Default Justice Department voices concerns on Internet gambling ads

Justice Department voices concerns on Internet gambling ads

April 07, 2004 12:44 PM EST

WASHINGTON-The Justice Department said Tuesday it sent letters recently to various media trade groups outlining concerns about advertising Internet gambling, an action that could chill an application that is trying to take hold in the mobile-phone industry.

Congress is struggling to fashion legislation to ban illegal Internet gambling, but lawmakers cannot agree on how to do it.

In congressional testimony last year, the Justice Department said it wants illegal Internet gambling outlawed on all communications platforms.
