Default Need help from Nascar bettors/Nascar linesmakers-sportsbook supers, etc.

I bet a qualifying matchup involving Jimmy Johnson for the Sunday Daytona qualifying. Johnson won the matchup based on qualifying times.

The sportsbook's rules state "Unofficial Nascar results immediately following the betting event will be used to determine all props and match-ups."

I assume that the UNOFFICIAL results are the results announced at the end of the TV broadcast, and that the OFFICIAL results are the post-inspection results, which resulted in Johnson's qualifying time being stricken from the record. If the OFFICIAL results are used, I now lose the matchup.

Unfortunately, this has never happened to me before. I imagine that had the unofficial results posted right after the race, as it must have been hours till JJ was disqualified.

I didn't make a copy of the unofficial results. I've been Googling for about an hour, but everyone now only has the official results.

I did record on VCR the immediate post-qualifying show on Speed, which posted the qualifying results, and it says in the upper right of the frame "Speed. NASCAR TV" with the Nascar official logo. But that's all I've got.

Can anyone provide me with a copy of the UNOFFICIAL Daytona qualifying results, or lead me to a way to find them?

Perhaps someone who works in a sportsbook has the original AP feed with the UNOFFICIAL results?
Or one of you Nascar fans made a copy after the race?
Or someone knows of a website which posted the UNOFFICIAL results, afterwhich the webmaster went to sleep, and the UNOFFICIAL results are still posted?

This rule is to avoid the scenario of paying one side, then having to change it and pay the other side. This rule says, "once we grade this event, we're not going to change it, no matter who gets DQ'd."

If they had graded it before the DQ announcement, you would've won.

Next time, get on the phone, and tell them, "Grade that NASCAR before they DQ my cheating driver!"

Are you saying that the wording is essentially meaningless, and that if they're late grading the match up then the Official ranking is something I have to live with?
They were very late grading.

Your explanation makes it clear why the book has that rule. But whether they're fast or slow to grade, shouldn't they have to live by the wording?

They can do it either way - Official or Unofficial - as long as they're consistent it's fair. But to word it that way and then go with the later/Official ranking because they were slow to take care of business is not fair.

But I know that it would be less of a headache to win this one if I had a copy of the Unofficial rankings.

The wording of the rule which you quoted is very clear ----"immediately following" is the key. Cars would not have gone through inspection at that point under any circumstances. Book will need to change the language in their rule. You might be screwed if it is an offshore shop ---if it is Nevada they will take care of it rather than have it go to Gaming.

Johnson, Terry Labonte disqualified after failing inspection
By JENNA FRYER, AP Motorsports Writer
Feb. 12, 2006

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Jimmie Johnson and Terry Labonte had their Daytona 500 qualifying runs thrown out Sunday after their cars failed inspection.

NASCAR officials said someone illegally altered the rear window on Johnson's Chevrolet after it passed through pre-qualifying inspection. The infraction was discovered when the car was presented after its qualifying run for a second inspection.

Labonte's car was found to have illegal modifications to the carburetor. The two-time NASCAR champion is driving in the inaugural race for Hall of Fame Racing, the team owned by former NFL quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach.

"These were serious infractions," NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said. "I don't think we would disallow the times if this was not serious."

The penalties are not that serious _ for now.

Both drivers will have to start from the rear of the field during Thursday's qualifying races. The outcome of those races determines the starting lineup for Sunday's season-opening Daytona 500.

But Hunter left open the possibility of further penalties, including confiscation of the cars, suspension of the crew chiefs, monetary fines and maybe even a points deduction.

NASCAR will undoubtedly take a long look at crew chief Chad Knaus, who has been penalized repeatedly for rules infractions on Johnson's team. He was suspended for four races last season when Johnson's car failed a post-race inspection in Las Vegas, but an appeals committee overturned the punishment.

Knaus also has been fined on numerous occasions, and was the first crew chief to lose points when NASCAR began upping its punishments.

Hunter insisted NASCAR would look at this latest infraction individually and not judge Knaus as a repeat offender. Knaus did not immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press for comment.

"Every situation is different, but this is the first event of a new season and I think we want to start the season with a very thorough inspection and I think we did that today," Hunter said. "As far as any prior (infractions), this one is judged by what happened in today's qualifying procedure. We've dealt with those and issued penalties."

Johnson had originally qualified fifth, Labonte was 28th. Those times meant little in this one event of the season, because only the top two Daytona 500 starting spots were locked up in Sunday's session. The rest of the results were used to determine the starting lineup for the qualifying races.

Both drivers will start those races in the back.
