Arrow 2018 15th Annual Major Wager CFB Bowl Contest Discussion Thread.

Hello Players.

Welcome to the 15th Annual Major Wager Bowl Contest. If you played in this before or are trying it for the first time, the rules are simple and easy to follow.

Entry Fee - $500 P.M. Clevfan for details.

Prize Distribution
1st 50%
2nd 30%
3rd 20%

Deadlines

Entry Fee Deadline - December 14, 2018 @ 11:59 pm EST.

Picks Deadline - December 14, 2018 @ 11:59 pm EST.

First games:

Saturday, December 15

Alcorn State vs North Carolina A&T Celebration Bowl Mercedes-Benz Stadium Atlanta, GA Sat 12/15 12:00PM

New Mexico Bowl (2 p.m., ESPN)

Cure Bowl (2:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network)

Las Vegas Bowl (3:30 p.m., ABC)

Camellia Bowl (5:30 p.m., ESPN)

New Orleans Bowl (9 p.m., ESPN)

Goon will decide when lines go up. Will be posted as soon as available, we are aiming for Monday 10th of Dec. Once lines are posted they will not change.

Picks - each player picks 15 games. Five 3*'s, Five 2*'s and 5, 1*'s. Teams may be used only once, you cannot pick both sides of a single game.

Games that have a solid number (no half point), and land on the number, will be graded as a win of half of your * bet. Example: Michigan is listed -7 over Florida State and they win by exactly 7 - a 2* play on Michigan or Florida State would both receive 1 point.

Should a game not be completed as originally scheduled within 72 hours of scheduled kickoff (vegas rules, at least 55 minutes must be played), the game will be graded as a push. This applies to venue, teams involved, power outages, acts of god, terrorism, etc.

The person with the most Stars will be the winner. If there is a tie, first tie breaker will be highest record in 3* games, second tie breaker will be highest record in 2* games. If still tied, we will set up a tie breaker on the national championship game, if still tied, all winnings will be split evenly.

If you have any questions or concerns, this is the place to address it. Let us know about your commitment to play so we can get an idea who's in and who's out. Don't forget to let your friends know about this holidays tradition.

All the best to all of you for the holiday season!

I will try and watch everyday because I love this contest. Clevfan of course has ultimate say if anything arises. Nothing ever has though:)

As a suggestion, I think it would be interesting to give everyone ONE alternate. They list their choice as an alternate, and may substitute that alternate for any of their 15 choices.

The caveat is that both the alternate, and the choice they are substituting for, cannot have kicked off yet.

So lets say they have Alabama as an alternate. If they have a game that is going to be canceled (plane/bus crash, hurricane, etc). Instead of risking a push on the canceled game, they can plug in the alternate Alabama.

Or, lets say they realize that 4 of their star players got suspended from Ohio St for academic ineligibility, substance abuse, cash payments, and sexual assault, they can substitute Alabama for OSU, as long as neither game as kicked off yet.

This alternate, could also be used if someone realizes they have no mathematical chance to win, or conversely, for someone who wants to block.

It would add an interesting strategy to the tournament. You could put a restriction that they have to make the change 24 hours before either game kicks off, or something like that.

Why put a 72 hour limit on it? i can see saying it has to be played within 72 hours of the last bowl game, so that we can have closure, but otherwise, I don't see the point in costing someone a chance at their full points.

Let's get 50 entries and we can work that into the rules :)

Nobody has ever asked that before. I am unsure it has ever been an issue in this contest. Don't have an answer. We pretty much copy and paste same rules every year. Didn't want to leave it unanswered but that's all I got.

When we had Netteller and a few books were offering 1-2 k overlays and Russ was chipping in 1000 overlay and all money went to players I think we got up over 50 K a few times. Unsure without looking back.

I pulled it up, from the 3rd annual MW bowl contest, 1st place was $28,450. to team MW.

So the pool must have been in that $56,900 range, or so. Or slightly less with overlays only going to 1st place.
