LOCAL GAMING COMPANY HELPS NAVARRA POLICE

A young man was arrested for fraud in Pamplona this week after an unnamed Gibraltar-registered Internet gambling company provided Spanish police with information that helped track him down.


The 24-year old man, identified only as I.C.M., obtained other people’s bank card details to bet on websites hosted by a gambling company on the Rock.

Spanish police were alerted to the crime after four of the cardholders complained about unauthorised payments from their accounts.

The man had used a total of 4,829 Euros of their money to place online bets.
Police checked bank records and found the cards had all been used in the same online casino, often on the same dates.

Investigating officers in the Unidad de Delitos Económicos in the Jefatura de Navarra contacted the Gibraltar company directly to request information.
“The first contact was by telephone and several emails were subsequently sent,” one of the officers told the Chronicle yesterday.

He added that the company, which he declined to name, was fully cooperative with the requests from Spain.
Officers followed the cyber trail and eventually tracked the man down.
He had set up a separate current account in his own name so as to bank any winnings from his online bets.
