Unless Morales wins the 2nd half of the fight convincingly. A draw would be an atrocity. Boxing would become no more than another version of the WWF.

Don't insult the WWF/E. At least they're open about what they are.

Postfight press conference report by Chris Cozzone

After their classic twelve round war, capping their historic trilogy, both, victor Marco Antonio Barrera and dethroned 130-pound king, Eric "El Terrible" Morales, had enough energy left for a few more jabs at the postfight press conference held at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas.

So did their promoters.

A not-so-happy Top Rank boss Bob Arum opened up the conference by criticizing one of the judges whose score tilted the outcome in favor of Barrera.

"There has to be some consistency with these judges," Arum said. "They have to be instructed." Arum’s problem was with Judge Larry O’Connell, who had it 115-114 for Barrera, as did Judge Jerry Roth (115-113) while Judge Paul Smith scored it even at 114.

****The debate, however was O’Connell’s scoring of Round 11: While Roth and Smith had it 10-9 for Morales, O’Connell had the round a contestable 10-10 — if he’d scored it the same as the other two, his final score would’ve been 114-114, making the outcome a majority draw.***

"Under the Nevada policy, you shouldn’t score rounds even," said Arum. "O’Connell’s score may be grounds for Morales’ people to file a protest."

Many present felt that while Arum might have had a point about 10-10 scoring in a round most saw as Morales,’, the underlying motive might’ve been to strike back at Oscar De La Hoya, who had been promoted by Top Rank.
