Default ESPN Poker Question

Upon picking the "Top 10" to play for the 2 million do you think the players had to sign contracts that will allow their likeness to be used and abused by the corp. I wonder if any player turned down the invite? I know the exposure alone is $$ for the players but there must be a downside....other than the pocket cam.

I feel a lot of top players may have declined the invite, exposure is not always wanted or welcomed rather be perceived as a pro down on his luck and clean up, rather than be the top dog that everyone plays their A game against.
If youre at the top many players are gunning for you, plus with the pocket cam you give away some of your tendinces (sp)

Unless you get a large endorsement contract, I see little value being on tv.

Was there an entry fee? Or was it a $2M free roll?

If it was the latter, there isn't a poker player on God's green earth who would hesitate to accept that invitation.

I played in some events earlier this week and they made us sign a TV release as ESPN was there.

Bobby they way I understood it it was a freeroll. I would not doubt that the top 5 or 6 were voted in and the rest were added. I know Raymer won the WSOP but who is going to vote for him? Chip Reese? I have all the respectin the world for him but I don't think half the players in the WSOP would know who he was. Where was Chris Fergasun? He has as much respect in the Tournement circle as anybody.
I think they took the top 6 vote getters and added this years champ, a top recognizable women player, a respected cash game player, and a respected former champ.

Voted? Who got to vote?

How lucky did ESPN get, to have Hellmuth finish on the bubble? They couldn't have scripted that any better. His whining, like it or not, makes for great television. Keeping him there until the end maximized his face time, and busting out on the bubble just shy of $2M maximized his tantrum.

I had read on another board that the participants were voted on to play in the Tournament of Champions. I was just posting that I didn't think that was entirely accurate.

Jayhawk, you watch too much TV. Chip Reese, if you play any poker at all you know he is a poker legend, probably the best cash game player ever.

You must have miss understood my post. I've known about Chip Reese for 20+ years. I was saying I didn't think he could've been voted into the TOC by the players in the WSOP because THEY would not know who he was.
