Default Neteller Question

I'm a little leery about making deposits on site for sportsbook and poker rooms. Am I better off jumping through hoops to find out their merchant number and switching over to make transactions directly from the neteller site? I feel like I am giving books to much info when I type in my nt info, especially my secure id. Am I being too paranoid?

I haven't heard of anyone being screwed by using the direct links that require secureID, so you probably are being a bit overly concerned.

That said, there is always going to be a FIRST and who wants to be that!

Some places won't allow you to initiate it from the Neteller side or require you to jump thru hoops to get it processed if u do. I'll take the convenience of < minute processing and risk it for now!! I just wish that w/ds were as fast as deposits!

I would think it would be easier for a sportsbook employee to mess with the money in your sportsbook account.

Haven't heard a single case of that at a reputable book.

Pancho, that's not exactly what I was afraid of, but it's a good point.

The books already have my name, addy, phone, email, mothers maiden name, etc., and now if they wanted to they can access my account on neteller to see what my balance is? I no longer have direct deposit, but if I did, wouldn't that also give them access to my banking info? Could someone even change the email addy associated to my account?

Again, I know I am being excessive, but I've never seen this issue addressed.

I'm sure I'm ok since the only deposits I've made this way (that I can remember) were to poker rooms, and with so many users I sincerely doubt my piddling neteller business would be of interest to anyone... there's just something about giving out my pin when I have been instructed so many times to never NEVER do so.

I never thought about it with the books I use.

I changed my email addy with Neteller recently.
They had to receive an email from the email address they had listed originally, giving the change of email address.
So someone can't change your Neteller email addy, unless there's a way of faking the origination of an email address (i.e., your email address is Minnow@hotmail.com, and there is a way that someone other than yourself can send Neteller an email and make it appear to have come from Minnow@hotmail.com. I wouldn't think this is possible, altho those hackers be very clever).

That said - I'm paranoid about the same thing you are. It seems very insecure to me as well. I called Neteller about it and spoke to a few cs people about it, but all they could tell me of course was the "We've never had a problem - it's completely secure" story. (Don't really know what else they could have said, but I was seeking any kind of reassurance at the time I guess).
So I understand and agree with your concerns.

Pancho Sanza - "I would think it would be easier for a sportsbook employee to mess with the money in your sportsbook account."

I'm sure you're right. But I also feel sure that the employee will ultimately be caught and it will be cleared up.

I once had a bank employee embezzle money from my bank account. When caught, she told the police that I told her she could take out the money.
I said to the detective, "But anyone who embezzles can offer that for an excuse".
"Of course", he replied. "Any bank employee has the opportunity to embezzle. But they will be caught, and that prevents most of them from doing it".

In the case that Minnow worries about, it may not be evident after the fact that the money was stolen - it may appear that she withdrew it herself.
Whereas if a sportsbook employee messes with the money in one's account, I would think it will be traceable back to that employee ultimately.
