Default Smarty's a papa

Time will tell if Smarty Jones was the real thing or a creation of modern science-

breeding shed doesn't lie.

LET THE BIDDING BEGIN:

The first reported foal by 2004 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Smarty Jones was born early Tuesday morning at Arthur Hancock's Stone Farm.
The foal, a filly out of the winning Danzig mare Shoppingwithbetty, was born shortly after midnight at the Paris, Kentucky farm. The mare is owned by Hancock and Tom Tatham of Oak Cliff Stables, the same team that bred and raised 1989 Horse of the Year Sunday Silence.

"We're very excited about the foal," Hancock said. "A lot of work goes into bringing a foal into the world, and it's nice to have a healthy filly."

Smarty Jones narrowly missed winning the Triple Crown as he finished second by one length to Birdstone in the Belmont Stakes (G1). A five-year-old son of Elusive Quality, Smarty Jones covered 111 mares in his initial book at Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky, where he stands for $100,000.

Nine-year-old Shoppingwithbetty, who is out of the Grade 1-winning Affirmed mare Buy the Firm, has produced two other foals in maidens Shtokman, by Giant's Causeway; and Sir Galatyn, by Rahy. Shoppingwithbetty is a half sister to Grade 3 winner Storm Broker and stakes winner Royal Arrow.

Gotta like the local angle, horse's grandma was a Del Park Handicap winner and one of my fav horses of all time-Buy The Firm.

This should be interesting TA, I say horses from this era like this one will clearly be a disappointment at the breeding shed. The 100K price will be seen as a major rip off IMO down the road. Though it probably will not be as bad as any horse trained by Jeff Mullins or Scott Lake.

I agree 100% with your statement. I was a big SJ fan but I don't think he is worth 100K per live foal as a freshman sire.
