Default Online Gambling Is Illegal in the United States, but That Has Not Stopped Owner Calvin Ayre

Strange that Nightline did not air the Ayre segment. Maybe Calvin has got an injunction because things didn't go the way he wanted, or maybe Martin Bashir has been tipped to more skeletons in Ayre's closet and wants to update the story. Who knows. Not even the Shadow, this time. JC's point about Ayre being held without bail is very valid. Especially after his recent boasts about Bodog running even without him. Talk about a continuing criminal enterprise. Also, the authorities will be able to show a history of criminality with ol' pretty boy, as detailed on "The Cold Eye" website. As well, he does have numerous assets in Canada, and there will definitely be co-operation with the Yanks in this case. I can't see him having much left once they establish these assets are ALL proceeds of crime. Wonder what his old Grandpa in Saskatchewan will think of him then. Run, Cal, run!!

I think he abruptly closed down his restaurant back in Feb up in Vancouver....I wonder if it was due to all the publicity he was receiving at the time with the Fobres
story? Maybe he figured he would close it so that not to chance it being seized?

If there is one thing I know for sure about Calvin is that he would not be seeking all this attention if he thought for one second he would be seperated from his lifestyle by a set of iron bars.

While I am sure he appreciates all the concern from the message board legal teams I am sure he has had many people smarter than those here do their homework on where the ceiling is on his activities in and out of the US.

He is far from a martyr, he is doing what he is doing because he is confident his actions will not result in an indictment of any kind.

WRONG. The guy didn't even make it out of the subject line before he started spewing lies. Online gambling is most certainly NOT illegal in many states in the U.S.

Clevfan. He has sold the building housing the rest. and the three penthouses. There is little doubt he is going to try to hide his assets in Canada and elsewhere. No doubt that would partly explain his recent trip to Switzerland. Doesn't sound to me like he is a man unconcerned with legal troubles. Mike Cash, what's your story? Are you saying that because Calvin says that what he is doing is legal, then it must be? Please. You're smarter than that. He will be convicted of the same charges as Jay Cohen was, there is no doubt of that. Because of Ayre's attitude towards the US, and the enormity of his wealth, or alleged wealth, and his previous criminal dealings, his sentence will be far more severe than Cohen's. Hiding his money won't help him, he has bragged constantly about it. If he doesn't cough it up, they will simply give him more time. Of course the man has expert legal advice, that doesn't mean he's right and the law is wrong. The man is a meglomaniac. He thinks he is untouchable, but no one is in the online gaming business is. He is going to sink a lot of ships, you watch. BTW, why would anyone say a word in this guy's defence? Every dollar that got Bodog started was stolen money.

A bunch of low-minded, pettty, jealous assholes in this thread who, for no good reason at all, have got it in for Cool Calvin. Calvin's rich and famous and loves the attention. Hey, why shouldn't he have a ball basking in the limelight and rubbing his quasi-legal mega-success in Uncles Sam's ugly neo-fascist face?

The same idiots who despise Calvin probably celebrated when Martha Stewart and Michael Milikin got popped for doing nothing wrong. My guess is these idiots are collectivist-altruists who lack self-esteem and despise anyone, like Calvin, who has it and isn't shy about creatively and dramatically expressing it.

Biff,

Your comments would come off a lot more credible if you didn't have such a hard on for all things Bodog. I'm not sure what him/they have ever done to you but you should really try to relax a little bit.

I am glad you think that Calvin is the poster boy for prosecution but I hate to break it to you that there are US citizens in CR taking bets that the US Gov. would love to bring back here and stick an indictment on. Just because you don't see their names in the news and faces in magazines doesn't mean that the Justice Department isn't watching them far more closely then they will ever watch Calvin.

Bottom-line is that many people are trying to hang all this industries problems on Calvin and Bodog but that just isn't the reality of the situation.

Go Calvin.

I liked Milken and think he was way ahead of his time.

Martha Stewart is a stupid petty bitch who as the head of a large company should of absolutely thought of others instead of selling her stupid petty amount of stock (compared to her wealth) on inside info. She is familiar with insider laws and new what the potential penalties were. Yet she put her billion dollar company and its shareholers at risk for an amount that was chump change.

I'm not an idiot Reno.

She was.

LOL, nice flame from an operation that can't even answer e-mail. And don't ask me what I'm talking about Vietbet---I told you months ago that I sent e-mail to your listed e-mail address and got no response. Your shop answers e-mail when it feels like it, there is no denying that.

EVERYONE that goes to jail thinks he's smarter than everyone else and "how could this have possibly happened?".

While I am sure he appreciates all the concern from the message board legal teams I am sure he has had many people smarter than those here do their homework on where the ceiling is on his activities in and out of the US.

Yes, certainly Calvin has top notch International Law laywers that wouldn't possibly leave him exposed. And of course no one on this board is nearly as smart as his lawyers that will protect him from any and all fines/incarceration

Yes, Mike, I do hate the gussied-up piece of fecal material. I won't bore anyone with the reasons why, I'll just say they have been mentioned previously in this forum. And thanks to those wonderful guys that make it available. What would Ayre's buddies and backers wish, that only his mealy mouth was heard from. Don't know about the US interest in others in CR, I'm sure you are correct.. I'll say it again, though. A provable criminal past. That and his self-sought notoriety are what will be his rapidly approaching downfall. The Nightline story was an indication that the major US media are not going to be used as Ayre's pawns. Forbes basically smeared him because they were tipped to his shady past. You don't think the media doesn't have most of their stories written and are just waiting for an arrest? Yes, it's true. Again, all the high-priced legal help in the world isn't going to help the "Metrosexual Meglomaniac". Yeah, that's got a nice ring to it. Sort of like "The Dapper Don", or was it "The Teflon Don". You get my drift.

Exactly MC thats how I feel. Calvin gives them perfect cover and a very bright light to do a lot of watching with. Its the light all are afraid of.

Biff, you are seriously reaching here bro. You personal feelings are clouding the fact that one, you will see an American indicted in the US for taking bets before any other nationality if that day ever comes and two, Calvin's "crime" can't hold a candle to some of the other characters in CR. If you look past Bodog for just a moment you will find murders, pedofiles, rapists, fraudsters and drug traffickers taking your bets everyday. None of which I see stepping forward to admit or even discuss their pasts.

You are naive to think because of Calvin's publicity he is the most sought after bookmaker in the eyes of the Law.

Talk about chickens coming home to roost post. Damn Biff. Do you honestly expect any of us to hate him as much as you do? Seriously.

Biff, I hate to say it but your comments sound a lot like sour grapes and nothing else. It sounds to me that at some point you thought you were in his inner circle and now that Calvin has hit the big time you are jilted and trying everything and aything you can think of to slander him and Bodog because of your jealousy. If you don't like the guy anymore fine but you can't just go around and saying games are rigged and people are banging 14 year olds just because you think you should have some of the wealth he has accumulated.

I feel bad for you in that whatever happened between Calvin and yourself, you are unable to let it go and move on with your life. You should really pull yourself together and put the past behind you before you find yourself living in this guys shadow till you drink yourself to death. The comments you are posting here and even the fact that you are posting about all this stuff just isn't healthy. Move on man, it's over and done with, you owe it to yourself.
