Anybody heard these? Was listening to sports radio for about three hours while driving yesterday and heard them at least 4 times. There are a couple of guys all excited talking about how you can place bets on the internet and then an ominous sounding voiceover tells them that this violates state and federal law. I guess in addition to their big fine, Sporting News also had to pump out some PSA's as punishment for allowing sportsbook ads. Gotta love our government.

| Heard them a couple of times myself.. The one guy says I can bet B.C. and it is legal and his friends says, really. Then as you wrote, the voiceover comes on. sponsored by The Sporting News

look who else is on the payroll. http://www.michaelfranzese.com/main/home.aspx Franzese is now a man on a mission. Determined to use the compelling experiences of his former life for the benefit of at-risk youth, professional and student athletes, corporate executives and for anyone seeking the inspiration to beat the odds and make positive changes in their lives, he has become a highly regarded motivator and a source of invaluable information. It began when Michael got an offer he couldn't refuse. One afternoon, while he was walking in the prison yard, a command dreaded by all inmates blared over the loudspeaker.... "Michael Franzese, report to the Warden's office." This order is rarely followed by good news. His heart sank when he entered the office and was met by two FBI agents dispatched from headquarters in Washington DC., which would normally mean even worse news. Not on this day. The agents were there to recruit Michael to participate in a program designed to educate professional athletes about the dangers of gambling. Michael knew the world of gambling and sports - he knew it from first hand knowledge from the side of the Mafia. That meeting with the FBI was the beginning of something very new for Michael. He recorded a video taped message that would be presented to professional and collegiate athletes, warning them about the danger of gambling, and the impact it can ultimately have on their career. Since that time, Michael has been a featured guest at the NBA and MLB rookie camps, featured on ESPN, Fox Sports, and HBO Real Sports. He was recently a guest on the Jim Rome show (radio and TV), as well as NPR's "All Things Considered," Armed forces Radio, CNN and Fox News. Michael is frequently a guest lecturer at several NCAA colleges and he addressed a gathering of NCAA college representatives for the "Champs Life Skills Program" in February 2003. He followed that with an address at the American Football Coaches Association conference in Orlando. Over the last few years, Michael has taken his message about gambling across the country to many colleges, including: Marshall University University of North Carolina University of Nebraska University of Wisconsin (Madison) University of Tennessee Northwestern University University of Illinois (Chicago) University of Miami University of Georgia University of Indiana University of Alabama NC State Virginia Tech Penn State University of Massachusetts University of Connecticut University of Texas University of Michigan Michigan State Kansas State Virginia Tech University of Southern California Bradley Creighton Drake Evansville Illinois State Indiana State Northern Iowa Southern Illinois Southern Missouri State Wichita State Lehigh University University of South Florida Baylor University University of Memphis University of Illinois (Champaign) He is scheduled to speak at the U.S. Air Force Academy, University of Hawaii, and is returning to the MLB Rookie Camp, the NBA Rookie Transition Program, and the American Football Coaches Association. He has recently addressed the coaches for the San Diego Chargers and will address the Mississippi Association of Coaches.

WAF joke these enforcement suits are. They wudda been better off hiring some unemployed actor, tag him with an Italian name/association and parade him in front of gullible student athletes. The government has a bright history of being duped by these sub culture characters. They commuted "Lucky" Luciano's sentence to help the USA plan an invasion in WW2. LMAO, Benito's followers will march in line to an American hood. The best one was the recruiting of Chicago's Sam Giancona to assassinate Castro. Sam took the money to the track and was probably executed by the CIA. Better yet, the feds should audition some soon to be homeless loiterers at the Stardust Sportsbook. They need the work.

From Jan 20,2006 Friday, U.S. Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced the settlement terms, which includes that Sporting News voluntarily initiate and complete a three-year public serve advertising campaign on the illegality of commercial Internet and telephonic gambling. Sporting News will spend $1 million for the public service campaign, for a total of $3 million over three years. Sporting News paid $4.2 million of the $7.2 million settlement late Thursday, according to a release. The settlement agreement resolves claims arising from Sporting News' conduct between spring 2000 and December 2003. The company advertised illegal Internet and telephonic gambling enterprises to its U.S. print, Internet and radio media audiences.
