Default Who will be in next year's Super Bowl?

NE did not make the playoffs last year and the O/U in wins was only 8.5
CAR was not even on the radar screen, and was pretty much universally picked to finish last in their division. I was able to get them at 12-1 to win the NFC South, so that probably equats to 100-1 or higher to win the Super Bowl (which I did not bet).

So which teams under the radar will have a shot next year?

Here are some thoughts :

SF - they were the best of the non-playoff teams. They had the ability to beat PHI in PHI (well, I guess that wasn't such a great feat afterall)...Rattay or Garcia, I don't really see a difference in those two. They'll get rid of the cancer Owens, and they have a 2nd year coach who now knows his personnel alot better. Looking at their points scored and given up, it sure looks like a quality football team. Since they finished 3rd in their division, they'll get to play a slightly worse caliber team than STL and SEA.

PIT - they went 4-4 in their last 8 games, so don't look at their total year record. They were an average team. Does that mean they can improve to a playoff quality team? With BAL, CIN and CLE in that division, I think anyone can win it. BAL and CIN will be the faves since they were in the running this year, so that leaves CLE and PIT at the better prices, and the better choice is PIT

CHI - yea, I know, they suck, but they weren't really that bad at the end of the year. SHould get some decent draft picks, Grossman looks like the real deal, and new coaches are definitely a huge plus. Can Lovie Smith do the same thing that Marvin Lewis did? I think they have a chance. MIN and GB don't scare anyone.

why Buffalo? Bledsoe sure looks like he is done...career over. They should have a decent running game but does anyone really believe that Mularkey can get into the playoffs with MIA, NE in their division? He had a great year last year, but he and Kordell got chewed up by Belicheck a couple years ago and the whole league caught up to him and Maddox this year. Looks like an 8-8 at best.

big action, I think those teams have decent chances, the only problem is that the odds won't be very nice on them since they were playoff teams this year. I'm looking for next year's equivalent of this year's Panthers, or 2001's Ravens or 2000's Rams. Which paid something like 40-1 and 200-1 respectively.

Atlanta will offer some value. Vick is back. They are also making a committment in the front office. This team should make the playoffs again. And with Vick running your team, anything can happen.

Gunther Cunningham sounds very familiar. Was he the KC Head Coach after Schottenheimer left?

Going with a long shot here that has a very realistic chance: Jacksonville Jaguars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solid head Coach building a good foundation

Young QB with a great arm and his Rookie season out of the way

Fred Taylor is a beast when healthy

Young and talneted Defense

Only drawback is the Division they play in, 4 games againsts the Colts and Titans on the Schedule

Gunther was hired after Schottenheimer and was way over his head. Its unbelievable but he is going to come back as defensive coordinator and get a lot of money. Vermeil and Peterson have two years left on their contract and this is it-the final run to the super bowl.

They need to improve the talent on defense and they will be on their way.

Tough to believe Carolina in its eighth year is in the Super Bowl and the Chiefs haven't been there for 30 years. Unbelievable.

I agreed with Brett. Falcons will be right up there and will be a threat if Vick stays healthy.

philly... they aren't going 0-4.

(although i said they weren't going 0-3 this year)
(although i said they weren't going 0-2 year before that - i was @ the tampa game (and again when they opened up @ the stink)... ouch)
(and christ.. i can't remember who they lost to before that, but i guarantee you that i thought they would have won)
