Computer ? - Can someone recommend computer "vault" software?

Was told by my computer's help line that software exists that "locks" files on one's computer, so that a password is needed to get into the "vault".

I.e., I don't want to start using a password to access my computer - only want a secure area with password for certain files.
I plan to put my personal/financial info in there, so it can't be hacked, or at least to make it very difficult to hack it.

Was told the same software can also encrypt info.

Can anyone recommend a specific software program?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Went to the PGP website and hate it. Very difficult to find any info explained in a user friendly manner and to find out the price.
Not saying you're incorrect in recommending it, but can't get much info from their site.

Anyone else?

I should add I'm seeking it for my laptop only for my personal use. Not for a business/network/multiple computers.
