| I don't think so - JJ. The beauty of Hold em, as opposed to more complex poker games like Omaha, is that ANY simpleton can understand the concept. Audiences operating on the instant gratification principle can easily understand 2 cards down, as opposed to 3, as opposed to the complex dynamics of any High-Lo game. That's why audiences don't give a shit about whether there are pros aren't going to win it. They think that THEY are the pros and that this is an easily mastered game. But, for a stake and some time, THEY'd be the WSOP Winner ! Perfect game, in a 24-7 "reality show" time, for both America and the world...

Hand 149 - Aaron Kanter has the button in seat 6, Black raises to $600,000, Dannenmann reraises to $2,000,000, and Black moves all in. Dannenmann immediately calls. Black shows pocket tens (10h-10d), while Dannenmann has As-Kd. It's another race situation. The flop comes 8h-3s-2c, and Black is still in the lead with his pair of tens. Dannenmann needs a king, an ace, or a runner-runner straight to stay alive. The turn card is the Kc, and Dannenmann takes the lead with a pair of kings. Now Black needs to catch a ten on the river (2 outs) to stay alive. The river card is the 9c, teasing the crowd by looking similar to the black ten that Black needed to survive. Andrew Black is eliminated in fifth place, earning $1,750,000, and he receives a standing ovation from the entire crowd.

Date / Time: 2005-07-16 04:50:00 Title: Aaron Kanter Eliminated in 4th Place ($2,000,000) Log: Hand 211 - Steve Dannenmann has the button in seat 8, Kanter moves all in for $3,670,000, and Tex Barch calls when the action gets back around to him. Kanter shows Ad-9s, while Barch has pocket jacks (Js-Jh). The flop comes Kh-9h-7h, and Barch has a solid lead with his pair of jacks and a flush draw. Kanter makes a pair of nines, so he can catch a nine or an ace (but not a heart) to make a better hand. The turn card is the 8s, and Kanter is down to four outs with the last card to come. The river card is the Jc, and Tex Barch makes a set on the river to eliminate Aaron Kanter in fourth place, earning $2,000,000.

Title: Tex Barch Eliminated in 3rd Place ($2,500,000) Log: Hand 226 - Steve Dannenmann has the button in seat 8, he raises to $750,000, Hachem calls, and Barch moves all in for $5,650,000, pushing his chips out in front of him. The action is back to Dannenmann, who says, "Call," and then Hachem tells the dealer to wait, before he calls as well. (Neither of the big stacks raised, so all three players are in for $5,650,000 each.) The players must be as tired as the spectators (and the media), unless they all woke up to great hands. There is still a side pot at stake, so the hole cards won't be revealed yet. The flop comes 10c-3d-2d, and both players check the side pot. The turn card is the Qh, and they check the side pot again. The river card is the 9c, and they check again. Time to see what they have! Hachem shows pocket jacks, Dannenmann has pocket sevens, and I heard that Barch had A-6. (I couldn't see the cards on the monitor.) Hachem wins a pot worth over $16,000,000, and Tex Barch is eliminated in third place, earning $2,500,000.

Hand 232 - Steve Dannenmann has the button, he raises to $700,000, and Hachem calls. The flop comes 6h-5d-4d, Hachem checks, Dannenmann bets $700,000, Hachem raises to $1,700,000, and Dannenmann calls. The turn card is the As, Hachem bets $2,000,000, and Dannenmann slowly raises to $5,000,000, Hachem reraises all in, and Dannenmann immediately calls. Hachem shows 7c-3s (seven-high straight), while Dannenman has Ad-3c (top pair). Dannenmann needs to catch a seven on the river to chop the pot with equal straights. The entire crowd is on their feet as the river card comes. There are only three cards that can keep Hachem from becoming champion. The river card is the 4c! Joseph Hachem has just become the 2005 World Series of Poker champion!
