What does it mean when it lists "Team Rebounds" @ the bottom of the boxscores .Thought I knew but obviously not .Says MAVS had 11 tonite .Hmmmm . Appreciate any & all feedback .</end quote></div> Maybe I didn't explain .Know what total rebounds are (add team's offensive rebounds with defensive rebounds) but @ the bottom in some boxscores it says Team Rebounds in a different place & it's usually a # between 1 & 20 .Use Thursday Pistons/Heat game as example .Pistons had 39 total rebounds which 28 were defensive & 11 were offensive .But below somewhere ,depending on the website ,it then says "Team Rebounds" : 8 .That's my quandary . Maybe this sounds irrelevant but I don't know what the 8 "Team Rebounds" mean & I'm trying to get a better feel for the pace of games to determine OVER/UNDER Totals . Thanks for any help . |

| I'm not positive about team rebounds because I've never seen the definition written out. I think it's a combination of: *Rebounds of missed free throws *Picking up a lose ball that's been batted around after a rebound (I"m skeptical about this one...but team rebounds always adds up to more than the number of missed free throws...so it's got to be SOMETHING!) I honestly don't know though...didn't have time to run through any stat sites to see if they have definitions. But...if you want to monitor tempo for predicting totals...there's a pretty simple formula you can use to get an estimate that doesn't use that category anyway: *Field Goal Attempts minus offensive rebounds plus turnovers plus .44 free throw attempts. That's the "semi-official" formula the stathead industry uses. The NBA standard is around 91 possessions per team per game. Slower games will be in the 80's (like most Detroit games of late), faster games will be in the mid 90's and higher (like most Phoenix games of late). I had my own formula before the stathead industry came along with theirs. I average these two: *FGA minus offensive rebounds plus turnovers plus .5 free throws *Made Field Goals plus defensive rebounds plus turnovers plus .5 free throws It's easier to do half of FT attempts in your head with the morning paper than .44 FT attempts. And, the difference doesn't really matter much...so I still do it this way. Hope that helps... BTW, we've got a thread in the THINK TANK that will be monitoring tempo's in the WNBA for the time being. The Phoenix girls are coached by Paul Westhead, who runs and guns like crazy. Their Game Two total opened at 160...got bet up to 167...and landed on 175. We're hoping that monitoring WNBA tempo's will help us find some edges on either end of the spectrum... |

| shots that go directly out of bounds or after a battle for the ball which goes out of bounds- can't credit them to one player so they're credited as a team rebound for whatever teams gains possession. |
