Default NICE EFFORT CAL

They bitch about being left out of a BCS game and they were dominated by T Tech. Where was this wonderful defense that everyone kept talking about. I was playing poker and every time I looked up the Red Raiders were on there 20. I thought that they were going to pull together and show how a good a team they were? I have always thought that Texas was the better team and I think they will prove it when they stomp Michigan on Saturday.

It was a joke.

Not a good sign for USC when a middle of the road Big 12 team can dominate an elite Pac 10 team.

There are reasons to throw the Cal game out though...They were missing a couple key offensive players, but more importantly they might not have been motivated. Whatever the reason, it was ugly to see. Clearly not the team that almost beat USC at USC. Pac 10 starting to scare me....UCLA laid an egg against Wyoming, Oregon St did beat a poor N.D., and then Cal's debacle tonight. I thought I was sitting pretty good with tons of USC -2.5...Now I see -2.5 -101 out there

Brett

have the utmost respect for your opinion..more so than anyone here but bro if you think Texas stomps Michigan I suggest donating the money to the Red Cross for the relief of those people rather than throw it away bro on that

I can't believe some of these thoughts. Our job is to weigh the motivational situation.

Texas has done the same thing in the Holiday Bowl before, expect to go somewhere good and tank- I think they had to rally to beat a bad Washington team several years ago in that game.

Kansas State when it go snubbed by the BCS and sent to the Alamo- lost outright to Purdue as double digit favorite.

These teams read their press clippings and get hosed and dread going to practices and the game. Not much of a reward for Cal to go to San Diego. Woopee!!!

to me, if seems as if the teams that bitch the most about being left out of the real bowls, or should be ranked higher, lose the games that they play. perhaps if they actually won the game, they could bitch afterwards?

one of the other ones that i can think of is the classic wvu bowl games... bitching about how they should be ranked higher in previous years only to get steamrolled in the bowl game. florida/wvu was one of the ones i can think of.

perhaps if california wouldn't have been thinking about where they "should have" been and took care of business, they may have won the game.

they should be quite embarrased by the way they bitched and moaned only to lose the game. wasn't it a cal player that said, "i feel sorry for texas tech - we are going to take out our frustrations on them." yeah right....

Good post, gc pres. Who the frick is Cal? They act like they have been an elite program for years and they got snubbed. They had a nice season, almost beat USC and then cry like heck when Texas jumped them. Go play the game!!! Prove that you belonged. Blow out the #4 team in Big 12 and try to finish 2nd or 3rd in the country. As 18 to 22 year old kids, you should treat every game like it is a big game. It cracks me up, actually. I enjoyed that game and I had the under. I thought they might have at least brought half of their defense.

BP, I respect your opinion highly as well, but Texas manhandles UM. Too much speed.

I think alot of it comes down to who they are playing as well. Its not like Texas Tech is a traditional power. If Cal played a big name team with a big tradition they may have got excited.

College football is tough on these up and coming teams, they get hosed for a multitude of reasons

The thing that jumped out at me while watching the Cal game was the disparity in $$ value of the two respective coaching staffs. The Cal coach just signed a $10M/5yr contract and probably makes 4X or 5X what the Texas Tech coach does yet there was no denying that the Tech coach absolutely destroyed the Cal coach yesterday. The Cal team wasn't even close to being prepared for what they had to face defensively. Now I'm not saying the Cal coach is overrated or overpaid as he's done a nice job in getting Cal back to prominence (before yesterday). I'm just saying he got destroyed by a guy that makes considerably less $$ and has the burden of working with less talented athletes. That's always one of the hidden factors that makes capping bowl games so tough.

I admit to having cal but don't teams in cals spot usually always give a crap effort. I've seen it year after year . Team X moans about not geting to playin a major bowl game and sometimes they have a good argument. Then they get crushed in the game that they said they were to good to be in.

If you just guess and bet the moves blindly you wouldn't understand this. No way in heck does anybody with a brain bet on a team that doesn't want to be in a lesser bowl game. Year after year these teams that cry about where they are playing don't show up. Even the TV guys were talking about how TT was all excited about the bowl game they were going to. How do you bet on Cal?

The PAC 10 suxs anyway. And USC will get destroyed by a very good OU team that will pound the sissys from the west coast. Got to be nuts to bet an overated sissy PAC 10 team. USC would lose to any of the top 10 teams in the country. No doubt!

If you played football at this level you would also understand that you have to be into it 100% or you will get your butt kicked. Figure it out or keep losing on these meaningless games.

hindsight is 20-20 but with cal missing 4 receivers, not a good spot to lay over 10 pts. I wanted to play tex tech but was afraid they would get down quickly and not able to catch up with Cal playing against the pass. The spot I missed was playing the over, but once again with the wide receivers out for Cal was concerned they would not be able to score enough.. ...................an opinion is only as strong as the money behind it which I had none of on this game however.

Some good posts in this thread.

I however do not understand how the outcome of Cal/T.Tech has anything to do with the USC/Oklahoma game.

Texas and Oklahoma both beat Texas Tech but they have seen that offense for the past 4 years, hell Oklahoma had Leach as a coach once. I think that is a big thing, Cal has never seen an offense like that.

Sporto,

Totally different animals. In the NFL scenario, I'm talking about teams that have quit on their coach...NY Giants or Cle. come to mind. When they play the average Sun afternooin game I don't see any reason for them to all of the sudden start to try and play hard, but when they are on Sun/Mon Night, and they know everybody is watching, I give that some consideration.

In Cal's case, up until the last week of the year they thought they were a lock to be in a BCS game and actually felt they had an outside shot to be in the Nat Championship Game with a couple upsets. Well, they ended up getting jumped by Texas and then are forced to play a bowl game on the 29th of December.

Buzz, Cal/TT result surely doesn't mean OKLA will win, but you have to consider it. What better way to gauge to teams from different conf then when other teams from the same conf play.
