| Thu, Jun. 29, 2006 Ex-MU football player arrested Alex Woodley receives a misdemeanor charge of fraudulent use of a credit or debit device. By MIKE DeARMOND Kansas City Star COLUMBIA | Alex Woodley, a former University of Missouri football player on probation for use of a stolen credit card, has been accused of a similar offense. Woodley surrendered at the Boone County Jail on Monday night and faces a July 7 court appearance on a misdemeanor (less than $500) charge of fraudulent use of a credit or debit device. On Aug. 3, 2004, Woodley entered a guilty plea to having stolen and used someone else's credit card and was on two years' probation off a suspended six-month jail sentence. Woodley was kicked off the MU team prior to the 2005 season for violation of unspecified rules. He took part in 2006 spring football drills as a nonscholarship player. But shortly after the conclusion of spring practice in April, Woodley was again kicked off the team. Woodley's latest arrest stemmed from an alleged incident that occurred on April 14 at a party at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house. There, according to police reports, several people found that credit and debit cards were missing. Police tied Woodley to the use of some of those cards. Police said Woodley admitted he had used the cards and that he had given a female friend one of the cards, but Woodley claimed not to have stolen them. Police, according to MU sports information director Chad Moller, have been investigating the situation for about two months. That investigation has involved questioning other MU athletes, although no other arrests have been made. Also, The Columbia Daily Tribune on Wednesday quoted MU basketball player Kalen Grimes as saying he knew nothing of a report that a female student's credit card and driver's license were found in the back of Grimes' SUV. Grimes has not been charged with a crime. "Nothing has happened with Kalen," Moller told The Star. Moller said he did not anticipate further comment from the athletic department at this time. Temple court date Tony Temple, a junior-to-be tailback from Rockhurst High, has entered a not-guilty plea to a charge of third-degree misdemeanor assault. Temple was recently arrested after an incident in a parking lot outside of Bennigan's restaurant in Columbia. An Aug. 10 court date is on the schedule of the Boone County Court. Temple is suspended from the football team, with both Temple and the athletic department withholding comment. |
