This is total Bs and Unfair. You better get a DNA test if you have any doubts, and even then you might still have to pay.

The child's welfare is more important that the father's problems.

This guy assumed the role of father, he legally can't abandon the kid.

He's not the first guy to catch this bad break. Sure, it's crummy. But what law would you propose in its place? You can't let the kid starve. You can't tell him, "The man you've called Daddy your whole life is dumping you."

I first read about these cases a few years ago. I was outraged, as well. But when you think about it, there's really no alternative.

The law I would propose in its place would be to make the Mother get a job and financially support the child, and make her name the real father and then make him pay support.

How come it doesnt work the other way ? There are many men who cheat on their wives and have a child with another woman. How often are those men then allowed to sue their ex wife and make her pay child support on a kid that isn't even hers ? never.

He didnt voluntarily assume support of the child. He was lied to, he thought the child was his. Then after he started to question it he paid because he could have been arrested and sent to prison if he refused. That isn't voluntary.
