Well after seeing pictures of the "infamous Al Qaida network caves" on the internet - which were nothing more than dug out holes and after viewing the video today, I am convinced that Al Qaida is nothing more to fear than any of the other Islamic groups. And in fact they probably need be feared even less than Islamic Jihad or Hamas. One thing we are quickly learning about these terrorists is that they are all talk. Remember Hussein with his "mother of all battles", which turned out to be a walkover? And now Al Qaida which is supposed to be so sophisticated turned out to be nothing more than a group of terrorists who happened to catch the U.S. with its guard up. I have no doubt that attacks like the one the American Taliban has stated will happen sarting on Sunday will never take place because 1- The Western Countries will be ready and 2- Al Qaida just isn't that sophisticated They "got lucky" with the attack on the WTC because the U.S. got complacent with security. But the belief that this group is somehow so large and sophisticated that they have inpenetrable bunkers with air conditioning and a secret network that can create nuclear weapons etc. is a bunch of bunk. What you have are a group of extremists who were able to get financing from Bin Laden, a few Sheiks and some terrorist fundraising organizations to carry out a large scale suicide mission. But it's also clear that these terrorists that are to be so feared have IQs the size of Mike Tyson. After all you heard Bin Laden and the Sheikhs laughing at the fact that most of the hijackers didn't even know they were going to die but thought they were simply on a basic hijacking mission. I wonder if they would have volunteered if they knew. [ 12-13-2001: Message edited by: Hartley ]</p>

Extreme groups with extreme points of view will never cut it in the long run for one simple reason: They are at war with biology; that is to say, human nature. Human beings are naturally enterprising and hedonistic. Any ideology that attempts to thwart human nature and deem it "evil," or "the "devil's work," is doomed to fail. Sure, you'll always have the occasional nut cases like Railbird, but humanity in general will inevitably default to its true nature. And only a democracy based on separation of church of state provides the matrix that allows people to function in accord with their biological drives.

| I am in agreement with Alan here. Do you really feel safe now that Afghanistan has been blown to pieces and the Taliban have been defeated? Lets say that terrorists try another 1000 times to do something similar. All they need is one slip up and they have another victory. I agree that a lot of terroist groups are just talk but all it takes is another (group of) nutter(s). To those who think the War has already been won, wake up because its not even close imo. | What surprises me is that these guys can pull any of these attacks off at all. From watching the tape it is obvious that these guys sit around and smoke hash all day. Maybe thats why they went to Afghanistan so they can have access to good hash and opium. Either way they all deserve to die in the most inhumane way possible. |

Aly, I agree too. And YES, I remember all the MORONS who said we wouldn't do ANYTHING (How much of a genius did you have to be to make THAT statement ), that it would take us years and years (Remember the Russians they proclaimed!), and that our Govt is incompetent and to slow to react. And where are all these morons now? Sitting at home waiting for a 4th qtr miracle so they can jump outta the LazyBoy and say "I told you so..". Oh yeah, I'm sure they're bitching about their civil rights being taken away too, and of course, all the while they're enjoying the same lifestyle they've always had. Ohh I'm sorry, I suppose they have to get to the airport an hour or two earlier now when they roll off to enjoy their vacations in this "crapy" country they live in... Bunch of whiny-ass wussies who bitch moan and groan about everything and anything. Meanwhile their next door neighbor's kid has his ass on the line over there so they can enjoy the freedom to bitch. We should buy a small island where all these idiots can live together and spew their bullshit at each other all day long. I'll GLADLY be first in line to make a donation to purchase that piece of land... Hartley, I certainly hope you're right in that we won't see any more attacks by these low-lifes. I know the "public" surely believes there will be more, and you know how much money has been made fading the public's picks... so hopefully this is the beginning of the end for these scumbags.cjd

Well said Reno Overall the battle against terrorism is never going to end with a military solution. You can't kill them all, and neither can you prevent fututure terrorists from springing up like wild mushrooms. The only way to deal with the problem is to take away their reasons for resorting to terrorism. How do you do that? Now there's a question you need to answer... and it's not as easy as "what should we bomb next?"

Conrad most people don't give a shit about that. Which is sad. As for those who are "morons" who had reservations about going into Afghanistan. I admit I had reservations but turned out I was wrong. Then again it was mostly our bombing and Northern Warlord Alliance troops doing the grunt work. I expected us to do some of that. Well, time to go and take that 4 week vacation.

cjd333 Russia had Afghanistan in 2 days Yes some one is dying over there,but if your not told about it, it's not happening is it(I do know there are something like 22 reporters dead) This is a long long way from being over, that it's not funny... When Osama bin Laden and most of the top of al-Qaida network is dead, then maybe, but it not, and it look like it's along way away
| |||
First of all, how would you know Osama was caught? You expect CNN to tell you? It's probably in the interest of the US government to first of all not take him alive and secondly to not even confirm his death. That would merely have people thinking that the war is over and would take away support for further military action in other neighbouring regions.

Oz, If they "had it" in two days, then how come they stuck around for what, 7 years, fighting day in and day out? Give me a freaking break.... Russia's military is about 25 years behind the U.S. You know it too. Top to bottom, there's NO COUNTRY on earth that has the military power we do. Of course if you start launching nukes, then you don't need 99% of the rest of it. My point about the naysayers was directed at Americans who bitch, whine and groan about everything cuz in my opinion, they're a bunch of panzie ass crybabys who whine because they're too stupid and lazy to do anything else. And I never said it was OVER. But when you're about to put a new Govt in place, and you control the country militarily, then YEAH, I'd say you're doing pretty damn good. All in about 90 days too while the rest of the world was saying it would take YEARS AND YEARS. I said I hoped this was the BEGINNING of the end. Yes, they need to catch, kill, torture, or whatever, Osama Bin ScumBag and the rest of his shitheads. And YES, sooner or later they will. Of course I know you'd love to see that NOT HAPPEN so you could find some other reason to bash Americans. OZ, you really need to get laid more cuz you are without a doubt one of the most cynical people left on this planet. Maybe you and Heath could start a half-way house for cynics together... cjd

Right on Oz, I forgot that the US is like a 21-century Roman Empire, and the US public one big gladiator ring. Plus US government is corrupt, as Bill Clinton has proven with his bribe-taking and letting criminals off the hook. If Bill was still in power I'm sure $10M from Osama would land him a US passport and a week's stay at the White House hotel. BTW, the first thing that comes up when I think of cjd is Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. I see a definite correlation here. ![]()
