Leafs Cut Ticket Prices

Lowest In Three Years, Also Frozen For 2006-07 Regular Season

(July 29, 2005) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Friday that they have rolled back regular season ticket prices to their lowest levels since 2002, and that season seat holders will enjoy the new lower pricing through the 2006-07 season.

More than 43% of the seats at Air Canada Centre will now be priced at $68 or less, and 14% will be capped at $35 for regular season home dates. Tickets will be scaled from $35 to $173.

"We're pleased to be able to lower the cost of our season seats, and to be able to provide our fans with the knowledge that these new prices will hold the line through the 2006-07 season," said Tom Anselmi, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. "Under the new collective bargaining agreement we have lower player costs, however well be incurring significant expenses that are new to us, totaling tens of millions of dollars. That said, we feel we can put in place a five percent across the board ticket price decrease while remaining revenue-neutral in the short term.

"The Leafs will be executing a 'Welcome Back' plan to thank our fans for their patience and support during the past year," Anselmi added. "We will be announcing a number of fan-friendly initiatives in the arena and throughout the community that will engage our fans more than ever with the Leafs. It's been a difficult year for all of us associated with hockey, but we join with our fans in enthusiastically looking ahead to getting back on the ice in September."

The 2005-06 regular season schedule was announced Wednesday. Single game ticket information for the Leafs is expected to be announced in mid-September.

Raise the prices to market price. Artificially low prices serve to create a market whereby scalpers can earn the difference and people cannot obtain access to tickets in the form of seasons tickets.
