Default Was at the World Series of Poker a few hours ago.

Thursday was the first event - a casino employee/dealer tournament.

Friday was the first "real" event - $2,000 no limit holdem.
This event had a record field - around 820-845 people - almost twice as many as last year.

One surprise - most tournaments are not allowing players to wear headsets. Yet they're wearing them at the World Series. 3 people at one table including Negreanu.

There are 2 reasons many rooms/tournaments forbid this -
a) Slowing up the game.
b) Opportunity for cheating (receiving calls on the headset).

As far as b - there are teensy earphones a cheater could wear, and not be obvious.
At the same time, with a first prize in Friday's tournament of about 400k, and spectators standing a few feet behind or above (in the bleachers) the players, it was surprising to me to see players wearing headsets.

Other tournaments have banned players from speaking on cell phones, and hopefully this one has also at least instituted this rule.

One thing I dislike in their advertising - most tournaments will advertise, for example -
"$500 No Limit Hold Em Tournament (plus $50 entry fee)".

The WSOP's flyer doesn't break this down. For example, the Friday tournament is described simply as -
"No-Limit Hold'em
$2,000 Buy-in"

What is not described anywhere on a 4 page 8 1/2" x 11" glossy brochure is that only 92% of the $2,000 goes into the players' pool.
8% is taken out - 3% for dealers and 5% for the house.
This is deceptive advertising.

Probably Sunday - Limit Hold'em. Not positive.

If I do - I'll be the one wearing the "I (Smiley Face) JJ Gold" t shirt.
