Default Why Was D-Train Pulled?

I hope that's not the reason, he's dominated Houston completely!

106 pitches is a good amount for the first start of the year. Don't expect most pitchers to go more than 6 innings during their first starts of the year.

Plus D-Train is young and the last thing the Marlins need is for him to blow out his arm early on.

I hate that excuse. If he's dominating like he was, you keep him in there. Especially in a tie game.

Jackyl....the season is 162 games long, why kill your pitchers in April when they clearly don't have the stamina they do in July. I was shocked Boston let Schil stay in there so long. I pull D Train after 106 every time in April. you can't win a penant in April, but can sure lose one

The stathead industry has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that you don't risk a year of pitching to try to pick up an extra inning or two in a tie game.

If Dusty Baker hadn't kept making the same mistake with Kerry Wood and Mark Prior...things would have been much more pleasant in Chicago in recent seasons.

If the manager had left Willis into reach 115-120 pitches..and Willis tore a ligament or a labrum in the process or in his next start...Willis could have sued AND WON for millions in lost future earnings based on all the studies done in the past five years. It would have been the single stupidest thing that manager ever would have done in his career.

It's like demanding your best player run head first into a brick wall to catch a pop up with nobody on base. The evidence is that overwhelming on the damage done to pitcher's arms after 115-120 pitches in a start, let alone an early season start.

That's why you've got to be careful betting on starting pitchers early in the season. They're not going beyond 110 pitches...most won't go beyond 100. Most teams have learned from the mistakes of the few that ruined their pitchers (or at least lost the use of them for extended periods). And, they learned that 100-105 was the magic number for years for the Atlanta Braves...the team that always kept their pitchers healthy year in and year out.

Leaving Willis in would have been insane. And, besides, the heart of the Canadian order was due up in the next inning...
