TIGER WOODS BRITISH OPEN WIN WILL COST BOOKIES Tiger Woods has drifted to 2/5 from 1/8 first thing Saturday morning to win The Open, giving the bookmaking industry hope that they can avoid the £10 million payout they would have to make if the world's number one triumphed. There has also been a big patriotic punt on Colin Montgomerie, with his odds being cut to 8/1 from 33/1. If Monty triumphs, Ladbrokes alone will pay out over £250,000. Ladbrokes golf trader Brad Barry said: "Tiger's final round will have £10 million riding on it, it's going to be a rollercoaster of a day and it could be one of the most expensive in our history. Saturday was a good day for us but we're certainly not out of the woods yet." "Punters have been piling in to back Colin Montgomerie, we'd lose £250,000 if he won but we're cheering him on as we want anyone but Tiger." Earlier in the week a punter had £100,000 at 3/1 on Woods to win The Open with Ladbrokes. Article created on 16/07/2005 19:48

What's that about $20M they'll be shelling out for TW's win. OUCH!!! Sounds like some bookies will be eating beans and rice for a while. No cocaine, champagne and hookers this week!

o-a-d, You need to get an acct at Pinnacle. He was +325 before the tourney and he was at about -295 last night at one point there. Those were about the best I saw outside those markets like betfair that won't allow 'mericans.

-295 overnight? If I remember, Pinnacle was -200 Tiger win/+186 Tiger lose, or thereabouts... Matchbook bounced around a little more, but was around -190 Tiger win/+185 not long after the end of R3. Betfair started out in line with the US market, but the price on Tiger dropped heavily overnight. And call me cynical, but there's no way the UK bookies were on the hook for a huge payout on Tiger at pre-tournament prices. They might have written a bunch of liability at a bad price after R1, but that's a different story.

Tiger was -190 and -195 to win after three rounds? Given that he was 9/9 in majors when tied for or holding the lead after three (now 10/10) how could you have turned that down? Those sound like bad lines.
