wilson's home on Sunday, but declined further comment, citing confidentiality laws.

Hospital spokespersons also declined to comment.

People magazine reported on its Web site that his brother, actor Luke Wilson, and other family members had been seen outside Cedars Sinai.

Sources close to Owen Wilson say the actor struggled with heroin and cocaine addiction and severe depression that only worsened after his relationship with Kate Hudson ended.

Three days before is suicide attempt, Wilson went to a neighborhood church "out of either devotion or desperation" only to hit rock bottom last Sunday.

A family friend told People Magazine:

''We always thought he was just too fun-loving, but now it's obvious he was just dealing with way too much to handle."



Meanwhile, Courtney Love, a close friend of Wilson's, blames British comedian and drug addict, Steve Coogan, for accelerating Wilson's downward spiral. Coogan and Wilson first met on the set of Night at the Museum and they are now currently filming Tropic Thunder.
