It would impossible to go by head count or ballpark figure but this is a good question. I would go by percentage.

2 out of 10 which is 20%

Alot of states have passed laws making it illegal to wager offshore. So there probably aren't very many people at all who do it.

A Canuck survey showed that "5% of the Canadian population placed a bet on the internet last year".

So...whatever that means.

Devil, the Canadian obviously includes casinos. I was just posting it as "information", not as an answer.

I think the number in the U.S. is around 25% of the adult population.......That would include all sportsbetting....legal and illegal and all casinos....net or land based.....

neilm - yes, I would say 20%.

This survey all depends on nationalities.

Majority of Asian Americans gamble much more than others.

My guess is close to Railbird's....apx .5%

Even this small #, that is a lot of gamblers. I think the % will keep going higher (pretty dramatically) over the next several years. The books who can whether the start up costs involved, offer good customer service, build a good reputation, stand to reap HUGE profits in the future IMHO.
