| NFL Notebook: Packers, Bears in season finale NFL flex scheduling moves Sunday game to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 From wire dispatches The Green Bay Packers will face the Chicago Bears in the final Sunday night game of the regular season on New Year's Eve thanks to the NFL's flexible schedule. The Packers (7-8), one of five teams vying for the final playoff spot in the NFC, will take on the Bears at Soldier Field. The outcome will have no bearing on Chicago (13-2) because the Bears already have clinched the top seed in the NFC and home-field advantage. The game, originally scheduled for 1 p.m., has been pushed back to an 8:15 p.m. kickoff. In other changes announced by the NFL: Buffalo at Baltimore, Miami at Indianapolis, and Atlanta at Philadelphia were all shifted from 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. . There are five scenarios in which the Packers have a chance to make the playoffs. If they fail, it is possible that Brett Favre will be playing his final NFL game in prime time. Giants Seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan will miss the rest of the season after a sprained right foot was aggravated against the New Orleans Saints. He was placed on injured reserve and could need surgery, the team said. The Giants (7-8) can almost surely clinch a playoff berth by beating the Redskins (5-10) in the regular-season finale at Washington Saturday. New York also placed offensive tackle Luke Petitgout and returner Chad Morton on injured reserve. Morton injured his knee Sunday; Petitgout had his leg broken against Chicago Nov. 12. Also, coach Tom Coughlin relieved offensive coordinator John Hufnagel of his play-calling duties. Quarterbacks coach Kevin Gilbride, a former offensive coordinator with the Houston Oilers, Jacksonville, the Steelers and Buffalo and a head coach with San Diego, will call the plays in Washington. Falcons Starting wide receiver Ashley Lelie suffered a left shoulder separation against Carolina and will miss the game at Philadelphia Sunday. Lelie, who has 28 catches for 430 yards and one touchdown, likely will be replaced by former starter Roddy White. Adam Jennings, who does not have a reception, will move up as the No. 3 receiver. Browns Coach Romeo Crennel is down to his third quarterback and another round of discipline for his top wide receiver. Third-string quarterback Ken Dorsey will start at Houston Sunday with Derek Anderson and Charlie Frye out. Anderson was placed on injured reserve with a separated shoulder. The Browns signed quarterback Lang Campbell as their backup. Campbell spent training camp with the Browns the past two seasons and has played in NFL Europe. Crennel refused to provide any insight into his decision not to start wide receiver Braylon Edwards against the Buccaneers other than to repeat that it was a coach's decision. Edwards didn't enter the game until late in the second quarter and immediately dropped a pass. He finished with two catches for 7 yards. Jaguars Guard Vince Manuwai signed a contract extension. Manuwai has started all 15 games this season, helping the Jaguars rank second in the NFL in rushing. Elsewhere The NFL is accusing the operators of two South Beach hotels of reneging on a deal to supply more than 50 rooms during the first week of February for Super Bowl XLI at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, according to court documents. The operators of the South Beach Hotel and the Crest Hotel, however, deny that they signed a contract to reserve 54 rooms between the two hotels for four nights during the week of the Super Bowl, as the league claimed in its filing for a dispute resolution with the American Arbitration Association. |

| I like it being moved to night.. Hell, any night games are a bonus, imo. I kinda get the imprssion some of Favres teammates may be growing tired of all the attention being paid to 1 player on the team. Think they ought to just be grateful any game of theirs is shown anywhere on t.v., at any damn time... I mean, it's not like we're witnessing incredible football with the Packers, on either side of the ball. <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>When NBC decided it wanted Sunday's game between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears moved to prime time, Packers coach Mike McCarthy saw it as a sign his team is headed in the right direction. Instead of playing at noon as originally scheduled, the Packers and Bears will kick off at 7:15 p.m. at Soldier Field in Chicago. "I definitely think it is a compliment to both football teams," McCarthy said. "It's an attractive football game. That's my understanding of the flex schedule. You have to play your way on to that schedule, and playing on national TV is definitely a compliment." One of the reasons the game made it on the schedule is the uncertainty surrounding Brett Favre's future and the potential of it being his final game. But some of the Packers' players said they felt the game being moved had less to do with Favre and more to do with this being a matchup between a division champion and a team trying to earn a postseason berth. "I think if we had been eliminated from the playoffs, there's no way they move this game," Packers defensive end Aaron Kampman said. "They want to show the best games, and they think this is a pretty good one."</end quote></div> |

| <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Originally posted by: (sportman) Hope every team falls on their arse so favre has a mini Super Bowl game (this Sunday night)</end quote></div> I hope there is a 2006 remake of the LT - Joe Thy sack starring Urlacher - Favre. Enough is enough you asshole Brett. You're not going anywhere unless you are carted out and you will continue to throw spread busting pick sixes on an 8-8 team. This guy really turned out to be a real beauty. He even tries that "Have you missed me yet?" stunt in the offseason he should be told "How can we miss you when you never left?" and then cut.
